this is creepy, right?
he's after me! he's got a knife!
the worst part is: you teach a class about slashers, and you still walked into a dark alley. alone.
[name] wouldn't be caught dead at a frat party.
get me a drink!
we said we wouldn't use the voice modulator on each other.
it was even better than we ever even imagined.
is that why you killed her? because she gave you a c-?
come on, [name]. how long have we known each other?
why are you fucking with me?
you know what? this is stupid.
what i'm really worried about is [name].
every time i push you for specifics, you shut down.
i have trust issues.
my father was a famous serial killer. they made a movie about him.
last year i found out that my boyfriend was also a serial killer.
i stabbed him 22 times and slit his throat, and then shot him in the head. that's not why i'm here.
it felt... right.
i'm not equipped to deal with this kind of thing.
by law, i'm required to report this to the authorities.
who the fuck is [name]?!
she went to the omega kappa beta party.
i cannot speak to how heavily armed [name] is at this fraternity party.
it doesn't bother you? being at a house party after you were almost brutally murdered at a house party?
i guess i should stay close to you, then.
why don't you get your fucking hands off her?
i'm just gonna tase you in the balls real quick.
don't ever lay hands on my sister.
are you fucking kidding me?
you embarrassed me!
if i wanna hook up with an asshole, that's my decision!
you're not dealing with what happened to us!
i'm uninterested in living in the past like you are.
so you're just gonna pretend like it never happened?
i'm just trying to look out for you.
you can't do it for the rest of my life, though. you have to let me go.
i think you're really special.
did i cockblock you?
please stop saying the word cock.
i can't help but notice you're covered in cherry coke.
being famous isn't all it's cracked up to be.
the last two people who fucked with us ended up dead.
do you have alibis for earlier tonight?
i met [name] at that party. where i tased someone. unrelated.
i take a special interest in ghostface attacks...
we share a certain history...
do you think you're the reason the ghostface killer has come to the big apple?
stay away from us.
are you really still mad at me?
i heard you couldn't sell the movie rights.
you called me unstable and a born killer.
maybe you're just afraid that without ghostface in your life, you're gonna fade away.
what's a requel?
you're beautiful, sweetie. hold all questions until the end.
am i gonna die a virgin?
that was a weird overshare...
why am i on the suspect list?
the slutty roommate: a horror movie classic.
never trust the love interest.
what if the trauma you all went through made one, or more, of you snap?
that's pretty messed up.
it's like he's leaving us real-life franchise easter eggs.
it's like he's counting down to something.
forget about the movies; the movies don't matter.
did you just give us a nickname?
you can't just give yourself a nickname, dingus.
we have all been through some really fucked up stuff and we are all coping with it differently.
we're a team.
i've been sleeping with cute boy from across the hall.
i freaking knew it! i knew it, i knew it, i knew it!
yeah, she's my roommate, but you're, like, the police.
she's really freaked out.
oh, fuck, that guy's dead!
say something more positive!
you fuck with my family, you die.
sorry i punched you...
when did they start letting children into the fbi?
you look like a zygote.
i'm just really good at my job. you'll get there.
it's not just a theater, it's a shrine.
how did they get all this? isn't this evidence?
i had a crush on corey feldman...
okay. game recognize game.
when do i get to be a normal person again?
my parents suck to. you can still make your own family.
technically i did die. four minutes.
when i recovered, i got mad. i didn't want to spend the rest of my life being afraid of monsters. i wanted the monsters to be afraid of me.
bitch, last time i saw you, you were in glee club.
did you really think we were gonna steal a police car and not use the sirens?
that's a cop car! you can't steal a cop car!
spoiler alert: it never works out for the dipshit in the mask.
i'm scared.
i'll just give myself up. if this is what i have to do to keep you safe, it's worth it.
none of us would even be alive if it weren't for you.
he's gonna keep coming after us.
we want to lure him to a secure location and lure him inside.
and then we execute him. are you gonna help us?
let's kill the son of a bitch.
god damn it, i got it wrong again. what the fuck?
fuck this franchise.
don't trust anyone, remember?
you're not woodsboro. i'm sorry.
i cleared the whole place before you got here.
we turned it into a kill box.
we're safe here.
grab a weapon and clear this place yourself.
