For Valentine’s Day, I explored some simple woodworking and fucking loved it. There’s a unique rush to building something functional, and it’s different from anything I’ve experienced from more abstract creation(songs, writing, etc) Of course, she adored it and fully appreciated the effort it took. But I didn't do this for praise or admiration. Aside from the thrill of building it, I wanted to give a great, thoughtful gift. This is still such a novel idea- in past situations, my main concern was matching money spent, which made me dread gift-giving holidays. Now, I'm finally learning what it means to want to give a thoughtful gift, one that means something and can be truly treasured. Humblebrag, but...nailed it. No pun intended. To have made a tangible thing with my hands, and to have it fully appreciated…it’s rad.
