This was supposed to be a 10 lines story of how "Hey Adolf, fuck you. Your friend Buck Cleven" ended up on a bomb. Set somewhere in Part 6/7, it's now a one shot of John trying to cheer up Gale and the two of them ending up wrapping their stories together even more. A moment of comfort and hope, in the midst of unbearable circumstances.

I have zero issues in seeing Ray pulling this on Brad. Something along the lines of: 

Ray drops unannounced at Brad’s place during a leave weekend in which Nate is visiting Brad. 

Nate is exhausted from a month worth of overworking in D.C. and the shittiest flight to Cali, delayed, grounded, every horrible thing that could happen to a plane except for violent death inducing events. Nate is hella fucking tired, guys.

So yeah, Ray drops in, manages to get up to the room without waking up Brad. Brad is the Iceman tho, so he wakes up and grabs Ray by the throat the second he realises what’s going on, not even being fully awake really. 

Ray’s throat is clenched in Brad’s hand and something resembling a choked gurgle gets out of it.

Brad’s eyes are now open and death is coming with them.

But that’s nothing, absolutely nothing compared to the Lt’s (yeah, it’s ‘captain’ but that’s as weird as calling him ‘Nate’ - even tho not as much as seeing him wrapped in Brad’s sheets, word to the motherfucker, dude.) voice: ‘Pearson, I swear to all that is merciful and holy in the universe that I won’t hesitate to call upon all that is not,’ and here Brad’s feral smile left no doubts about who he was talking about, ‘to end you. Forever.’

Brad released Ray’s throat just enough to allow him to say, ‘Yessir.’

Nate looked apparently satisfied with that not really complete exchange, and the daze of sleep fell back on him.

 ‘Seriously, who does that…’ he mumbled, and then almost unintelligibly, ‘what the fuck man… i’m tired, have mercy’ before crashing back to sleep, like the dead.

Among which Ray would soon be counted, considering how Brad got out of bed and dragged his sorry ass out of there, hand around his neck and all.

When they made it to the kitchen Brad released some pressure,‘You’re dead Pearson. Any last words?’

Ray made the effort of keeping his voice even lower than Brad’s when he mouthed ‘YOU’RE FUCKING THE LT, YOU DOG’

Brad sighed.

Being Brad was suffering.

This is infuriating because every doctor who has ever described migraine auras to me has done such an abysmal job I genuinely thought something else was going on. it took me years to get properly diagnosed.

Because it took me forever to find this out, FWIW these are known as "scintillating scotomas". I get them occasionally though mine arrive and depart without heralding headaches (they seem to be linked, for me, with blood pressure somehow)

If you start to see the scotoma in the center of your vision, sometimes you can head it off by taking aspirin, which will shorten the duration of the scotoma (and apparently may shorten the duration of a migraine as well but I can't speak to that).

To me, they look like carnations, only in neon and slowly whirling.

when i hear complaints about generation alpha i say "HOW DARE YOU. How dare you malign these souls who will have to fix so much that they did not have a hand in ruining... or else die of these mistakes made before they were born. How dare you do the work of our shared oppressors and alienate our fresh blood. You are not to mistreat and mock the youngest soldiers in this fight, no! you point out to them the best targets, you share your rations, you show them how to stay alive, because anyone in the trenches with us is our brethren, our sistren. don't let the worst kind of stand up comedian tell you other generations are terrible. Don't let the worst kind of headline convince you each generation is against the other.
