"  what  do  you  think  ?  the  red  or  the  black  ?  "  aria  alternates  holding  up  two  tops  to  her  body's  reflection  in  the  mirror  ,  both  the  same  style  ,  but  the  two  color  options  alone  left  her  overwhelmed  by  choice  .  "  i  like  them  both  but  it's  meant  to  be  a  christmas  party  so  i  feel  like  maybe  i  should  go  for  the  red  ?  "  a  huff  pushes  past  her  lips  as  she  finally  turns  to  face  the  other  .  "  ugh  ,  this  is  impossible  .  .  .   should  i  just  get  both  ?  " ( @sere1ns )

         (    ↻    )    vivienne taps her index finger against her bottom lip as she observes both pieces that aria just presented her with.  “  hmm  …  ”  she hums lightly,  head tilting to the side.  “  i totally get what you mean like the red does scream christmas party but the black is a little more versatile and understated. i want to be an enabler and tell you to get both but how experimental are you feeling  ?  i think the red would look so good. and i think you could make it work outside a christmas party setting. red isn’t just reserved for the holidays,  y’know  ?  ”

          “ after thanksgiving, ” oze answers, taking a sip of his iced coffee while eyeing the tray of fudge samples. he’ll skip the sweets — for now. “ although my grandmother on my mom’s side used to gather all of us, you know, her grandchildren after thanksgiving dinner just so we’d take out her tree and we’d decorate it, ” he recalls, smiling fondly. “ it’s a wonderful tradition — still is. ” oze and his twin sister were no longer a staple at their grandmother’s thanksgiving gathering, not since both of them began their pro careers. “ when do you start putting up holiday décor? ” he asks avery, turning to look at them. “ does your family celebrate christmas? ”

         (    ↻    )    “  thank god. finally someone that’s thinking logically,  ”  avery lets out a dramatic sigh. they turn and face oze, listening intently to the young player.  “  that’s always fun. it really hits two birds with one stone. you get to visit grandma and she gets help putting up decorations. are you still able to continue that tradition  ?  ”  they’ll ask.  “  honestly,  i’m lucky if holiday decorations start going up on december first. time gets away from me way too quickly nowadays.  ”  ever since they’d taken up the position as the stormbreakers’ chief brand officer,  avery barely gets a moment to themselves. not that they’re complaining. they love this job.  “  my family’s not super big on christmas. we used to travel a lot. the joys of being in year-round sports. if it wasn’t for one of my track meets then it’d be something of my brother’s. we didn’t mind it though, we still spent time as a family. and at the end of the day, i think that’s what really matters,  y’know  ?  ”

a soft laugh fell from amaranth’s lips.   she shook her head,  amused by the truth in avery’s words.   she wasn’t completely opposed to people early decorating for christmas,  she loved the holiday,  but she also found quite funny how some of them,  as avery pointed out,  started putting up decorations in damn october.   " i think people should do what they want to do, "   a proper response,  the correct one.   however,  despite amaranth being a people pleaser,  she also had her opinions,  and she’d always been strong when voicing them,  especially if she trusted the person on the other end.   " but in my opinion,  i think october is crazy,  and christmas decorations should start after thanksgiving,  yes. "   at least,  that’s what she does in her home ( and forces,  along her brothers,  her mother to do too ).   " what about you ?  how do you do it and when ?  i’m excited about christmas,  i can’t lie. "

         (    ↻    )    she chuckles fondly along with amaranth. a soft smile surfaces on her lips.  “  no hate to the october folks. and you are right,  people should do what they want to do. free will and all that  !  it could be worse  !  in college,  i shared a dorm with someone who would start playing christmas music in MARCH. march  !?  unbelievable.  ”  she’ll let out a light huff.  “  see i don’t mind a whole nightmare before christmas situation. that’s cute. it falls between halloween and christmas.  ”  now avery isn’t a christmas decorations hater,  she just prefers that they don’t go up prematurely.  “  listen i’m lucky if i can manage to plan to start getting decorations up on december first,  ”  she’ll readily admit.  “  decorations are for sure an after thanksgiving thing. at the stormbreakers,  we coordinate it so that decorations are up by december first. so i can’t lie,  i get into the spirit too.  ”

