“ didn’t think so. vincent usually has his boys dressed in expensive suits. “
which, cathryn always found hilarious since they would ripped them when they shifted. or when they fought. which was a lot. and well, this guy didn’t look the type anyways.
“ and i usually know all the wolves in the city. “
he has no idea who vincent is. he makes a point to disassociate himself from any and all other wolves ----they make it harder to remain in control.
‘ I’M NOT from the city. ‘
( && ); headcanon.
earlier in cal’s life, he spent A LOT of time being angry, and not much else. when the wolf was new to him and he didn’t have nearly as much control as he has today, he had a horrible temper that would flare up at unexpected times. he thought he had a handle on the wolf when he was with his first wife, but he learned, after their deaths, that that wasn’t at all true. that was when he started to attempt learning more and more control and restraint, even when he had to let the wolf out. he still has trouble with control, and if you do manage to get him angry, it’s BAD. but for the most part, he’s very much in control. it’s generally only on the full moon that the wolf takes control, and on the two-three days leading up to the full moon, his temper is more volatile. other than that, he loses control extremely rarely.

“ you don’t belong to any of the local packs do you? “
which would be a good thing, most of the local packs are pissed at her usually. but they don’t hate her at least.
he doesn’t know how she knows that he would belong to a pack at all, but he’s come to a point in his life where he’s stopped being surprised when it happens.
‘ NO. I don’t. ‘

THE HAIR ON the back of her neck stands on end as she senses him following her. he can’t just leave her alone. annoying. very, very annoying. keeping a tight grip on her bag, she casts him only the briefest of glances before looking away.
“ what do you want? ”
he comes from a good place. and he understands the things that come with being driven towards survival. he also knows that that kind of lifestyle leads you to do things you might not, otherwise.
‘ ARE you hungry? ‘

SHE HATES THE way he stares, the way he stinks, the way he unsettles her. wolf. that’s all she can think of when she sees him. wolf wolf wolf. she never went out of her way to avoid them in alaska. they mostly avoided her, a mutual relationship that sometimes helped as well as hurt her. hoisting up her backpack, she just starts waking.
he sighs, a long, tired breath that passes through his nose. a short moment passes with his eyes on her, and then he follows. his strides aren’t rapid, but his legs are long, and he moves fast. he’s caught up with her quickly.
‘ HUNGRY, hm? ‘

✖┋OPEN
SHE DEFINITELY DIDN’T just steal about fifty dollars worth of stuff from this grocery store. and you definitely aren’t going to tell on her.
no, he’s not. but he WILL stare her down, his face plastered with a mask of curiosity, but not with a hint of disapproval. he’s been there.
THE ROPES HAVE BEEN UNBOUND.
moonhunted:
SHE IMMEDIATELY WANTS to go on the defensive. he must think she’s stupid. it’s obvious that he’s something lupine. not like her, no, she’s different. he’s different in the sort of way that involves claws and teeth and hair. she’s just…a monster in the body of a woman. he’s a wolf in the body of a man. he has to be. no other explanation.
‘ …you smell. ’
a low, rumble of a laugh pushes up from his stomach, and as it leaves his lips, they turn up at the corners. he does smell much different than any human would, even if they ROLLED AROUND with a pack of wolves. it’s just that he’s normally the only one to notice the difference in scent. she’s different, too.
‘ HOW did you pick that up? ‘
moonhunted:
YES, SO IS she. she’s listening for the moment the beast inside him snaps. maybe it won’t right here, right now, but she has no doubt–not now–that he’s harboring something. she is too. she’s a survivor, a hawk, a wolf, a deer. a woman. a weapon. and she refuses to be cowed.
‘ wolf. ’
oh, he wouldn’t DREAM of trying to tame someone like her. he understands what it is to be wild, and as much as he tries to suppress his own ferality, there’s an undeniable beauty about it. in others, at least. his own, he can’t see as much more than dangerous.
‘ WHY? ‘
the question isn’t threatening. he simply wants to understand HOW she came to this conclusion.
okay??? marie avgeropololologs??? needs to not???

EVERY SYNAPSE IS firing off in her head, churning with worst case scenarios urged by instinct. maybe she should run. he’s much bigger than she is and he already smells wrong. everything she knows about creatures like him wants her to get out of here before it’s too late…but something keeps her rooted to the ground. human curiosity.
‘ … ’
the simple fact that she does not answer him makes him think that she already knows the answer to her own question. or, she must at least be on the right track. people who know things like that often don’t like to say those things out loud. the wolf in him is squirming in his gut, clawing at the insides of his cheeks. it wants to growl. to bare its teeth and show her that, YES, i am a beast. RUN. instead, cal swallows against its snarl and he speaks calmly. as always.
‘ I’M listening. ‘
