tw : mention of losing someone
inspired by the song ‘i’ll remember’ by day6 and the hurt i felt after watching squid game.
It’s the 10-year wedding anniversary of Akaashi Keiji and you.
One decade ago, you both made the promise to always love, trust and respect each other. One decade ago, you both made the promise to be there for each other in good and in bad times. One decade ago, you both made the promise to give all the space and support needed and to cherish each other.
October 8th would forever hold a special place in the front of Akaashi’s heart.
He felt honoured that he got to meet someone like you all those years ago.
He felt blessed to experience the kind of love you provided him. The moments you gave him and the memories you two made together.
They are his most prized possessions.
Just the fact that he could call you his. That you would still be together after all the hardships your relationship went through.
He considered any minute, no second, to be very precious time to him.
It was almost sundown when Akaashi made his way over to you. A sense of calmness passed through his body, due to the mixture of warm colours, ranging from orange, red, and blue to yellow and black, that overtook the city. A soft blanket that took the last breaths of the day.
He walked the same exact path he always did. Never taking a shortcut or another route. Feeling comforted by the familiarity of it all.
He would pick up your favourite bouquet of flowers, white roses. The colour represents purity, innocence, youthfulness, loyalty, and eternity. Signifying a positive new beginning and everlasting love.
Each stem consisted of multiple white rose petals, carefully picked out by the florist from the local flower shop. The exact same shop you both had visited in the past on multiple occasions. He held the bouquet in a tight grip, still careful not to ruin any petals.
Akaashi’s mind would wander off to all the times he loved you without regrets. The times you would spend together. How he held you close to his chest, while he whispered how much he adored you. How he caressed your delicate skin lightly and gently, almost like he was convinced that he would break you if he put any more pressure on his fingertips.
However, thinking back to the past would not only bring him his much-needed serotonin boost.
No. He would also relentlessly be plagued by a voice. The voice of his bad conscience that often times than not tried to persuade him into the dark side of his mind.
You see, Akaashi had always been afraid that he would lose you. That in the passing time, you would fade away. Even from his memories and the pictures you had taken together. Completely fading away into nothingness.
It truly saddened him, the concept of time, that is. Time can’t be stopped. It’s inevitable, unchangeable.
Akaashi had finally arrived at his destination. His cerulean blue eyes would immediately search for you, the person he would forever adore the most. His feet seem to be having a mind of its own, leading him to you.
Standing now in front of you, he felt all the overwhelming emotions coursing through his body. As if he was getting shot through his heart by multiple bullets at once.
He stretched out the hand that held the bouquet of white roses and laid it down in front of him, closing his eyes and gently putting his hands against each other in a praying pose.
The all too familiar words spilling out from his mouth, like a mantra he had mastered over the years.
October 8th, the day that had a special place in Akaashi’s life.
He felt the familiar bittersweet feeling when he opened up his eyes again. However, for once he believed that he would be able to truly move on. It may take some more days, weeks, months or even years but eventually he will.
He will never forget you. Oh, god no. He will remember, because you will forever live on inside him.
“Happy 10-year anniversary, my love. I love you,” he says with a small smile gracing his face. A stray tear rolling down his cheek, falling on the concrete ground below him.
