I’m finally done reading Sekigahara New Perspective by Professor Shiramine Jun. Here are some interesting points: Western army had a chance
Hey so I was thinking and I think, partially Ivan is based on Judas or rather what he could have been… Fyodor is the devil, he is the epitome of nihilism but Ivan is the one who is getting corrupted by Fyodor (Ivan is the one who cannot deny that Fyodor's actions are justifiable because God doesn't exist). Judas is the one who doubts, he is the one who gets seduced by the devil, he's the one who betrays. And I think Ivan represents the struggle to this corruption. But what Dostoyevsky does is that he changes the ending for Ivan, at the end he doesn't betray (on the contrary, he claims he's the one who's guilty). And when Dostoyevsky says hell is suffering of being unable to love, that directly shows what saved Ivan and what couldn't save Judas. Ivan doesn't go to "hell" because he loves his brothers and he loves Katerina (he loves the world) and the reason why Judas ended up in hell wasn't because of his sin but because there was no love in him anymore, he lost the ability to love… adding to this, the way Judas is portrayed in "The last days of Judas Iscariot" reinforces Dostoyevsky's definition of hell - there's Jesus who pours his heart out to Judas to save him but Judas refuses not only because he has lost the ability to love but also the ability to receive love. That is his hell, a loveless void.
I think Fyodor is God, the heavenly father. And Dostoevsky was basically saying "He sucks, but hey! You don't want him dead!"

In fact, there's an analysis that he was indeed the evil mastermind of the drama. It's just that his objective was to isolate Xiao Yao and possess her entirely. He's very smart and always borrowed others' knife, so everyone doesn't notice it.

I totally get why people ship her with 17 and demon boy but close to nobody ships her with this freakshow.

