High-pitched cackling could be heard throughout the halls of the mansion, the residents of the building found it quite amusing watching him escape their so-called ‘bottomless pit’. Upon further inspection of the hole he had made, there was a basement with a mattress under the hole. These boos were not killers in the slightest… at least on purpose.

There were stairs to Robotnik’s left, leading to the next floor and set of rooms. Predictably, another trap was prepared for him should he try and climb them

Robotnik glared down flatly at the mattress… mock him, would they? Oh, he WOULD make them pay for that indignity after he got what he was after. He growled out and looked around, red eyes darting about. “You think this is some game, do you?” he asked in a cold voice. “Well I have news for you, spirits; you will not be winning anytime soon. I’m not leaving this shack until I find what I’ve come for!” he spat, and then began to climb up the stairs while looking out for anything out of the ordinary.

“Ooooh~ Aren’t you the scary one?” An eerie feminine voice echoed. At the top of the stairs was a round, mint-green ghost with pink bows on each side of her head faded in at the top of the staircase, a curt smile tugging at her lips. “That’s quite rude of you, barging into someone’s home without permission and ransack the place looking for something. Didn’t your mother teach you any better?”

She took out a pink flowery fan and began fanning herself. “But, I tell you what… you haven’t tucked your tail in and ran off like a coward so far, so I’ll be willing to discuss whatever it is you want… if you can make it to the third floor.”

As soon as he was at the top of the stairs, they folded flat, and turned into a slide that would cause Robotnik to fall backwards. “Ha ha ha ha ha~” The spirit faded away. “Good luck~”

Robotnik gazed up at the spirit warily, sneering disdainfully as she lectured him. He had been about to interrupt her and make his demands known, when she had given her ultimatum and challenge. His eyes widened, and he yelled out in shock when the ground gave way underneath him, and he was sent rolling backward like a great red boulder. He landed in a heap at the base of the stairs and groaned with pain as he slowly got up.

“Foolish spirit,” he snarled quietly as he glared up the stairs. “Do you really think you can dispose of me so easily?” he spat, and with but a thought activated the jet boosters of his boots and simply *flew* up the stairs, landing down at the top. “There; I have met your insipid challenge,” he said disdainfully. “Now show yourself!”

The familiar female ghost and a rather old-looking spirit appeared before Robotnik, a sour pout on her face. She certainly didn't expect that the man could fly, especially with how heavy he was. She didn't like being surprised. "Hmph, the nerve of you. First you enter my home without permission, demand an audience with me, then you just barge in here without taking the proper way up. I'm surprised those jet boots can actually *carry* you. If I had known that, I would have made it a bit more challenging for you." she said, fanning herself with her rosy-pink and white fan. "Very well, state your business."

Night of survival

The piano came crashing down in pieces, but not before pausing for a split second in mid-air before it landed. A high-pitched cackle was heard echoing though the halls of the mansion.

“Nice reflexes, buddy~ Oh, you’re going to be fun!”

He definitely heard that!

Getting to his feet, Espio dashed vertically across the wall. He was still invisible, and his training enabled him to move swiftly and without sound… but staying in one spot seemed ill-advised at this moment.

The ghost was obviously more than just a substanceless apparition. She had the power to affect the environment. The chameleon twitched; cautious, poised, he was ready for whatever she would throw at him.

He resisted the urge to reply to her goading. He wasn’t going to reveal his position by uttering a sound.

"Run, run, run, lizard!" Bow laughed, then paused. "Hey, where'd he go?" This was strange; the chameleon had disappeared. Certainly he hadn't found a way out already?

"Hey, come out! We're not done playing with you yet!"

So the man wasn’t easily frightened. Even the brave Mario got scared with the chandelier prank. This was going to be tough. No matter, there were plenty of other tricks she had up her sleeve.

With each step he took, the old floor boards of the mansion creaked under his weight. The moment he stepped on the rug, the floorboards fell through, leading down to what appeared to be a bottomless pit below.

At this, Robotnik’s eyes widened slightly and he wobbled about, trying to keep his balance… it was rather hilarious to watch in all frankness; like witnessing a whale attempting to be graceful on land. Looking around warily, Robotnik decided not to leave things to chance; with a thought, he managed to activate the jet thrusters in his boots, and softly glided across to the rest of the room; though now, he was slightly on edge. He didn’t appreciate the idea that the spirits of this house might in fact be able to control the house to such an extent… and though they hadn’t been reported to honestly kill people, he had a tendency to bring that out in people. A bit of caution was prudent.

The doors were sealed shut— almost as if by magic. As he inspected the door, the ceiling just above him began to creak. Suddenly, a large piano fell through from the second floor and looked like it would crash right down on Espio if he didn’t move.

Espio did not hear the ominous creak in the ceiling overhead. He did however hear the crashing of the piano and felt its vibration through the structure. He may have been close to deaf, but you’d have to be completely Deaf to miss that.

Glancing up, the chameleon witnessed with alarm the shadowy falling toward him, and impulsively leapt onto the wall, clinging to it with splayed limbs, poised and ready to leap again.

He took a deep breath and managed to get his breathing under control.
