Serge Garcia is a simple man. He has a simple life, with a simple house, and simple needs. He has a partner, but he lives alone. He enjoys routine and order and never felt the urge to go on adventures or anything troublesome. He is a teacher. He has responsibilities.

Can’t fuck up, for god’s sake, Serge, don’t fuck up don’t fuck up-

But John Bon hasn’t showed up to his class for a few days now. He calls his parents, out of habit, to be sure he was fine, to let them know he wasn’t at school. It was his role as a teacher. His mother is the one to answer, and when he tells her, all he hears is a gasp, a sigh, and what could have been a sob. He isn’t sure. She informs him she’ll send a letter to the headmaster to explain. She says goodbye, then hangs up. The day after, John is back. He looks like shit. Tired, his mind drifting elsewhere, his nails dirty and his clothes stained and torn in some places. Serge stutters a few times, having a hard time focusing on how tragic Mercutio’s death is when one of his student seems to have some fucking troubles too, realer than some f- fictional character’s.

After the last class of the day, Serge says goodbye to his students and leaves. He stays in his car for quite a while, waiting for John to come out. When he sees him, he drives and follows him close. “John! Hello again.” “Oh. Hello, sir,” he answers. He seems better. More alert. “I noticed we were heading in the same direction and I would like to talk to you. Can I give you a ride?”

Serge Garcia, 42, litterature teacher. He is a huge nerd about his job, especially theater. What he likes to do is to impress the students by talking in the most poetic and charming way, but he has no manner whatsoever in private and swears every 5 words. He’s insecure. It makes him feel stronger.

John Bon, 20, is one of his students. He is brillant and very promising, but he keeps skipping classes every now and then. He’s bipolar. Sometimes, in the middle of a lecture, he will fall into his lethargic state, as he calls it. Serge is worried about him.

One day, after class, Serge offers him a ride home.
