Ok to be fair tho all of us know at least one story about the idiot who got hypothermia from wearing cotton when the weather suddenly turned, got heatstroke from not carrying enough water, turned an ankle and had to be carried out cause they walked into a scree field wearing chucks, etc.
Nobody should be given shit for being a beginner but sometimes part of being a beginner is not knowing about every eventuality you might encounter ahead of time. It’s not necessarily dumb to over-prepare, and you shouldn’t take for granted that you’re in a totally safe situation just because the survival rate for five year olds there is average.
Man, i live in Switzerland, what sport do you think kills more people each year, chucking yourself down a mountain at breakneck speeds or going for a hike?