“oh, please don’t remind me,” leo groans, head rolling back ever so dramatically. holidays hadn’t been the same in, well, a while. and it wasn’t that he disliked them, no quite the opposite, but he simply wasn’t prepared. at least, that was the excuse he fed himself to explain why twinkling lights and red ribbons on every door no longer sparked that warm, familiar joy. leo should feel excited to play santa for the two-year-old who followed his every footstep, but he wasn’t there yet. eyes watch as avery snags a slice of fudge and he clambers for one as well, sighing happily as the chocolate melts on his tongue. “i used to be a decorations before thanksgiving guy,” he explains, a grin pulling on the corners of his lips, “but i simply don’t have the time nowadays.” his brows knit together as he gives them a theatrically defeated look, “have i officially lost all whimsy, avery?”

         (    ↻    )    avery lets out a laugh at leo’s reaction. the holidays were never a super huge thing in the yang household. most of the time,  it was spent traveling due to the year-round sports each of the yang children were involved with.  why spend the time decorating if you weren’t going to be home to appreciate it  ?  now that their life doesn’t involve traveling as extensively as they used to, they’ve gotten into the habit of decorating for the holidays. but as such,  they stood firm on waiting until after thanksgiving. it’s the principle of the thing  !  “  nah,  i don’t think you’ve officially lost all whimsy. maybe just some  ?  i think it can be recovered. besides,  so long as your decorations make it up before christmas then is it really losing your whimsy  ?  ”

❝ i'm honestly not the one to talk to this about . . . my tree has been up since november 1st . ❞ praew responds honestly , shrugging her shoulders . eyes follow the other's around the shops , taking in all the decorations that looked much like her house . ❝ my mother always use to put the decor up before the month started , and i just continue that tradition here in america . why are you so against it ? ❞ she asks softly , head cocking to the side as she too plucks a piece of fudge from the tray .

         (    ↻    )    avery responds with an light shrug of her shoulders.  “  holiday fatigue,  i suppose,  ”  she muses.  “  don’t get me wrong,  i enjoy the christmas decorations but october to december feels like we’re just jumping from holiday to holiday. at least with thanksgiving in the middle,  it feels like we get a break from the decorations. even if it only lasts for a week or so. plus,  i really don’t need a reminder of how quickly the end of the year is coming. feels like there’s just so much to do with so little time,  y’know  ?  ”

cosima leans back slightly, a small smile tugging at the corners of her mouth as she watches avery savor the fudge. she tilts her head thoughtfully. “hmm…” she says, tapping a finger against her lips. “i think it depends on the vibe you’re going for. before thanksgiving can feel… a little early, like you’re rushing the season. but after feels more natural—like you’ve properly celebrated one holiday before diving into the next. though i’ll admit, there’s something kind of charming about people who start early. they just really love the sparkle, you know?” she laughs softly, eyes scanning the storefronts too. “i guess i’d personally wait until after thanksgiving, but i can appreciate the enthusiasm of the october decorators. they’re just… overachievers in holiday joy.”

         (    ↻    )    “  before thanksgiving feels like capitalism is heavily influencing one’s decisions,  ”  avery can’t help but sarcastically comment.  “  like have you seen how some places started to put up christmas decorations the minute HALLOWEEN is over  ?  ”  she’ll shake her head in dismay.  “  but i guess people just love the sparkle. can’t blame them either. seattle gives like the perfect weather to just stay curled up in bed,  ”  she concedes.  “  i suppose so,  what would life be like without the overachievers in holiday joy  ?  although,  i do draw the line at playing christmas music that early.  ”

papers and ribbons rested on the little counter behind the numerous flowers amaranth had organized on the front of her little stall,  she was ready to start working on whatever her current customer's order was,  eager to give them her best service.   " so,  what are you looking for ?  is it for a lover,  a loved one,  for your home ? "   she asked,  her enthusiasm successfully concealed behind her sweet,  soft tone.   " i wanna give you the perfect arrangement,  so the more the details,  the better.   don’t hold back on me. "

