Was it that obvious? The lack if caffeine, he meant. Perhaps there was something to be said about his tolerance. And the fact it steadily built, and built like calcification. There wasn’t much that effect him. And to be fair, he wondered if it ever really had, and it was more of a placebo effect more than anything.
Whatever. The grogginess was perhaps merely attributed to the fact he 1) actually slept that night, and 2) slept longer than what he was used to. It was a natural reaction, after all. Right. That was the excuse. How dare he be dependent on something.
Despite his lack of characteristic crystal clarity, Sei’s burst of excitement didn’t go unnoticed. The sudden change of mood bordered on tangible before it was ever reflected in his voice, and the ripple of blankets catching the air as they were flung from the boy’s small frame. And he found himself silently wishing for the energy to be contagious as pale feet hit the floor, and pattered in their rush against wooden floors.
Somehow, Mink managed to keep his composure, and carry through the act of getting dressed rather casually, as if there was no other motive underlying his request for his lover’s company than just that.
The concept of birthdays were not exactly lost on Mink, but rather their importance had dulled. It wasn’t something he’d gone out of his way to remember, really, especially as far as himself was concerned. It had long become just another day on the calendar, another 24 hours to blur into the next for another sleepless night, something he’d rather forget if he wasn’t reminded. There was no sense in celebrating something that had no meaning. It was the day he’d come into the world, now with the sole intent on leaving it.
Then again, it had been so long since he’d allowed anyone close enough to care about trivial things like that.
Curious how things could change so quickly.
No, birthdays had little importance to Mink, but he was more than keenly aware of the fact that he was not everyone. And especially not Sei, who might as well have been his opposite in every sense of the word. So maybe it was time to find some importance there.
The last button of his shirt slipped through the hole, and he finally followed suit.
Just like that, the day is immensely brighter. As if there was no need to fret, in fact it was unlike him to not jump on the gun and so bluntly ask Mink if he knows what day it is today. Or maybe it's because Sei would rather enjoy that the normally quiet male is the one to make the move first. And it had been him to nonchalantly suggest that he tags along with whatever errands he has to run for the day. Thus the hastened routine to wash up, a smile ever glued to those lips of Sei
A hum of an obvious birthday tune softly sung from the back of his throat as he washed his face, brushed his teeth and looked at himself in the mirror. Perhaps long ago, months and months ago he abhorred looking at himself. His own reflection, but there is very little of that now. He pauses now and then, but he isn't afraid anymore.
He isn't alone anymore.
All washed up and he hurred back to their bedroom to have his turn in dressing up. Such flourish in how he opened the cabinet that had been offered for his share of clothes. Some in...slightly messy piles, but he can tidy it up later, whenever they return. "Where are we go? Should I wear something nice...?" asking aloud in much enthusiasm and thought. As he filtered through his clothes.
Maybe something a bit dressy, since after all it is his birthday though he had to keep in mind of the weather. The season. It's still fairly hot and humid, but the weather reports the previous evening declared it'd be clear skies for the week. Wasn't long before he located a sleeved button-up shirt, to be a bit lose but drape his frame perfectly; made of light fabric. Once jeans, shoes and coat located to join the ensemble, he was ready, just carefully untucking the now long hair of raven from when it got caught inside of his collar as he hurried to meet Mink in the living room.