Well the ending is a disaster.
Honestly am not surprised - youku’s last big ticket xianxia was Immortal Samsara and it had a complete disaster of an ending (also last two xianxias ChongZi and The Starry Night had messed up endings) + TTJ did bad stuff during mortal arc so censors won’t be keen on his happy ending + they had no time (this thing is already more crammed than a Tokyo train at rush hour) + the last quarter of the drama was an incoherent if beautiful in terms of acting and visuals mess (don’t depart from the novel unless you are the screenwriter for LBFAD!)
Also I hate any type of ending unless it makes sense. Tragic? Great - Goodbye My Princess and One and Only and BBJX had masterpieces of tragic endings. But here this feels instead as “Hi! see Goth Jesus put on this earth to suffer for you and die to redeem you, but unlike OG Jesus he looks fab doing it!” And open endings can be good too (a lot of people hated Novoland Eagle Flag’s open ending but it was so utterly fitting to its narrative and message!) Bur here it’s not even open for thematic reasons but to get benefits of both sides and to just try to wiggle and wiggle (and not even properly open, just a little bit to throw crumbs for kicks) How narratively cowardly!
Anyway, goodbye hot mess! You were glorious for a good portion of your run and by the time the stupid ending happened you were a mess for so long I am emotionally fine other than irritation so best of both worlds?
PS this is the same screenwriter as for HYX and all of a sudden I am feeling copacetic with not seeing that drama. It’s bad they fucked up a novel and characters I liked, it would be horrific if their grubby hands screwed up 2ha and Mo Ran and Chu Wanning.
PPS On plus side, single mom SuSu can now relive their sex tape any time she feels blue.
They should only show the tombstone scene if LSS didn't find out TTJ's true intention. They really should stick to the drama BE and locked HE behind paywall.
But I have started warming up with the drama ending after I found out TTJ was a higher god than MY prior to become demon god. They kind of stick to the vision that this drama is about obtaining divinity by letting go worldly obsession. It's not entirely pointless ending, but the execution was a bit #eh
This post is partially inspired by comments made by me and @arizona-trash-bag in a @dangermousie post about Cheng Yi. brief recap: I said Cheng Yi needs to be in a danmei, Arizona said Luo Yunxi is a refined beauty whereas Cheng Yi is sensual. I then compared LYX to the beautiful, elegant, perfect main wife who’s kind of frigid and CY to the sexy and seductive concubine who’s meant to fulfill all of the husband’s carnal desires. Mousie said anyone who has both in their harem is never leaving the house.
And thus, spawned the idea of a danmei where Luo Yunxi is the virtuous, beautiful, and perfect empress and Cheng Yi is the seductive calamitous beauty who is the emperor’s favorite noble consort who was placed by his side by scheming ministers to keep him from doing any real work. LYX and CY duke it out in the harem to gain the emperor’s attention - LYX, to get the emperor back to being a good ruler, CY, to hold power and have a good time in bed with the hot (because they always have to be hot in danmeis) emperor with a huge pillar (also a prerequisite for being a top in a danmei)
Now the most important thing is, who should play said emperor/top in this hypothetical story? I’m gonna give Chen Feiyu a break and not typecast him as every tall, hot headed and hot blooded, top of every BL story ever (although he would be perfect).
Well at first I was thinking of Song Weilong as the young and impressionable emperor who is not bad at heart but easily swayed/seduced by love and CY. He’s taller than both LYX and CY at 6’1 (another typical requirement of being the top in a BL) and he’s got the perfect vibe for a lovelorn emperor who doesn’t care about anything else except for his otp.
CY gives him the affection and attention that he’s always wanted from LYX who has always been an idealized goddess (god?) to him. But with every worshipped idol, there’s also a sense that they’re out of reach/untouchable. Does not help that LYX has been raised to be the perfect virtuous Empress since birth, aka, he can’t show any emotions and must put the good of the nation above everything else, including his own feelings/desires, so he treats the emperor with a certain level of reserve and distance. To put it simply, LYX is an icy queen who does not know how to show affection to the emperor and is constantly expecting him to live up to the ideals of a perfect ruler. That’s a lot of pressure and loneliness for a young king like SWL who was initially overjoyed when he learned he was going to marry his god, only to be splashed with cold water. So into CY’s warm arms and other body regions he goes!
But then, I started thinking, what if the emperor is an older type. The kind that you can believe does nothing but have tons of sex with his favorite concubine and also inspires no other thought but sex…someone like…
Mark Chao! Ok, if we go with him, this takes the story into a slightly different direction. In this version, CY does the seducing, but then ends up being the one seduced as well. LYX the repressed prudish empress also gets seduced because that’s a foregone conclusion with someone like Mark Chao as the emperor. It ends with them joining hands and other parts to defeat the corrupt court and they rule the empire peacefully. I mean…
they didn’t stand a chance.
Ok, but now my brain is spinning even more and what if, the emperor is a ruthless, calculating type? You don’t get to the top by being nice. Then, if we’re going to ignore the BL rule of the top always having to be taller, Chen Kun would be perfect.
But with him as emperor, the story takes another direction again. In this version, Chen Kun and LYX have a very loveless albeit respectful political marriage. LYX was chosen as his empress because he comes from a strong military family and Chen Kun wanted to consolidate power. It’s a lonely marriage for LYX but because Chen Kun does not disrespect him and treats his family fairly, he’s ok with his lot in life. That is until CY comes into the picture. For some reason, CY gets under Chen Kun’s skin and he can’t treat him indifferently like everyone else. What he doesn’t know is, CY entered the palace to get revenge on Chen Kun, who, during his quest for the throne when he was still just a prince, eliminated CY’s entire family a long time ago because they were from an opposing faction and tried to kill him. In a rare moment of mercy, or foolishness depending on who you ask, Chen Kun decided to spare CY’s life when he raided their mansion and massacred everyone in sight because he was only a child at that time and Chen Kun had not yet become completely jaded to bloodshed at that point in time. So CY was exiled and spent his life plotting revenge and learning all sorts of skills of seduction and assassination for said revenge. Will CY fall for Chen Kun for real or succeed in his revenge? And how will LYX react when he learns that it’s not that Chen Kun is incapable of love, it’s just that he didn’t love LYX?
Ok, since this is already the length of a short story, how about we add another iteration and make the emperor a rugged daddy type? Say…
Zhou Yi Wei as a powerful general from humble origins who overthrow the former dynasty and usurps the throne? LYX is the royal blue blood who’s a bit snobby who begrudgingly married ZYW because it was either that or risk elimination of the clan. ZYW tries his best to get along with LYX and be a fair husband but LYX is not having any of it because 1. ZYW overthrew his royal family and 2. ZYW was a commoner and LYX grew up in the palace. On the other hand, there’s CY, the younger brother of one of ZYW’s closest generals who’s followed CY since he was young and been secretly in love with him. When CY’s brother died, he asked ZYW to take CY as a concubine and take care of him. Brother has always known how much CY loved ZYW and wanted to ensure there was someone to protect him after he was gone because even though CY has followed them to war all his life, he’s a delicate flower and always attracting unwanted attention. ZYW spends time with CY who is like a familiar home for him in the foreign and cold palace with all its formalities and rules. LYX initially married ZYW for survival and looked at him with disdain but slowly he finds himself drawn to him because HELLO ZYW, and he, who has been cooped up in the grand palace his whole life, becomes curious about the wild and free life ZYW lived before he became emperor. So now ZYW is stuck between the proud and regal LYX who does not want to share his husband when he becomes emotionally invested and CY who has been his comfort and whom he feels a duty to. Oh and please enrich your life with this gif of ZYW doing what he does best

