I am a proud transmasc & gay bear/butch knight and keeper of my Prince's estate, and serve him with ever-detailed care... though, what happens away from prying eyes, is certainly allowable in the eyes of the crown as long as I serve My Liege diligently ✨️

I am a service switch, with a heavy bottom lean. Brummbär stands at a solid 5'6-5'7 when in human form, He's built like a whisky barrel. In bear-mode, he's usually around 10ft tall, and still notably wide -- He'd love to be an active fat bear week participant, if he could drop the weight in his bear form, that is.

After the prior day's... impassioned activities, Seneschal Brummbär decided to sit the masquerade out. He still wore his fineries, a heavily embroidered vest atop a loose wool tunic, all trimmed with fur. It was the only set of clean clothes he had left, after all.

Regardless, he had to keep an eye on his Prince, looming in the doorways as Percival danced with partygoers. It was strange, being so far away, but any closer into the crowd felt wrong. He couldn't risk being a threat to anyone.

He had circled the ballroom via halls for what felt like hours before he was stopped -- his focus, still set on his duty to watch his Liege, was interrupted instantaneously when he bumped into you, literally.

"Sheiße -- I didn't see you there..."

He thought for a moment, before following up

"Ah... please forgive my language."

The person he’d bumped into smiled awkwardly, a hand on Seneschal Brummbär’s elbow to steady themself. He had… never seen this person before. They were certainly smaller than him. “Ah, no worries! No harm done.” Their voice had an odd lilting quality to it when they spoke. “And no need to worry about your language. I can assure you I’ve heard worse.”

They looked slightly… off. Their eyes were (well the first thing he noticed was that they were different colors, but that wasn’t unheard of) slightly too color saturated. And they were not dressed nicely enough to be an attendee, though their hair had been braided into a crown, so some effort had been made.

He realized they had been rambling while he was taking stock of them. “-… and I was so lost in thought I wasn’t watching where I was going, so it was probably my fault anyways-“

The seneschal chuckled, tapping his nose to show he related. Wait -- where were his manners?

He took a bow, lowering his head more than anything -- he didn't know this person's rank, but he wasn't about to be disrespectful... though, their appearance was striking. He should use his words carefully.

"I am Brummbär, Seneschal of Freehold... may I have your name?"

Brummbär tried to say the last bit casually - he had learned much of Percival's Faer folk and their penchant for precise wording... if nothing else, it taught him how to be even wiser with his words. If they didn't pick up? Then he was to move forwards normally. If they declined?... well, he then knew exactly why their appearance was so.

The stranger stiffened, then relaxed- though it was clearly a conscious effort to do so. “Well met. Youre welcome to call me Vel.”

The stranger- Vel- took a step back, and withdrawing sharply. “I don’t believe I’ve seen you around, Seneschal. Did you come here with a large party?”Their eyes were wary. And even brighter, though the color and luminance wasn’t yet leaving the realm of what draw attention from a distance.

Brummbär's smile grew at their response - he always loves coming to understand the rules that others abide by. The tension was noticeable, he thought, so he needed to stop pressing.

...On the other hand, those he spoke to tended to hate being understood quite so deeply. He spoke, his tone warmer and softer than before.

"Just myself and My Liege, as far as our fellow partygoers are concerned. I'm to keep watch of him -- Don't worry about my time, though, we did bring others along to help me keep watch. And yourself?"

Vel’s face was ashen by the time Brummbär stopped speaking. They swallowed with an audible click. “I arrived alone, though I have made several… acquaintances since then. Ones that are expecting to see me again.”

Their hand drifts up to a pendant around their neck. It was shaking as they lifted it. Their whole body was a live wire of tension. It is then that Brummbär begins to realize… this person is terrified.

Regardless of whether or not they’re one of the faer folk- they are afraid. And in this moment they are afraid of him.

"Ah... I see I've done something to displease you, that wasn't my intention -- I can leave you be, if you want?"

The Seneschal tensed, racking his brain for what he'd done to cause this -- it had to be him, Vel wasn't acting this way beforehand.

