What I Would Do Differently

Once a girl danced with me all night. We talked and kissed. I’d only just met her that day, she was a friend of a friend who came along for our night out. She was nice. But I let my ego get the better of me. She hinted at wanting more and I allowed issues she had told me about her life to affect my judgement. We could have spent the night together, or more, but I said no. I didn’t want to get involved. I see the immaturity and lack of generosity in that now. And the ego. It might not have gone further, she might not have wanted me after all. But the idea that she could seemed too much. So, if I were to do things differently in that situation now, I’d get over myself really.

I would have understood that there are some things you can’t make happen.

By all means, some things you can, you set a goal and take steps to achieve it. But there are some things in life, mostly related to people, where you can’t. There’s a feel and a flow to it, and you can dig your heels in all you like, it won’t change. But acceptance is hard and can take a long time. And maybe there is an argument to be had for never giving up, at least privately (and that’s what I mean about it being difficult...)