Finally, what if we make this a really tragic story. Who better to play the emperor than masochist king Qin Jun Jie?
He plays an emperor who is being poisoned by either his empress or noble consort, you guys decide. Because this is LYX, CY, and QJJ, each one of them gets whipped and/or chained up at least once in the story and it’s a competition to see who spits up blood the most number of times. The palace maids who have to do the laundry obviously are not very pleased.
Anyway, if you’ve made it all the way to the end, wow, congratulations and thank you for reading the delusions of this fangirl. Now someone talented in writing please write one or all of these danmei scenarios!

And also, after reading, no matter who the Emperor is, Helan Zhen from The rebel princess could single handedly resolve this love triangle. Yes, he's terrible, but in a AU where his family is not killed, he could make a less insane warlord causing chaos in the neighborhood kingdom but still crazy enough to kidnap LYX and, thus, resolving the issues of two different countries at the same time.

I think I have watched this show in Station B
Thinking of old dramas I love, my fondness of tragedies and storylines that censors would look askance at now, I was reminded of one of my all-time favorites, the mammoth historical epic that was Three Kingdoms 2010 (I realize it sounds weird to say I think censors would not let it air now seeing it’s based on an ancient classic but I genuinely think anything gritty and bloody and all about government overthrow times 100 would make them nervous.)
Anyway, it has a huge cast and is mainly about men with various degrees of power and monstrosity vying with each other but also, surprisingly, it features one of my all time favorite OTPs, even tho their part of the story is pretty small.
Unlike in the original, where beautiful Diao Chan is used by her adoptive father to manipulate the ruler’s best warlord into rebelling with zero feeling on her part, 3K 2010 made them into star crossed lovers where she does what she is told but she is madly in love with him and even though it’s been well over a decade since I first watched the drama, I remember them turning me into an utter lunatic, waking up at 5am so I could binge more of this drug.
I also loved that while he loved her utterly (a rare example in that drama of a man who genuinely cared for a woman; most of them saw them as playthings or brood mares or status symbols, if they thought of them at all), and was a great warrior, he was also violent, not that bright and not burdened with moral principles - he had no problem serving a monster until that monster took the woman he loved.
But I actually loved that because I found it realistic - he’s an ancient warlord, not a modern man.
Anyway, above is the scene of his death and one of my favorites in the drama. I am dying to rewatch!

