"I really, really promise. No, wait! I pinky promise!" And she stuck her pinky out on her right hand, holding it out towards him. An offer, allowing him to choose if he wanted to accept and allow her into his space, or deny that.

Some humans took someone away from him...? "I... I don't know who they took away, but I'm really sorry about it." She frowned, and plucked at some grass peeking out from the mist surrounding them. "... Mama tries to hide it from me, but she's scared something's gonna take my daddy away. We even moved houses, to try and fix it, but she's still scared."

She smiles at him, small and shy. "Well, yeah, there's nice people everywhere. Mama and Dad say that it's not nice for you to judge someone before you know them. At least, that's what they say when I tell them about the mean kids at school--that they're wrong, because they're mean before trying to be nice. I try to be nice to everyone, because that's the right thing to do."

he tilted his head in minor confusion: what was a 'pinky promise'? though he flinched a little bit when her hand drew closer, indrid soon lifted his own hand up to hers. it was an odd gesture when he only had three fingers and didn't know what to do next - but at least he was trusting her enough to do so. he gave soft clicks and chittering sounds - presumably in approval.

his confusion returned as she didn't seem to recognize the story of humans and sylvain - wouldn't humans remember something that significant? it was definitely significant to them. but if humans didn't remember them, maybe that was a good thing...? he decided to focus instead on the human in front of him and how she was speaking about her family.

" i don't have a mom or dad... " he was one of the few among the 'beastfolk' children that hadn't been born to a family, but born purely out of magic and chance - or so janelle had told him. it was supposed to make him special, but all it did was make him feel more alone. " ... i hope your daddy can find somewhere to hide. f-from the something that wants to take him. it's scary to have to keep moving all the time. " he knew what it was like, after all...

" ... um, i'm sorry i judged you. " he murmured, wiping his face with his uppermost hands, but trying his best to replicate a smile. " miss janelle only told me a-about the bad humans. but ... i guess that was a really long time ago. " he paused, before tilting his head again in curiosity. " do humans have names? do you have one? i can give you a name if you don't! my name's indrid. "

Luz startled, falling onto her rear and covering her ears in response to the sudden cry from the little creature in front of her. Still, although pained, her expression remained concerned for him. He was so scared...

She'd never been called a human before--like, yeah, she was one, but for someone to say something like that in fear...

Who had hurt this poor thing? He was a kid, just like her, wasn't he?

"N-no, I promise!" she insisted, lowering her hands and shaking her head. "I don't wanna hurt anyone! I-I just wanna find my way outta here..." She frowned, tilting her head to the side. "Why would anyone wanna hurt you? You're just a kid, like me..."

even though she was physically larger than him, she sounded like another child - albeit one with less fangs or fur than he was accustomed to. ( not that the other sylvan children wanted much to do with him, anyway. ) when she stumbled backwards, he felt a bit guilty ( human or no ) - and soon quieted his shrieking.

" ... you really really promise? " he asked, still sniffling a bit and blinking the tears away. while hesitant, he wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt. he tried to calm himself enough to bring the potential futures into a discernible pattern. after a few moments of seemingly staring into the distance, indrid drew a shaky sigh of relief. he couldn't see any likely outcome where she would want to hurt him. her question only cemented that, and indrid tilted his head.

" ... 'cause humans took her away, a-and they wanted to hurt us before ... " being so young, he didn't know all the details yet - no one had been so blunt with him as to explain the horrors of war, thankfully - but he knew enough. humans had attacked, shattered sylvain, and left them on a dying world. it didn't paint a very flattering image for humanity, at the very least. "-- a-and bad people get sent to live with the humans and they never ever come back. " he made an uncomfortable squeaking and clicking sound to himself as he seemed to think this through for a few seconds.

" ... i didn't know there were nice humans. " indrid admitted sheepishly, fidgeting with his hands again.

the voice was gentle and made him pause. " ... y-you're lost too? " he carefully turned around to look. at first, he thought she might have been a specter or a vampire... but he couldn't see through her, and he definitely didn't see any sharp fangs or claws....

instead of feeling more at ease when she lowered closer to his level and apologized, he felt his fur stick up on end at the realization of just what she was. human. instantly, the sylvan child started to wail ( a horrid nails-on-chalkboard sound ) instead of giving a verbal answer.

" no! you - you're human! " indrid sniffled, covering his face with his upper arms - as if it would make her disappear, or hide him from her. " you're - you're lying... " he whined through hiccuping sobs. " you're gonna hurt me, just like you hurt her... " everyone knew the story of sylvain - and how humans had broken her heart.

the tiny sylvan's hands fidgeted nervously as he stumbled through the misty terrain. this wasn't the forests that he knew - there were no ghostly silhouettes threatening to grab him - but it didn't make him any less frightened. this didn't look like any part of sylvain that he'd seen - physically or in his visions. his visions which, at the moment, were even more muddled and hazy than usual.

with quiet and uncertain squeaks and chirps, he closed his eyes, trying to focus on one of the potential futures to help him find his way back to the familiar - until he picked up the sound of something much bigger than him moving closer. jumping in fright, he gave a shrill squeak before trying to run for cover - before he, too, ended up like the ghostly figures in the decaying parts of sylvain. " go 'way! "

The Council looked down upon carnal pleasures, much less ones enacted between unions not among a man and a woman. The angel knows—is trying to keep in mind—that to call that a sin would be just another unreasonable judgement laid upon mortal souls. But as for himself? He wasn’t made for that kind of pleasure; he cannot be tempted by sinful acts of the flesh. (And yet the machine’s abrupt departure still lingers on his mind, and he can’t shake it.)

