New Kunlun Bestiary - #9. Ji

One of the Ten Sols in the Council and keeper of the Grotto of Scriptures. Ji is a mysterious immortal being and an ancient resident of Kunlun who seems to have been present throughout all of solarian history.

Ji often observed the world as a bystander, following the rise and ultimate demise of countless great individuals over the centuries. These experiences made him deeply envious of those who ended their lives spectacularly and sparked a yearning in him for his own magnificent curtain call.

Class: Sol

Of all the sols I've chased down to confront, perhaps none have made such a personal impression on me as Ji. At the end of the day, Ji seemed to welcome his fate. He had lived for millenia as a fluke of nature, or perhaps some incarnation of the Tao. He has seen more than many could comprehend. And now, at the end of it all, he faces an eternity of loneliness - or death at my claws. Of course he would chose the latter. His life has now obtained completion, finally becoming whole within the scope of history.

And yet, he choose, before that, to take up arms against me. Because of his trust in fate, in his visions, in the Tao? Or perhaps to have one final moment of connection, in the most appropriate way at the time, before it all faded away? I don't know. Perhaps I never will.

I could talk about the way Ji fought - his expert command of mystical arts combined with his unique and innovative use of divination to keep his next moves unpredictable - but ultimately the thing that I will remember most about Ji was the person that he was and the marks he left upon the world.