Why I love Qing Shi Huang Fei
1. When we first meet our heroine, she’s literally Too Good For This World ™, as she’s about to be offed by her evil Uncle for saving a young thief from death by breaking him out of prison (I am willing to suspend my disbelief that a princess of Chu and a daughter of the current ruler would get executed for anything short of having sex with livestock in the marketplace. If it was ancient Qin in the centuries before it conquered the rest of China, maybe…). I started cracking up like a maniac when the camera panned to Yan Kuan (or future love interest) watching the spectacle in a Robin Hood-type get-up and his gorgeous female assistant is telling him how Princess Fuya is beloved by the citizens and spends her time taking care of the poor and nursing the sick, and he responds “She is going to lose her life because of a beggar boy. She’s quite stupid, isn’t she?”
2. I think this wins the title of most messed-up drama family ever, and that’s saying something - hero manages a feat I have not seen before - have both his birth-mother and his bringing-up mother want him dead and his father be OK with it. Family unanimity yay? Also, just to add more irresistible wrong on top, heroine is a dead ringer for his first-loved-then-hated stepmom? Who (the heroine) he wanted to seduce his brother but then fell for himself? Sooooo messed up - there is a team of shrinks salivating to get to these people!
3. So of course I ship hero and heroine. He’s so fucked up and intense and good at killing things and she’s so bubbly and sane and sweet (at first). Mmmmmm. I totally LOLed at their first meeting, when he was reciting some supremely depressing poem about flowers withering etc and she interrupted and was all ‘stop being so emo, they’ll grow back next spring.’ LOLOLOL In this drama they’d probably be bulldozed forever instead, and then a puppy would be killed on their remains.
3. Worst Drama Mother Ever. Imperial Mother, you really don’t know how to treat your kids. I can understand you are pissed your firstborn got taken away by the Emperor to be raised by his concubine whom he, naturally, viewed a mother. BUT. Here’s a hint - if you treat him like dirt and whip him half to death, he isn’t likely to love you. Also, your second son, on whom you do dote, might not be so keen if you try to poison his chosen wife. Just sayin’! Soon you are going to run out of kids.
4. It has the following sequence:
* Imperial Mother doesn’t want Ruby to marry her feckless crown prince kid and, pissed off, orders her beaten almost to death so she’d confess who snuck her into palace. Yan Kuan volunteers for beat-down duty because, if not, Ruby is going to get killed for real. * Ruby is taken out and it’s not sure she’s going to live, so Yan Kuan spends all night standing not moving in a torrential downpour (what is with drama heroes, and their obsession with pneumonia?), then his servant shows up in the morning, and is all ‘she’s going to live, now pls tell me, you didn’t stay out like this all night, Queen Mum might hate you but she’ll still have my head if you keel over.“ Yan Kuan manfully says he’s fine, only to promptly collapse in a heap (I was counting down to it in my head). * He gets off his sickbed to convince Ruby to leave the palace by pretending he doesn’t want to use her in his plan any more. She’s duly pissed. * Then servants come to beg her help because she’s healer supreme and Yan Kuan is pretty much dying because during her beatdown she only got superficial injuries which means he absorbed the inner force of the blows into himself (wtf, wuxia medicine, do you ever make sense? Oh well…I still remember Return of Condor Heroes where the protagonists spent most of the time poisoned from one thing or another). So she goes to treat him and is all “OK, fine, internal injuries I get, but why does he have a cold on top?” and servant is all “well…” * Yan Kuan comes to and is all “go away, I hate you blah blah blah” and when Ruby points out the injuries, he snarls that if he knew it would happen he’d have killed her, and when she points out the rain stunt, he’s all “I wanted to make sure you’ll keel over and take my secrets with you” to which she pretty much responds “whatever, stop being a brat, shut up, and let me hand-feed you.” LOLOLOLOL. That is how you do ‘icy bastard melted by plucky good girl’ trope, dramas!

I have seen people I follow on here go feral over a new C-drama called Till The End of The Moon. I have been looking it up online, and it seems something of a bog standard xianxia story about straight people being straight.

Just look at how several years ago Twitter suspended the accounts of several Saudi girls who tried to get asylum via twitter.
Strict moderation benefits bullies the most. Some of bullying groups were so organised against minorities who tried to tell their stories. Minorities don't have that kind of mass reporting power. Bullies do.
Only westerners trust the government or safety councils to regulate censorship. This is because the majority of white people are in fact... quite nice... And the western government was functional and less discriminatory regardless how wokies say it was systemically racist. If they really believe what they're saying, they'd not let the state regulates the flow of information. Why would anyone trust a racist state to protect minorities?
This is not the case with minorities outside the west. If you're minorities outside the west, chances are safety councils might be against you. Imagine having to build a censor body for a country that is 99% homophobic. How can Twitter ensure this body wouldn't turn against lgbt people?
You have to realize that several countries considered lgbt and atheists as terrorists. If Twitter trust and safety council have to adhere to government regulation, then lgbt and atheists might be considered as security threats.
This is why I'm supporting Elon Musk demolishing woke Twitter. Because censorship is bad for minorities. Anyone who told you otherwise must be clueless woke westerners.
So, certain demographic don't understand the meaning of respect... Respect is not something you can demand. It's earned.
If you say you don't want to do stuff because it's against your conscience, your wish has to be respected.
However, if you tell others, they cannot do things according to their conscience because it made you feel uncomfortable, you're not demanding respect. You're demanding submissions.
