apparently saying that i would prefer jarvan over sylas (in terms of a relationship partner) means everyone in the call has to immediately say oof and yikes with an added i’m not even going to bother saying anything that make me feel like absolute shit for reasons i don’t even know... so that’s cool! great thing that my mood went from decent to absolute shit in .2 seconds over a personal opinion, only to get yelled at because idk why they’re against it!

broke: xin zhao also fears / dislikes mages woke: xin zhao’s passion for mages, growing up and coming from a heavily magic-based nation like ionia, has earned him the right to speak about mages on their behalf, and as someone who is so close to the king and his family, he is the only one who can get away with combating the king’s views on magic as a whole, so as the king grows older he starts to see where xin is coming from and how much mages are hurting, and hopes that j4 will mold the future into a more magic-inclusive society because they’re still demacians, not monsters, with the knowledge that this whole time xin has already been teaching j4 about spiritual philosophy and why magic can be useful.

--- xin zhao has attempted to coerce his mother to move to demacia since he was saved by jarvan 3 ( going with xin’s younger look, j3 had to have saved him ), and each time she has denied his request. she looks after and helps raise the children orphaned by the noxian invasion, whilst giving her aid as a healer to the wounded in ionia’s forming military.

--- she has also denied his request to move to demacia for the reason that she is, in fact, a healer and thus a mage. she would not be happy with demacia’s restrictions, even if she were to use it for the betterment of the demacian people.

--- xin zhao’s mother being a mage is one of very few secrets he has kept from the king, but is a secret shared with the prince. one of the other secrets hidden from the king and shared with the prince would be that xin can feel a glimmer of magic within himself, whether it’s his own or a blessing bestowed upon him by his mother, that allows him to persevere through the toughest conditions. his magic is a form of minor healing with gravitational manipulation, meaning he heals faster than most others, and his ability to deflect incoming projectiles is not only his physical capabilities. think of his gravitational manipulation like this: he creates a barrier of such a strong force that nothing may penetrate its outer ring for a temporary amount of time, meaning he literally thickens gravity around him to the point where it redirects any projectiles away from his person.

--- although he can feel the magic within him, he has never called upon it himself. rather, it acts fluidly to protect him and the people he wants to protect as well. it just kind of happens, hence why he’s so in-tune with nature. it isn’t just because he grew up in ionia.

--- since sylas’ escape, he has not asked his mother to move to demacia and instead insists that she is safer there.

--- xin zhao is very spiritual, and he can be found praying to the ancient dragons of ionia, calling to their spirits for their protection and guidance before a battle, or after a tough situation. he will also ask them to watch over any of the deceased during funeral services.

--- he is extremely upset with the way mages have been treated, and his standing on magic is one thing he has openly argued with the king over. xin zhao would die for the king, but many times has he not been able to stand and hold his tongue on this regard. with that said, he understands sylas’ anger, but does not agree with his methods.

--- xin zhao is a man who does not exclusively practice the laws of never raising arms to fellow demacians. it is his duty to protect the king and prince at all costs, and many times has he stood between them and other demacians. however, he will never use his spear. trained in sufficient hand-to-hand combat, xin zhao would instead disarm and seize a demacian citizen without harming them, practicing the same force they use against him, or significantly less.

COSMIC DEFENDER ;

A champion among his peers breathed his last breath, and his soul was summoned henceforth to drift between oblivions. Beyond the twinkling starlight comes a voice, distorted and echoing among the space around him. An ancient echo of the Gods humanity desperately tried so hard to reach, and yet it came to him, so naturally, with purpose. An eldritch truth in hiding, locking away its secrets from those who could use such knowledge for destruction, shows itself to him.

What is your purpose?

It asked, and the sound of dripping water fills the silence between words. He wanted to speak, to answer, but he couldn’t. A magic far too powerful for any human to overcome. No human was ever meant to speak to such beings, nor should be understand them.

This is an urgent matter. Can you be trusted?

There’s more than one voice now. The primordial Goddess’ own speaks above the choir that surrounds him, mournful and agonized cries come from them, and yet he still sees only darkness.

Open your eyes, champion. It is time to awaken.

And open his eyes he did, celestial knowledge striking them like lightning: it appears and is gone in a flash. Only then does he see the truth, where the cosmos align in the shape of a beast’s maw. Of universes and tendrils, scales and flesh, eyes and wings; it’s beautiful and horrid in harmony.

I have given you life again. Come, rise anew, and serve your Goddess.

Hands, dozens of them, grasp at his skin. They dig blunt nails in, slimy little things that are horridly misshapen and whisper in ancient tongue -- tongue he now understands, clear as day. Ancient rituals and rites of a hidden power bestowed upon him, and the phantasms draw him closer to the Goddess --- THEIR GODDESS.

xin zhao is... terrible around children in the sense that he isn’t sure of how to act around them. in his eyes, they’re the purest souls, and he always had this lingering concern that he may scare them. children are loud and unpredictable, but he’d never bring harm to them. honestly he’s likely more scared he’d accidentally kill one of them TBH
