Musically Iām not really that good. Iām nowhere near any level thatās worth talking about. What I can do is like somebody who can make a cake. I can mix things together and make something that is quite nice. But if you take it all apart I donāt believe I have great musical or great lyrical ability, and I have a bigger problem than that - which is, because of my influence from Indian music and the whole spiritual thing, I donāt see the point of writing songs. I could write hundreds of songs, you know, āHey baby, whatcha gonna do.ā I could churn them out, but I donāt want to. If Iām going to say something Iād like it to have some kind of value.
George Harrison, 1997; from the Hare Krishna Tribute to George Harrison, quoted in While My Guitar Gently Weeps: The Music of George Harrison by Simon Leng (via thateventuality)
āThe impact of the Beatles ā not only on rock & roll but on all of Western culture ā is simply incalculable. And as personalities, they defined and incarnated ā60s style: smart, idealistic, playful, irreverent, eclectic. Although many of their sales and attendance records have since been surpassed, no group has so radically transformed the sound and significance of rock & roll. As musicians, the Beatles proved that rock & roll could embrace a limitless variety of harmonies, structures, and sounds; virtually every rock experiment has some precedent on Beatles records.ā -Ā The Rolling Stone Encyclopedia of Rock & Roll (2001)
