What I’ve been working on. Not yet perfect, but enough that I can move on to other things for now.
Sorry for my absence! I’ll definitely make sure to at least let you guys know if I have to go on hiatus again!

It’s good to be back!
I added in object pooling for ‘effect’ type entities, which should ease the immense strain of running a pixel platformer on modern hardware. Effects can also loop now, which is demonstrated by a new effect that appears while falling! There’s probably even a lore reason for it!

Spawners for the training mode are in. Now I’ve just gotta make a proper level for them, plus some other stuff.
Also, ranking? I haven’t really fine tuned the values yet, and I doubt I’ll have a chance to before Demo Day hits, so I guess they will have to do for now. In fact, you could say that about pretty much everything that will be in the demo!

Menus for stuff. They’re not pretty yet, but with Demo Day a mere 2 days (!!!) away, I have to prioritize getting things working over making them look good. Oh well!

Right after I finish the maid outfit DLC, obviously!
New stuff! Gonna refine this some more (by adding a limit on how many times you can use it without hitting anything), but the aerial neutral slows your decent. I also fixed the alert ping showing up on unaware enemies that get killed in one hit, which isn’t shown in this webm.
Also, a new mech? This guy’s got a missile launcher or something, how about that. Not sure if I should go with one ‘eye’ or two, though. Also showing an alternate (grey) color scheme, in case I do anything with that)!
I may have very slightly doodled this, as well. Oops.
As usual, feel free to send me any feedback or suggestions that you have- let me know what you think! In the meantime, I’m gonna struggle with animating this for a bit.

Finally sorta kinda not even done with the flippy attack. I’ll draw the missing inbetween later, I’m just glad that it works (sorta).
Also shown is a new camera test, maybe it’s a little better? I’ll play with the values some more if this is something that people want.
Also attacks on unaware enemies do more damage now. That’s probably a thing that makes sense.

Due to some issues with the flippy attack animation, I opted to take a short break and put some of the attacks I’ve finished ingame. First up is the aerial+down attack, which I think turned out pretty well! All the attack handler code seems to be playing nice too, so that’s one less thing I have to worry about.
Debug rects shown for error checking purposes, and the hitboxes/hurtboxes obviously aren’t final. Let me know what you think?
I'm sure you've answered this before, but what are Maren's motivations? What is she fighting for, who is she fighting, etc? >.>
Ostensibly, Maren fights for herself, for the sake of getting revenge on the people who killed her in the first place. Whether she begins to to embrace the obvious “I fight for justice etc!” angle remains to be seen, pending potential character development throughout the game.
It is also possible that the scientists who saved Maren’s life have their own agenda. I’m not gonna flat out say that’s the case, but it doesn’t sound so implausible, does it?
The identities of the aforementioned bad guys are kept unclear on purpose, I promise! The only things Maren gets to know about them is that they have a vaguely paramilitary structure and only report to their direct superior/subordinate. Essentially, the idea is that she fights her way to their mysterious leader the hard way.
There might be some other aspects that I’m forgetting but I only saw this ask a little bit ago and you probably think I died whoops