"I didn't intend to disturb you, I'm sorry for what I've done--"

Vel’s eyes rake over him, a small frown creasing the space between their brows. “I... No… I just…”

They took a slow breath, though their eyes never left him. “I believe we have had… a misunderstanding. I hope it is a misunderstanding.” Their eyes flash, intense and wild- more the hazel one than the green somehow- and for a split second, Brummbär inexplicably felt like he was looking at a cornered fox.

“Let us be clear now.” Their hand drifts beneath their cloak. “Do you serve the Fair Ones?”

Brummbär paused, before bursting into loud, raucous laughter -- that was not what he expected. Sure, they probably had some sort of knife to cut him if he responded wrong, but he'd completely misunderstood their conversation. That alone was enough to get him started.

"No -- aha, I do not. I'm sworn to Prince Percival of Freehold, whose father is completely human. Last I checked, at least. This was certainly a misunderstanding."

The Seneschal chuckled once more, getting it out of his system. He felt pretty good about his chances of being unharmed.

He went pale at the sound of Perroy's voice, making his own recovery to not freeze up -- or worse, book it and leave. He feared more consequences, or something else... the Adviser always had an aura about him that intimidated Brummbär to no end.

"Well met -- I don't mind at all, Adviser. What can I do to assist you?"

In contrast, Brummbär gave a warm smile, bowing his head in greeting. It gave away that he respected Perroy, but that was no insult.

"In truth I mainly wished to know how you were," he said, lowering his voice ever so slightly. "I know that the outcome of the Hunt was not... ideal. But I do hope that you know it wasn't personal. Had you been injured similarly I would have meted out similar consequences to whoever had caused it. But I am aware that Sir Errant does not blame you, and I do not consider this to have been malicious. Your disqualification was purely a matter of wishing to avoid setting a precedent."

He studied him. "... and with that said, I hope you will return to compete next year. An honourable return to form to no doubt claim your winning spot. This time with... prior warning of certain risks."

The Seneschal wasn't unused to tough conversations, especially about upholding rules or having to write them in blood, but was vastly unprepared to be on this side of the conversation -- let alone at this register.

"Of course -- As long as I know I'm safe to do so. The event itself was wonderful - the grounds are perfect for this sort of thing, you know?"

Speaking of... you have meticulously planned this event, Adviser. I'm impressed with all you've done, especially the grace you've had with the Baron's absence... Now that I'm reminded, I did have a question for you."

Checking himself, The Seneschal cleared his throat and changed his expression back to one of far better grace, a smile without teeth, and continued.

"...What is the plan for after this, exactly? I've heard rumors of an oncoming army... I'd imagine a bear to be a boon against the undead, if you'll have me."

Perroy narrowed his eyes, nodding slowly. "I can see how that would be a boon, indeed," he said, thoughtful. "I would report to Ser Bec, of the Knight Protective Services. They have been the one largely occupied with the efforts against the army, and I don't doubt they could do with another reliable hand. Or... paw. I suppose."

He slipped a notebook from his sleeve, scribbling down an address and holding it out to the Seneschal. "She can be found here, hopefully."

He pulled out a leather flask, uncorking it and taking a gulp. The liquid luck, clove mead, was meant for the party, but he wasn't exactly misusing it here. Afterwards, he held it out to The Adviser

"...Care for a drink? It's nothing special, just mead."

Regardless, he had to keep an eye on his Prince, looming in the doorways as Percival danced with partygoers. It was strange, being so far away, but any closer into the crowd felt wrong. He couldn't risk being a threat to anyone.

He had circled the ballroom via halls for what felt like hours before he was stopped -- his focus, still set on his duty to watch his Liege, was interrupted instantaneously when he bumped into you, literally.

They looked slightly… off. Their eyes were (well the first thing he noticed was that they were different colors, but that wasn’t unheard of) slightly too color saturated. He realized they had been rambling while he was taking stock of them. “-… and I was so lost in thought I wasn’t watching where I was going, so it was probably my fault anyways-“