[name] has been on a downward spiral since the woodsboro murders last year.
they fired [name] two months ago for being mentally unstable. they're no longer with the fbi.
it's [name], they're the killer!
smile for the camera, motherfucker!
"dying" was a good way to get off the suspect list.
i got stu macher's mask. he was my favorite.
this is what we've been counting down to, [name].
fuck you!
i didn't commit those murders in woodsboro!
all the best lies are based on the truth.
there's the fucking killer.
we had to kill those two wannabe film students, because, well, we had to kill you first.
he was so pathetic.
looks like you're down another sibling.
always gotta shoot 'em in the head.
what's your favorite scary movie? i'm asking because you're in one now.
you're in my movie.
my father was a murderer. no matter what you think, i'm better than that.
i promise you i'm going to get so much therapy after this.
i don’t think my VIGOROUS CAUTION could’ve prepared me for what i am seeing. yes, i wanted him dead, yes, i MIGHT’VE expressed this seldomly to mac … but to see her standing knife in hand ⸻ ❛ i’m not upset with you, ❜ actually, i feel as though i could breathe fire, ❛ but WHAT THE FUCK happened in here? ❜
girl - rage is such a powerful , beautiful thing . the sheer ability to see pure red , to lose it for just a moment and act on impulse , only the regain that consciousness that causes her lip to quiver . mac’s just a victim , a delicate thing put into an impossible situation . the knife visibly shakes between fingers stained with sticky , crimson - colored blood , ragged breath sucked violently into her lungs and swallowed whole to stop the bitter sting of crocodile tears from streaming down her cheeks . “ he was going to hurt you . . . said that you should be locked up . . . ” google translate english to psychopathic liar - he pissed me off .
my ears perk at your mentioning of hill house — maybe you are the expert. i meet your eyes with a shrug, my fingers CARESSING the pages of a book i’m about to deposit on the shelf. ❛ come on, mary shelley didn’t HANG AROUND AT HER MOTHER’S GRAVE for you to critique frankenstein so harshly ! ❜ it’s a favorite of mine, if that wasn’t apparent. ❛ however, jackson’s work is still haunting us, decades later. ❜ cut to the chase, joe. ❛ sorry, here i am talking your ear off about horror and i haven’t even introduced myself. joe, ❜ is my hand too calloused? i extend it to yours to invite a greeting.
“ now i never said she was anything but phenomenal - just that i’m not in advanced lit 100 anymore. ” didn’t mean she didn’t have a hardback limited edition copy, embossed cover and all, tucked neatly away on her shelf at home. it was still a classic. his pun and introduction are acknowledged with the slow shake of her head, chestnut locks swaying softly against her shoulders. “ i could read that much. ” her delicate finger points gently at his nametag, crimson polish reflected back at her by its metal. offered hand is left untouched, instead, mac places the hunger into his outstretched palm, her own fingers lingering until it’s secure in his grip. “ i think you’ll like this one, joe. ” it’s customary now, to keep her name to herself - people abused that knowledge. why she doesn’t return the introduction. a single whiff of being tied to murder and suddenly those dirty details are all you’re good for. “ no shelley, or jackson for that matter but, still worth a read. ”
( you’re teasing me back — good. but what if my recommendations aren’t good enough for your taste? no, there’s no way. I AM THE EXPERT. ) ❛ i’m sure you have read these already, but dracula, interview with the vampire, SPECIFICALLY frankenstein, are all good classic starts. if you’d prefer something unheard of, then i’d recommend the terror. fascinating historical fiction about the franklin expedition that went missing. ❜ he lowers his arms from the shelf, crossing them as he inspects her. ❛ are those ADEQUATE? do you have any for me? ❜
“ you’re not really recommending high school literature to me, are you? ” she’s only teasing, it’s clear in the warmth of her grin. at least he can appreciate the classics. though they’re nothing new in the world of a horror buff - stu always preferred the movies, but the books had been mac’s favorite. “ historical fiction isn’t quite my cup of tea. ” attention drifts to the aisle beside them - thriller/suspense - they never liked to label anything as horror, anymore. it’s influencing the kids! frame slips around the corner, a polished fingertip treading lightly over the row of novels before her, soft hum vibrating against her lips. “ depends on what you’re looking for . . . shirley jackson makes terror feel familiar and beautiful with hill house. the other, by thomas tryon if you want something to mess with your head . . . ” what she searched for now finally found, the paperback is slid gently from it’s confines to then be held out his way. his move. “ for you, mister historical fiction - the hunger, by alma katsu. donner party meets ghost story. ”
mac gained two prominent scars by the end of the ‘97 murders. one at the base of her neck where her throat was slit, and a large scar on her left shoulder, a result of a stab wound and subsequent repair surgery. both are rather large and noticeable, hued in deep purples and reds while they’re fresh, and faded into lilacs and pinks the older she got. however, they never fade completely. the shoulder scar is covered in most shirts and is brushed off as a surgery scar to anyone who asks. the scar on her throat is far harder to hide. it’s the reason mac’s hair is never pulled up and she prefers chunky sweaters and high necklines whenever she can get away with wearing them.
