(this is about revolutionary girl utena and her tale of shim chong) i love it when stories are like 'there truly is no safety or hope or dignity for women under the cisheteropatriarchal regime. relying on the goodwill of men, no matter how "kind" or "different" they seem at first, is nothing but a comforting lie. the only freedom is to cast the cage off altogether.' i love that both series refuse to have a token good guy who is the "one exception" to everything. in some way shape or form all the men are entitled, callous, misogynistic, and cruel, even as they remain deeply human and authentic. it's an almost overwhelmingly realistic portrayal of things, and in the end, neither utena/anthy nor chong/madame jang found the "right" way to live under the system, because a right way doesn't exist. they had to reject it utterly, remove themselves from it entirely, and only then did they find happiness and peace

god tumblr's aroace community is obsessed with platonic ideals of love and intimacy to the point it can be super alienating for someone who does not vibe with that model either. if you are aroace and do not experience yearning, the need for a qpr relationship, or enjoy fanfiction or media based around intimacy and comfort… you're still valid. you're not broken or weird. i've been like this forever and it has not negatively impacted my quality of life. you will be okay, and you will be happy and thrive.

never take HyunA and Mizi's narrative foils/parallels dynamic away from me they're so good

I like how, in essence, this comic describes how both of them hold a sense of resilience and strength even through grief and the suffering they go through, but the way they approach that grief later is so different, HyunA and the rebellion wanted to peacefully get their point across in an impactful way, Mizi needed to get her anger across, chose revenge and atonement and punishment when it all came down to it, HyunA focusing on staying on her feet and moving forward despite her feelings and Mizi being stuck on the past and people she can't possibly abandon, Mizi knows the plan isn't as reliable because the rebellion can't bet on strangers, there are even complicit humans, they all know that yet... HyunA has so much faith in humans' ability, Mizi doesn't share the sentiment. it goes on and on...

Thinking so many thoughts abt the recent comic…both mizi and sua ‘got’ what they initially wanted

Sua got what she wanted as she said in her subsong. She “settled down” permanently in mizi’s heart… Most likely what is burdening Mizi yet making her keep going. Sua who always was treated as a doll, replaceable among many owned by her master + how fleeting her popularity would be in trends, left herself immortalised in Mizi…Sua who can never live without Mizi, so Mizi chooses to live (burnt, grieving and all) for her. In a way, sua never wanted mizi to grieve like this (choosing to smile at her death after all) yet she got what she desired.

Mizi as a child grew up wanting to escape Shine. She grew up on an aquatic planet, sheltered from hurt as much her alien masters could understand. Surrounded by aliens who could crush her instantly. When she finally meets equally to humans, she realises her final desire in her fate. She is now in a waterless desert. Burnt out of the beauty that haunted her for so long. Surrounded equally by humans this time, but now is witch-hunted. Humans want to crush her now.

I love how Shinichi's standard of upholding the laws of any country are completely dependent on the situation he is in. Breaking and entering? Completely okay if it is in the pursuit of the only One Truth. Eavesdropping? He doesn't understand why it was illegal to begin with. Privacy is a delusion when it comes to detectives. Drugging people? Absolutely okay. Who cares if they might end up questioning their sanity as a result of Shinichi drugging them? It was for the only One Truth. Theft? It's okay if it was for the Greater Good. Identity theft? Normal for him. Underage literally anything? He's trained for it all in Hawaii. Using guns? Also okay because he's using it on the Bad Guys. To disarm of course, never to kill. Kicking deadly soccer balls at people? It wasn't a crime to begin with. I just love how weird Shinichi is. He can be cool but we know we love him because he is such a loser. Intelligent loser but still a loser. Endearingly so.