“I don’t think it’s unreasonable,” he says, shoving the phone away and wishing badly that Minos was here—he had always been better at this kind of thing. He tries to channel some of the late king now. “I would not expect anyone to instantly know the preferences of the other party. You know plenty more about your… boyfriend, I’m sure.” He’s a bit embarrassed to even say the word. Heavens, he’s pathetic. But these two were some of the first people he’d met here who’d been kind to him—he owes the mortal some semblance of reassurance, at least.

“Are you yet getting to know each other? Tell me about him.”

" ...you don't have to answer, if you're uncomfortable with it. " he wasn't sure if gabriel deliberately chose to avoid his question, or if he just hadn't registered it - but he wasn't going to pry, regardless. perhaps that was something that gabriel had yet to discover about himself, given the archaic term he'd used at first. and the way he nearly seemed to stumble over the word 'boyfriend'. ( it was a bit endearing, in its own way - though indrid felt that commenting as much wouldn't go over well. )

he settled for uttering a quiet but still somewhat tense "thank you" as he saw gabriel text ( presumably ) barry. " i suppose you're right about that ... it just seems odd that i still don't know the little things about him, after everything we've already been through. not that i'm ungrateful for things to finally have calmed down a bit in the city. " he was definitely thankful that the flower incident had passed. " he's, in a way, saved me and ....others from me. "

" barry is ... an anomaly among the humans that i've met. a pleasant one, i assure you - but, still. i ... never really expected to find someone like him. not ... not for me, anyway. " indrid confessed quietly, his hand idly running over his necklace. someone who wasn't repulsed by what he was - and even welcomed the real him. ( there was a difference between being merely tolerated and being fully, truly accepted in his entirety. ) " im sure that you already know, but he's very kind. he tends to think outside the box, as far as problem-solving goes ... that probably goes hand-in-hand with his tendency to be more open-minded than other people. " indrid bowed his head - unable to hide his smile, now.

" funnily enough, he saw the ... other version of me first. he even tried to talk to me right off the bat, even though i tried to play up the 'menacing cryptid' bit. not a very flattering first impression, but that didn't seem to deter him at all. " he paused, looking back to gabriel. " how ... how did you meet barry? i assume you're at least on good terms with him. what do you make of him? "

he cocked his head to the side at the unfamiliar term, but had to stifle a laugh as gabriel clarified what he meant - as well as the angel's apparent embarrassment at having used such an archaic word. given what he'd heard about the realm that gabriel was from, though, it wasn't much of a wonder why he was a bit confused about terminology. " yes, i am. i suppose i was better than hiding it than i thought. " a joke, of course - he hasn't been in the closet for centuries, and he didn't care to hide it here. " what about yourself? "

his fond almost-smile returned at his relationship being called 'sweet'. hearing that gabriel was already well-acquainted with barry was no surprise - barry's willingness to get invested in the lives of others was one of the things that indrid found so endearing. " that's ... a good idea, actually... could you ask about his favorite things to eat? " barry already knew what he liked to eat, but indrid couldn't say the same.

" ... that's probably the sort of thing a boyfriend should already know though, isn't it? "

Oh! He hadn’t realized mortals still celebrated that holiday—Minos, you would have loved to see this, he thinks, fully aware that he’s the one who struck the King of Lust down.

“Who are you celebrating with?” Gabriel may be clueless about romance, but he’s not that clueless. He leans over conspiratorially, though he can’t help here. He’s more curious than anything else. For no reason.

The question’s not embarrassing, really. Still, the angel feels heat rise in his face, and he’s suddenly very glad he keeps that helmet on.

the sylvan fidgeted a bit. there was absolutely no reason that he had to feel so bashful about it, but he still ... awkward about speaking about his relationship so openly. relationship. an actual relationship - with someone who was even proud to state that they were together, apparently. his face warmed even more at the thought - though a fond smile threatened to appear on his lips.

" ... have you met a human named barry? bluejeans? " barry did tend to be a bit more outgoing than himself - it wasn't entirely impossible that gabriel had met him, too. " i ... we are ... dating. " his words were drawn out, as if he weren't certain of what he was saying. ( he was, he just wasn't used to saying it. ) " it's admittedly a new experience for me. the - dating, i mean. not the, ah - " he cleared his throat again. " - the seeing someone. which is why i'm a bit clueless in regards to valentine's day customs - despite the fact that i've been on earth for over a century. "
