the way will and jem self-destruct in opposite ways.. how will wrecks his body to mirror his (perceived) wrecked soul, and jem wrecks his soul (i.e. his violin) to mirror his wrecked body.. and how one of them self-destructing triggers the other to spiral as well.. because will sees jem as his goodness, and jem sees will as his capability. and when they attack themselves, they are attacking the thing the other considers to be half of his being. and if will takes away their healthy body, then fine, jem will take away their healthy soul. he'll ruin his violin. he'll give into his desires. and they'll spiral in tandem.

I think it's pretty amazing that in the end, Will Herondale, the boy who loved nothing more than a good story, literally haunts the entire TSC narrative as The Story. He's everyone's favorite story, whether it's Tessa and Jem who love him or Shadowhunter society looking back on their heroes. Will literally loved stories so much he became one.