         (    ↻    )    light laughter expels past her lips as she shakes her head.  “  no lover,  unfortunately. but i am thinking of sprucing up the home a little bit.  ”  vivienne ventures deeper into the cozy shop. eyes stare up in wonder at the selection of flowers on display for the day.  “  has there been an arrangement that you’ve been meaning to try out  ?  if so,  feel free to go at it. i don’t mind a little experimenting. i’m sure i’ll LOVE whatever you put together.  ”

vivienne okoro is born the youngest daughter to a prestigious family in new york city. she grew up surrounded by wealth but starved of parental presence. her achievements were routinely eclipsed by her older siblings despite her constant pursuit of approval. and despite the lack of parental presence and being raised more by staff and her siblings, she still followed the path that was laid out for her: excelling academically, majoring in finance, etc. but a spark struck during her first year at columbia when she discovers the field of journalism. it’s a industry untouched by her family. and as such it led to disapproval from her parents and pushed her further away. despite all that, vivienne thrives and carves a place for herself within the world of financial journalism. she’s earned her spots through coveted internships at major publications before finally joining the wall street journal and earning a master’s in finance. yet, the weight of her family’s name continues to shadow over her accomplishments. and when opportunity came knocking, she seized it to make a fresh start in seattle where she’s now a senior financial journalist at the seattle tribune and picked up a position as an adjunct professor at the university of washington

a plant mom.  has a good amount of plants that she takes care of in her home. it started off as a coping mechanism but has now turned into a full blown hobby of hers

big on trivia nights.  has been the reigning champ at one of downtown seattle’s bars. will probably try to rope you in and join her team if you’re one of her friends

loves a good sweet treat.  can often be found trying out different cafes and bakeries around seattle and making a list of top spots for herself 

kind of a seattleite.  has been living in seattle for a couple years now. not enough to call herself a true seattleite but enough to know some of the ins and outs like the locals

(  tw: mentions of death  &  injury  )    avery yang grew up as the middle child and only daughter of a sports-obsessed family in seattle. they’re raised by a former collegiate athlete turned sports orthopedic surgeon for a father and a former thai national basketball player for a mother. so really, it’s no surprise. they’ve carved a path for themselves as a track and field athlete and became a prodigy. she competes in the junior olympics at 15 and enters the university of washington as a highly sought-after recruit. the yangs have gone through some changes like unexpectedly coming into newfound wealth after inheriting a dead and distant relative’s fortune which then lead them to purchase the struggling seattle stormbreakers. just as there are good things, there are also its misfortunes. avery’s athletic trajectory is cut short due to a devastating acl tear. it ends all hopes and dreams for the olympic hopeful. and after grieving, the former athlete channels their love of sports into a new direction and ultimately returns home as the stormbreakers’ chief brand officer. avery becomes the driving force behind the team’s ambitious rebuild.

big on being outdoors.  can often be found hiking different trails in washington and has traveled to different states to hike

a marathon runner.  while her track career came to a close while in college due to their injury, the extensive amount of physical therapy she went through had her back on her feet in no time

a dog parent.  has a brown labrador retriever named teddy that goes hiking with her and on the occasional short distance runs

         (    ↻    )    she lets out a soft hum as she walks up beside cosima.  “  i’m of no help when i say that they all look really appealing,  ”  vivi replies, light laughter expelling past the journalist’s lips.  she takes another look at the array of designs spread out. a manicured nail taps against one of the designs to her left.  “  this one might be a good contender. but that depends. my design expertise is also limited to newspaper layouts. is this supposed to be something seasonal  ?  ”

        (    ↻    )    “  i can’t believe the holidays are just creeping up on us.  ”  avery comments. eyes catch the various holiday decorations peeking out from various storefronts, no doubt ready to go up as soon as thanksgiving passes. they pluck a sample of fudge from the tray and plop it into their mouth.  “  although, i guess i should be glad that christmas decorations aren’t up just yet. i don’t know if i could take it. but i have friends who set up their christmas trees in october. what are your thoughts  ?  christmas decorations should go up before thanksgiving or after  ?  ”
