"That's life."
That moment when you least expect for something awesome to happen in your day, and it happens. I'd been craving bobba tea for more than a week but kept delaying going to buy some. Finally decided to go today before going to school. While waiting in line, a tall, thin, casually-dressed man turned to me with a huge smile and busted out in conversation. (His neon nike shoes were fantastic, btw.) He introduced himself as Todd, and I responded, "I'm B. Nice to meet you." "Oh, B for Beatrice?" He questioned. I responded, "B for Berenice," and he quickly repeated it. "That's beautiful. Why don't you go by that?" He asked with a concerned look and soft smile on his face. "Uhhhh," I started with a huge, yet shy, smile, "Well, it's a difficult name for many people to say." His demeanor completely relaxed but became more passionate, in a way. "You should say your whole name. Don't ever shorten yourself for anybody. If they love and care about you, they'll say the entire thing. They'll go the entire way," said Todd. The man that was at first only tall, thin, casually-dressed, was slowly showing himself to be tall in joy, thin in minimization, casual in conversation, and overall as bright of a person as his neon Nike shoes. There was tremendous (yet not overwhelming) essence in the rest of the conversation, also... After we had already said "Goodbye," Todd returned to the restaurant and walked in my direction while cleaning a CD with his shirt. "Look, this is the CD. I couldn't remember how to spell the last name," and chuckled. "Oh! Thank you so much, let me go ahead and write it down before I forget," I said. "No, this is your copy! This is for you!" He replied, again with the huge, genuine smile like the one that initiated our conversation. "Wow! Thank you so much, Todd! This is so nice of you," I said, completely in awe and delighted. "You're so welcome, of course! This is part of giving, that's life." Other than my father, I had never encountered another human who explicitly uses this phrase positively. It's true. This is life. And its complexity is both marvelous and wondrous. The conversation with Todd has been resonating in my mind ever since that I will definitely have to write about it at another time, but his positive reference of, "That's life," impacted me soooooo much... Who would've thought bobba tea could get all the more delicious! :)
