Song Review: Jesse Welles - “I Ain’t Going to Hell”

If the music thing doesn’t pan out, Jesse Welles could voice Hank Hill.

Welles does a spot-on Hill during the intro to his latest homemade track, “I Ain’t Going to Hell.” And though it initially presents as a talkin’ blues, “Hell” turns out to be a wry ditty as Welles sings:

Now, I don't know any different than you/if god is an alien or if he's a Jew/and you don't know, there ain’t no way to tell/if you think that's funny or he’d send me to hell/and you don’t know any better than us/if Jesus rode a donkey or a magic bus/may your life last longer than your skirt/I ain’t going to hell/but I sure as hell ain’t going to church

There’s no deep social commentary here; just Welles having a goof with the religious fanatics. But “Hell” is hella catchy and that Hank Hill impression is spooky.
