PATRICK JANE in The Mentalist 1.01, "Pilot"
he’s so sad and pretty and pretty and sad
That's it. That's the whole show.
#cho questioning his entire existence
I LOVED THIS CONVERSATION
“What are you doing”
“I’m following the conversation… (something something stuff)…”
“Are you reading their lips?”
“Yeah, I would be if I didn’t have to answer inane questions”
“Oh, okay, BOSS”
“I’m not your boss, why would you say that?”
“Sometimes, now, you act like you are”
“But we’re equals. We’re partners.”
“Okay great just remember that”
“I will remember that. I will. Oh great now i dont know what theyve decided.”

patrick jane truly is a character of all time. he's arrogant. he's broken. he's haunted. he's funny. he's genuinely delighted by small pleasures. he likes breaking and entering. he's a tea snob. he's tortured frequently on screen. he flinches every time a gun goes off. he hides behind his female colleagues when he gets scared. he's a sociopath. he's a liar. he does magic tricks. he has basically no moral compass and will do anything to catch the guy who killed his wife and child, including lie to and use everyone he cares about. he sleeps on a mattress on the floor in the room his family was murdered in, with the calling card of their killer still on the wall. he loves children. he's very empathetic. he's the reason his family is dead. he loves setting traps and catching people in lies. he hates rich people and doesn't care when they get murdered. he's a card shark. he always knows what everyone is thinking. when people piss him off he makes their lives miserable. he hypnotises people all the time. he's a con man. he's the most honest guy you'll ever meet. like literally where else do you find a freak like that.
Sara Torres, from her novel titled "X Is Where I Am," orginally published in March 2026
A woman must stay alone for a long while until the hate men have for women has left her, and even longer until the jealousy women have for other women has left her, and longer still until the anger her children have for her has left her—until she is no longer a woman altered by the resentment of men, women, and children, no longer what others have forced her to be, but empty as a skull or a shell, filled only by whatever she pleases, forest air perhaps.
— Kiran Desai, The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny
You can be talking to someone and she'll be like, "Oh I made a silly mistake. Women don't deserve voting rights teehee." And you'll be like, "What." And she'll be like, "Oh I'm sorry! That must sound so bad out of context. No it's this Tiktok meme where, if you're a girl and you do something dumb, you say 'Women don't deserve voting rights teehee.'"
And you'll be like, "That sounds bad." And she'll be like, "No no. It's totally not that bad. It's just a meme. Men say it too. Like if a man does something silly he'll be like, 'I am like those women who do not deserve to vote.'" And you'll be like, "Does that make it better?" And she'll be like, "Well there was one guy who tried to make 'Men shouldn't vote' a popular meme. But it never caught on and also he got yelled at a lot."
And then you drop it there because like, you're harshing the vibe.
God this makes me think of this screenshot:
"it minimizes you as a person" really wraps up my entire discomfort with the whole "oh but i'm just a girl" thing when used in most situations.
i think it's very important that people know how common undereating is, esp. for feminized people, and how the lower calorie requirements for "women" are bullshit. you don't need to have a restrictive eating disorder (a psychiatric disability in which your relationship with food + body image is dangerous to your health [sometimes deadly] and prohibits you from participating in your daily life, forming relationships, and so on) to not be eating enough.
you could go your whole life not eating enough and not die or get really sick, but just be tired and grumpy a lot, or perform worse, or have brain fog, or a million other things. like there are so many gradations between "should have a snack" and "has a severe eating disorder". maybe you don't have an eating disorder, but you should still start eating more than iced coffee for breakfast. try it sometime!
“Emotional abuse works like this: You are screamed at, and then, not knowing any better, you stand up for yourself. You think this is a way of being strong. You think this is a defense tactic. But this only provokes more screaming. Going silent provokes more screaming too, but usually it keeps the threats to the minimum. It keeps it just at screaming and not: a shove down the stairs, or order to pack your stuff and get out. So you learn how to go silent. How to play dead. How to cry without making a noise. How to swallow noise. How to wipe your cheeks, get out of the car, and go about your day. You learn. And when the screaming has stopped, when the two of you are in the car or out to dinner and they’re all smiles, all asking for favors, all questions, you are still hurt and annoyed and want to ask them, how? How can you speak to me like that? How can you pretend you did not say those things? How can you have forgotten? But you’ve learned. So you listen to, “Can I borrow your key”s and “how was your day”s and you play dead. You swallow the noise. And sometimes it doesn’t matter who is speaking to you, it doesn’t matter if they’re a friend, it doesn’t matter if their criticism is constructive, it doesn’t matter. You’ve learned. Any sort of speaking, any raising of the voice, any insult and you play dead.”

I write to you with a heavy heart, filled with fear and intense pain. My health is deteriorating rapidly; I'm experiencing shortness of breath and relentless dizziness due to the anemia that continues to ravage my health.
I'm terrified I might faint at any moment. My body is weakening, and I'm also starving. I can no longer endure this constant pain, hunger, and fear.
Please help me by donating so I can buy food to satisfy my hunger and medicine to alleviate my suffering. Please help me before my pain worsens and I faint. Please share and donate.
Please help my friend Ahmed to afford food and medicine. He urgently needs a source of stable nutrition.

i love when parents used to say you’ll understand when you’re an adult and then you become an adult and you’re like ohhh i do understand. i understand that you were a weird fucking cunt. i know this because now i am a weird fucking cunt too. and i still don’t treat kids that way
loving this asinine comment. just in case anyone needed the whole concept laid out for them
