I want Luka Modrić to know that he made me fall in love with football.

I liked it before I ever saw him, but I didn't love it until I saw him play. He did that. Not Messi, not Ronaldo, not Neymar. Luka Modrić. For the way he is so smart and elegant with the ball, for the way he never stops fighting, for how kind and humble he is.

He made me fall in love with a club I had never watched before, with a national team I had never rooted for before, he made me appreciate this sport in a way I hadn't before. He did that. I only wish I had noticed him sooner.

So if this is his last World Cup (I won't say for certain because he does defy the laws of physics), even though he leaves without a trophy, he is the winner of everything to me.