( look at you. you’ve been through a lot, that much i could tell. i’m not sure if you’re new to the area, but i’ve been seeing you so much more lately. it didn’t take long to do much digging, you’re practically famous, and god, that’s tragic. the weight of the world is on your shoulders, much like mine. you and i… we have so much in common. ) ❛ if you want a good horror novel, i have loads i could recommend that aren’t stephen king. ❜ joe wonders if that is TOO FORWARD, but perhaps a nudge in the right direction. he’s stocking a shelf that’s an isle across from her, sleeved rolled just below his elbows.
“ a bit presumptuous, no? ” brow quirks, the corners of her mouth ticked upward in a familiar smirk as serene blue orbs settle on the stranger across the aisle. “ to assume i’m looking for horror, you know, just because . . . i’m eye level with tolstoy, not koontz. ” because everyone recognized the face of the killer - boy’s baby sister, the next one’s daughter, the sole survivor of a familial massacre. so it seemed. “ and maybe i like steven king. ” she did, in junior high. tastes have become a bit more refined since then, her thirst for something scary much harder to quench after wielding a blade herself. regardless, mac bites, petite frame turned to give her full attention to the other with an expectant gaze “ go on then, let’s hear them. ”
let me be clear - mac didn’t partake in the 96 murders, she never put on the mask, and never hurt a soul. she was only an alibi to the boys, a secret keeper who would corroborate their stories as rehearsed whenever necessary. she planted seeds of doubt whenever possible just to add to the chaos. she’d be charged with aiding and abetting and lying to the police if it ever came down to it. she never killed as much as a bug until 97, when her mental break caused her to foster up her own revenge plan. even in this instance, a strong case could be made that she was criminally insane at the time of the murders, with no paper trail of her plotting, it’s hard to prove they were planned due to the very erratic nature in which most of the victims were killed.
all that said, she is not in the slightest bit guilt free, her involvement was not a victimless one - she is fucked up, has grown up in a neglectful home where she was exposed to brutal shit via movies/television at a way too young age. mac was consuming literature that was wildly inappropriate for as long as she can remember. billy and stu’s plan didnt scare her, it excited her. she was honestly just better at not getting caught (and that’s on being a fucking smart bitch), and didn’t get wrapped up in the finale because stu took extensive measures to avoid so.
so I’ve made it clear that Mac has never worn the mask for any of her killings, and she shits on copycats who do bc, well, real original fuckface. to her that’s a right that only billy and stu had BUT with scream five insinuating what it has, she absolutely would wear stus mask for the sole purpose of killing off Sidney Prescott. a final act of revenge, if you will.
Mac is virtually unafraid of copycats/ghostfaces. she was raised by one of the originals and the only of the entire franchise that didn’t have any sort of motive. clearly there’s something in their blood that makes erratic, unhinged behavior the norm. the casualty of stus involvement and killing spree translated near perfectly onto her and so copycats? a joke, and they’d be damned to try and fuck around with the only bitch who PULLED HER MURDERS OFF and did them all with her face showing.
