The small sense of relief he feels when the wind returns is thrown askew when the wind blows harder than he intends. This isn’t right. The whipping wind is blowing clouds of sand across the once peaceful beach, bringing the waves up into spiky peaks. And this has never happened before. He feels for the winding thoughts holding the structure of the dream in place and the thoughts feel strange. Like they’ve been touched.
No. But it wasn’t possible. Could it have been another dreamwalker? But even dreamwalkers have to abide by the rules that set the dreams in place. Even if you’re a dreamwalker you can’t just walk into a dream. Closing his eyes he feels for the trace of the other, pulling the darkened thoughts into his mind as he tries to reach the source.
He can feel something waiting, but he can’t see anything when he looks around. There’s a shadow lurking at the corner of his vision and he turns; trying to catch it. But every time he turns his head it’s gone; the wisps of smoke playfully dancing away from his grasp.
Groaning in frustration, he yanks the tainted threads closer, reaching for the throat. He runs, following the queasy feeling in his stomach back to his bedroom and watching in horror as the shadows start to curl around the bookcases housing his most important memories. Snapping his head to the side, he catches the glimpse of figure there, the barest outline of hair disappearing into thin air.
Who? And just as his eyes light up in anger, he realizes the scent of the sea is nearly gone from the air. The fight drains from him and he pales, fingers trembling as the tainted strains of thought escape him.
He has to shut down the dream.
This time Sehun laughs aloud, but his laughter is like thunder somewhere far at the sea. Minseok was easier than what Sehun thought, and oh, it pleases him so.
What Sehun enjoyed the most was how he could feel what Minseok felt; it all affected his surroundings, it was the one feeding Sehun's power. Sehun wished to wrap his shadows around Minseok to get more, but it was too soon for that.
Sehun needed more control to do it, and to gain more control he needed more information - but he supposed it wasn't going to be difficult. For now just knowing he had made the once peaceful place into something Minseok has to leave from was equal to a very successful night. For the first time trying this on Minseok, Sehun was really happy of the outcome.
Sehun hoped that by the time he was through with Minseok, feeling safe in his own dreams would be just a distant memory for him. Sehun felt excitement in him grow at the thought; he wanted to take his time, and he was going to, but it was always great to look out into the future.
It felt so good to do this again. Sehun felt so powerful, so in control.
He let himself move in a form of a body made out of smoke from shadow to shadow, circling Minseok as the wind started to circle the bedroom, started to circle them, as if challenging Minseok to work faster. But oh, what a shame. I would've loved to play with you for a little longer.
Though still, Sehun didn't want to push his luck. But he was determined to stay there until the last possible moment, tormenting Minseok to the very last second, wanting to bury this into Minseok's consciousness so it would keep his mind busy for the next day.

He’s in the middle of choosing a book of memories to look through when the wind stops. He notices the sudden calm immediately. The lack of wind jars him and his head snaps up, sliding the book back into the bookcase as he makes his way back to the living room, a chill passing through him.
There’s something wrong, but he’s not sure what it is. Could someone have gotten into his dream? But he’s been so careful picking his password and setting up the defenses! Even though the beach might look open and unguarded, his mind is layered in thick blankets of protection, each of them swaddling the fragile center where his house is.
Besides, he should know if there were someone else there. Every surface and every pebble is connected in a web of his thoughts. He can feel the thrumming of his being in the very air itself, and if someone else were to enter he’d know immediately.
Maybe he’s just tired? Brows furrowing, he concentrates, pulling at the interlocking threads of energy in his mind, demolishing some thoughts and reinforcing others. He slowly rebuilds the gaps that he finds, filling in all the cracks. And the wind returns. He relaxes, but the sense of unease isn’t entirely gone. There’s still something wrong in the hue of the clouds and the desaturation filtering the waves. It’s no longer the bright sunny day it was before but he can’t place why.
Sehun almost wants to laugh aloud. Though he knew that such action wouldn't mean he would be discovered, he wanted to continue this in silence. The visible confusion and uneasiness was delicious, and it just made Sehun want to mess around with Minseok a little more.
So, the wind started blowing a bit stronger after it started again, not in a way to create a mess but enough to be just above calm. Meanwhile the ocean kept turning blacker and blacker, as Sehun effortlessly found his way through to control the dream as he wanted.
Minseok's defenses were different due to him being a dreamwalker, but it didn't mean it was going to stop Sehun. He slipped past everything like smoke and pulled the threads as he wished, wanting to cut them all together and tie them into tight knots in ways they weren't supposed to be. And Minseok had no one to blame but himself, their conversation being like an open invitation for Sehun to step into his world and tilt it.
Sehun wanted to destroy Minseok's sense of security, keep him at unease and feeling out of control in his own safe place. He wanted to use his fear against him, see him suffer, and Sehun would enjoy it. Because that's just who he was.
That's what he had always been, and what he always would be.
The shadows grew out of their corners, bending and stretching over towards Minseok on the walls and on the floors, slowly, voicelessly. The wind kept blowing, gripping at the curtains, making uneasy noise as it whistled in the corners.
The scent of salt was fading.

REQUEST : SEHUN FOR ANONYMOUS
sweet dreams; sehun & minseok
Sometimes falling asleep is like diving off a cliff and Minseok lets himself freefall into an unknown abyss of overlapping minds, wondering which one he’ll land in. Other times it’s like following a thread to the door he’s been searching for, peering at the light shining through from underneath as he picks his way in. But when he’s going into his own dreams it’s different. Tonight it’s the gentle tug at his feet pulling him beneath the waves of sleep.
Smells are always what he notices first, and even before he opens his eyes he can smell the familiar scents of salt and stone. There’s that bitter taste of brine in the air and Minseok smiles, already relaxing. This is the place he made for himself and this is his haven.
The sunlight is bright when he finally opens his eyes and he squints, holding up a hand to block the rays. Everything looks white under the sun today, blues and grays giving way to the light, and it’s with some difficulty that he picks his way down the pier, avoiding the shells of mussels and crabs littered over the concrete.
His house is just how he left it - the patio doors wide and their sheer white curtains rippling in the breeze - and he smiles, walking straight into the living room. It’s a small house, but it’s the kind of house he’s always wanted; just six rooms with plenty of bookcases surrounded by the ocean. He can see the beach past the glass doors on the other side of the room and he walks through the house, feeling the salty breeze lick the air around him.
This is house is him. It’s his mind and all his secrets and it’s where he he can finally feel safe. At least as long as no one else finds their way in.
Sehun stands outside, letting the surroundings of Minseok's dream sink in. He almost wants to whistle out loud at the view; it's impressive, so beautiful it almost makes Sehun sick. But then again, he didn't know what he expected. Somehow something like this seems exactly like Minseok. Sehun feels the wind, smells the scents, sees the ocean. He smiles. What a place to dream of.
He can't wait to bring some chaos to that peace.
Sehun moves out of sight before there's a chance to be seen, he blends into the shadows that the sun creates. But the shadows aren't dark enough, too peaceful and harmless for Sehun's liking. That won't do.
Inside the house, the shadows start getting darker, they get more twisted on the floor as if forgetting how shadows are supposed to behave. They create almost grayish scale into the house, because the sun is still bright. The ocean is darker. It's as if the softness of the view is slowly fading, the edges getting sharper.
The wind stops blowing, the curtains stop rippling. It's almost like everything stills, and while Sehun isn't done yet, he stops to observe Minseok. Sehun wants to give him little things to notice, and Sehun is interested to see how Minseok will respond to them.
Baby steps. Sehun was just starting.
