he had remembered, of course, the actual potion that bella had asked him to brew for her. it was something simple for him, but ambiguous and complicated enough that there was a chance she had never seen it before. severus was about to start it -- truly, he was, he had purchased the ingredients and everything -- but the day found him particularly bored and he had decided to give the witch something special: elixir of euphoria. 

when she found him the very next day, giggling as she threatened his life, he couldn’t help but laugh along and sarcastically reply to her:

“was that not what you wanted? whoops. sorry bella.”

there were a lot of people at this ball that severus wasn’t fond of. in fact, his feelings for the majority of the room ranged from mild distaste to utter loathing -- and that included the various death eaters who looked down on him for his blood status. Blood status was the point, he supposed, eventually, but at this stage in the war loyalty needed to be formed from allegiance. And there was no pureblood in his allegiance that he respected more than bellatrix lestrange.

honestly, he’d go as far as saying that he liked bellatrix. to him, she had a sharp wit and a realness that was uncommon in people of her status. their friendship -- if he could even call it that, more like a solid acquaintanceship -- was fun for severus.

he had no qualms in approaching her, when they made eye contact from a few meters away, and spoke confidently. “having fun bella?” he couldn’t help but smirk as he finished off his drink. “i imagine any chance to show off is...well...pleasing for you.”

severus didn’t exactly hate remus lupin, he tried to save the word hate for people who actually deserved it and -- as much as he didn’t want to admit it -- lupin was not one of those people. that wasn’t to say that he liked the lycanthrope, far from it. ((actually, he secretly feared the boy still, a shiver ran its way up his spine when he thought of that “prank”)) but severus got pleasure in having something over him and made a mental note not to avoid him this evening.

when he finally caught lupin alone, seemingly abandoned by his friends for a moment, he couldn’t stop himself from walking up and starting something. “what are you here for lupin? open bar?” he raised his eyebrow in mock question and leaned closer, speaking lowly, to finish, “or to keep up the masquerade that your kind belongs here?”

severus rarely ran into lily after graduating hogwarts, despite exhaustive efforts on his part. he wouldn’t say that he stalked her, rather that he put himself in places that she might frequent and hoped beyond logic that he had chosen the correct place and time combination to find her. one day, when the sun was shining, he caught her at a muggle coffee shop completely alone.

he couldn’t go up to her casually in a place like this, not with how their relationship ended, not when all he could feel was the longing deep in his chest and the regret pulsing with every breath. mudblood. he was an idiot. more than that, scum, to say that word to his best friend. he would never regret anything more in his life. he watched her from a corner table until she got her drink and walked out before whispering aloud,

“i’m sorry.”

severus ducked stealthily into the leaky cauldron with his head down, in order to avoid anyone seeing him meeting one of those things here, in public. he eyed a table and doubled his pace to get to it, completely missing the chair being pulled out in his path, and stumbled over it. to his absolute horror, the glass bottle he had been trying to conceal broke open and showered the blonde at the table in wolfsbane.

“i-i’m sorry!” he forced out, taking a moment to mourn the potion he spent a lot of time of before finally looking up at his victim, narcissa. “my fault, entirely.” he glanced at the dress he’d ruined, knowing that he wouldn’t be able to replace it in his lifetime. “i’m so sorry.”

               — narcissa’s thoughts on one severus snape were not the highest. the young man, while being a key part of everything her family was fighting for, was not somebody she deemed trustworthy. his years-long friendship with the well-known muggleborn lily evans made her question his loyalty to the cause he was serving ( although she was in no place to question his allegiances when she was, at this point, unsure of her own ). lucius seemed to trust him, though, which meant she would have to as well. that wouldn’t make her feign excitement when he approached her, though. she did her best to smile, raising her flute of champagne to him before taking a small sip.

               — “ you look … well, severus. ” she would have gone with handsome, but she didn’t want to lie. “ are you enjoying the party so far ? ” a strand of blonde hair was soon tucked behind her ear by gloved fingers as she saw lucius standing only a few meters away. she would have to indulge this boy in conversation for his sake. “ the decor is simply lovely if you ask me. ”

severus promised himself that he would talk to someone at this thing, he would not just sulk in a corner. the dark lord had ordered him to forge an invitation to spy on future order members, not to look creepy all alone. he went to find lucius first -- a familiar face and a stiff drink would calm his nerves -- but on his way he spotted lily looking positively lovely. to prevent himself from staring like a fool he walked up quickly to the first person he could find: narcissa 

he sipped his drink as she started speaking, grateful for an excuse to down it, and ignored the uncomfortable pause as she searched for her words. his relationship with narcissa had never been particularly friendly but he could speak to her with minimal effort.

“i’ve never been exactly the type for these things, but i suppose it’s going well.” he looked around as she mentioned the decor, not sure how to comment appropriately or if it was odd for him not to have noticed before. “you look marvelous.”

intro

--Wands at the ready, SEVERUS SNAPE  has joined the fight! The EIGHTEEN  year old works as a POTIONEER but spends HIS time fighting for THE DEATH EATERS. SEVERUS is known to be BRILLIANT & LOYAL as well as AWKWARD & INSECURE

-- The above should probably be more specific, Sev’s insecure about most things, but not his intelligence. He’s an advanced student with a lot of talent and he knows it. In fact, he’s downright cocky about it.

-- NO ONE calls him Sev, not since Lily. ((secretly he’s still hoping that one day he hears it, in her sweet voice, calling from around a corner))

-- He didn’t want to study Potions, necessarily, he wanted to distance himself from his family as much as possible. When he realized that he had a knack for it, that he found confidence in the mastery, he gave up fighting and threw himself into the course.

--He’s really neat with his things. He’s not the cleanest guy, he’ll often neglect things like dusting and vacuuming to read / learn / brew a new potion.

--He’s not afraid to say that he hates his father, the feeling so viscerally real inside him that it’s become part of who he is, but he won’t explain why even if people would understand. He has a soft spot for his mother but he does not talk about it under any circumstances ever.
