let me say this because lots of folks don’t know much about lgbt history and I’m already seeing discourse. it wasn’t until post world war II (post 1945) that the idea of being gay as something a person is or isn’t was born (born out of military policies for the war). during the 1950s there was strong campaigns to tie gay men with being predators which pushed society even more towards gay or not gay. all this to say, when you watch My Policeman please keep this in mind. specifically, that there were virtually no spaces and or even language sometimes at this point for gay people to understand themselves. wondering whether tom’s character is “bi” or “gay” is a historically inaccurate question to ask that can’t be answered. you are looking at a 1950s man who, most likely than not, would not process this question like we do today. wasting time on this misses the entire complexity of tom’s situation.

Harry’s latest comment “Tom’s love for Marion is real. Tom’s love for Patrick is real” touches on this exact complexity !!! I am so happy he understands this.
