When I was in college, my Stage Craft teacher showed us this. Basically the machine heats up a sheet of plastic, and once it’s malleable enough it’ll be blown up to make room for whatever you want to imprint in the plastic. Once it’s in place, the air reverses and the plastic vacuum-sucks all around the object.

He demonstrated it on a baby doll and it was like a baby had been frozen in carbonite. I got to take it home and I still have frozen-carbonite-baby to this day (his name is Franklin XD)

#we did this for stop motion puppets as well #after you sculpt the face you cast it in silicon to make copies of it that are hollow #so the heads arent too heavy for the body #and from one of those head copies we vacuum sealed sheets of plastic to the faces #to cut out replacable eyelids eyebrows and mouths that fit perfectly flush to the final painted face #we basically used a tiny version of that machine and you sat there for like 3-5 minutes #waiting for that huge plastic bubble to form and then frantically slam the lever down and turn on the vacuum #super fun
