Just a heads up for my blogs: The next few months are going to be really, really busy for me. I’m going to be doing crew for one show, stage managing another, training to be on cast at the local renaissance faire, and juggling schoolwork throughout. While these are all things that I want to do and am extremely excited about, I have also never really been this busy before in my life. I’ll still post and reply when I can, but my activity is probably going to be pretty sporadic in the coming months.

Furthermore, on this particular blog (secondwindsong), I’m going to go ahead and put up a semi-hiatus. I know the blog is pretty new, but Deucemuse has sort of wandered off on me for the moment. I’m sure she’ll come back eventually, but for now I’m just having a really hard time writing her. I’m really, really sorry, especially if I owe you replies. I’ll still log on every now and then to post OOCly, but you’re going to see a drop in activity from me.

The Wheel of Fortune: What are your character’s proudest successes? !!

Looking back, Deuce is proud of a lot of things. The first song she played successfully, for example. Or the first time she cast a spell. The first time she patched someone up, and they told her that they felt great.

Her proudest moment, though, came at the very end. Cid was dead. They had won. And Deuce looked around, and realized that they were all going to die. And a part of her was heartbroken, because they were all children, and there was so much they hadn’t done.

But she decided that, if she had to die at that moment, this was how she wanted it to happen. She was proud to have fought alongside her family, and as bittersweet as it was, she was proud to die beside them.

Wee bit of the novel that is actually not okay at all. Caetuna’s doing summoner things when suddenly backstory.

In triggering this explosion, Caetuna had taken a step toward her end. But she didn’t worry about it and continued without respite in manipulating the Eidolons. Their roars mingled in the memories of her long existence. Five hundred years before, the four great powers of Orience were stuck in a terrible world war. Caetuna, who was a young mage and gifted with a keen intelligence, became a l’Cie, chosen by the Vermilion Bird Crystal. Her mission was as follows: “When a true danger threatens the Crystal, you must stop it at the risk of your life.” But shortly after, the interminable war which had brought conflict to the four great powers ran out of breath, and a truce was signed. Caetuna hadn’t needed to fulfill her Focus. Since then, the only order that she had been given, was to wait until the day that she would be useful. The l’Cie thus waited for this moment in the catacombs of the peristylium. Tens of years passed. Her friends, the man who she had loved, everyone had succumbed to the war or to old age. Without fail, the Crystal took the memory of the dead without pity. Caetuna didn’t even have the consolation of the ability to take refuge with her memories. She had all the same continued to wait. She hoped to one day be free of her mission, and she sometimes wondered if her wish would ever be realized. With the time, the resignation overcame her, and at the moment that she lost all notion of time, not even one ounce of humanity remained in her heart. Days, years passed. Finally, the long-awaited moment arrived. After five hundred years of expectation, she finally saw the end of the road. Caetuna felt like she’d waited an eternity to finally experience this moment.

The Empress in Reverse: When has your character felt dependent on another?

In many ways, Deuce always feels dependent on her classmates. She’s physically weaker than most of them, and doesn’t pack as much of a punch. Defensive magic is her forte, and she’s comfortable with that, but she’s very aware that when it comes to combat, she’s less effective on her own.

For the most part, it doesn’t bother her. Deuce isn’t trying to be a tank or a heavy-hitter. She uses the magic she’s most effective with. But sometimes, Deuce does feel bad for requiring protection in fights.

Perturbation stole across solemn features as he flips through his lecture notes. There was no way Machina could possibly focus on homework or exams when the upcoming mission was pressing on his worries. Hands combed through ebony locks restlessly, a loud sigh escaping him as he hunches over his desk, his forehead hitting the surface with an abrupt thud. Unfortunately, that really hurt.

      “Ow.”

This is important. This is important. You need to focus on this.

Deuce felt her lips twisting into a grimace even as she reminded herself of this fact, squinting down at her own notes. It wasn’t that she was a bad student. It wasn’t even that she wasn’t interested in the subject matter. On the contrary, the flutist often found herself enjoying her classes.

But it was very had to think about historical trivia when another mission loomed in the very near future. Deuce found her gaze sliding back towards her bag, where her copy of the mission briefing sat. Perhaps she should go over it again, just one more time, to be sure--

“Ow.”

The nearby thump drew Deuce’s attention. At the next desk over, one of Class Zero’s newest additions hunched, looking miserable.

“Are you alright?” Deuce asked quietly, offering a small, worried smile.

“Mhm!” It’s no surprise that she’s quick to further encourage the brunette to sing a song. Though it would probably take a bit more than just her excitement to show to push her into singing a song. Seemed like it would have to wait a little. That was fine by her. 

“Oh, wait! Before you start… Have you and Ace ever sung a song together?” Finding herself  believing Deuce’s words fully, she was made curious about these sorts of things.

Deuce hesitated. She hated to turn down a request, but... Well, she just wasn’t quite comfortable singing for an audience, even if it only consisted of one. Still, she had her flute with her. Maybe the other girl wouldn’t mind if--

“Huh? Me and Ace? Oh, no, we haven’t-- I would really love to play for him sometime, though!” A wistful little sigh escaped the girl’s lips, her admiration for her classmate obvious. “But we’re always so busy, it seems... Maybe someday.”

Reminder. If you’re rping a canon character and feeling insecure about your writing, or fearing replacement, simply remember that your muse is not just a duplicate. No one else will be able to breathe life into that character the way you do. No one else will feel the exact way you feel about your muse. There will be people who value your muse and never stop writing with you no matter what. There will be people who appreciate your portrayal, no matter how many other versions are out there. Always remember why you made your blog. Never let anyone or anything cast your passion out of your heart !!
