This is why I have not been in Final Fantasy much lately...
Since January I have been trying to build myself a small income on Twitch to help pay my bills. I am doing streams of action adventure games like Days Gone, The Last of Us, and yes, Final Fantasy XIV.
Iâve done a few for Final Fantasy that were by request to teach others how to do some of the house item placement glitches.
At the moment I am streaming Dishonored 2, playing as Emily on a high chaos run. You can find out more at my Twitch and writing Tumblr: phantascene.tumblr.com

Stumbled across the Grindstone this evening, not even remembering it was Saturday night (long week), and decided to hang around. I was on Trisâtan, who I have not RPed on in far too long, but he is the one who has been to the Grindstone before, so I took it as a sign I should stay. I tossed him into traveler rags garb and found a good location from which to watch the fights.
As usual when he is watching combat, he zeroed in on the knight errant with a sword and shield. Tris is always on the lookout for new techniques when it comes to using a sword and shield. After a few fights, however, his attention was caught by one of the knight errantâs opponents; a lalafell lass weilding a gunblade. This is the first time that Tris has come across one when I was RPing with him. He was rather fascinated by the weapon, particularly when he saw a second one being used by another fighter not long afterward.
I now have several ideas for him either seeking training or teaching himself how to construct and use gunblades (I fear the latter idea might include multiple medical RP sessions as he learns not to blow his hands off, especially since heâs still drinking rather heavily). Might start looking for possible RP partners for gunblade discussion and learning to get back into roleplaying on him. Not sure yet.

Seeking: Vendors, Performers, and Assistants with the events
For the first time ever The Dusk-Spear Alliance will be hosting a Xaela themed festival in the Azim Steppes. In an attempt to foster relations not just between competing tribes but non-Xaela as well, the Alliance is running a host of events during the Festival. Additionally there will be spaces for both Vendors to sell their wares and Performers to put on a show. This will not be a Xaela only event, people and Free Companies are more than welcome to both participate or volunteer.
We are currently looking for volunteers to help out. We have slots open to assist with Archery and Horseback Riding, as well as open stalls for Vendors and spots for performers. If you wish to assist with anything in the event please contact either @a-wanderers-sorrow or @foofmastaflex.
Bokh
The Bokh tournament will have sixteen open slots for fighters to participate. Bokh is a traditional form of wrestling for Mongolians/Xaelas. Prior to the match the participants will perform a dance of respect for their opponents. During the match no part of the body other than the foot may touch the ground, and the first to force their opponent to do so wins. These fights will be overseen by the Kete Sunir, the Khan of the Dusk-Spear Tribe. The rules will be simple. As this is a wrestling match there will be no weapons, magic, use of wildlife, or dirty fighting allowed. This is a test of strength and honor and should be fought as such. ((We will be using Grindstone rules so the first to three wins and knocks their opponent to the ground.))
Archery
Competition Archery for the event will be handled by traditional Mongolian/Xaela rules. Sixteen archers will be allowed to compete in this competition and will be given four arrows per set. Each set will consist of four rounds during which a wall of surs will be set up in front of the Archers. The surs will be wooden cylinders stacked three high with one pillar per archer, standing approximately eight ilms tall. Archers will receive points based on how many surs they knock out of the wall each round. After all four rounds the four highest scoring archers of each group from the first set will move on to a second set and repeat. From the second set the four winners will move on to a final set, at which point the highest scoring archer will be declared the winner.
Horseback Racing
The third and final competition that will be held during the Festival will be Horseback Racing. The race will start from the Northern gate of Reunion and run the entire length of the Azim Steppes with four checkpoints throughout, and finishing when passing through the Southern gate of Reunion. Each checkpoint will have an obstacle the the riders will have to bypass before moving on to the next. The first racer to make it through the finish gate wins.
Sign ups:
Sign ups for each of the events will begin on October 1st and End on October 31st at 11:59 PM EST. Any participants beyond the number allowed for each event will be listed as backups in case the initial sign ups do not show to the event.
The Festivities will start with an Opening Ceremony by the Dusk-Spear Tribe at 8 PM EST and the contests will start at 9 PM EST. After the open ceremony ends vendors will be free to sell their wares and performances will also start.
An official event document will be posted as we get closer to the date. Again if you wish to volunteer to be a vendor, performer, or to assist with one of the competitions please donât hesitate to reach out to us!
For those looking to sign up to participate in Bokh, Archery, and Horseback Racing please got to this form and fill it out:Â https://forms.gle/K46NRWWRfrYNQrvf8

Maria studied the collection of assorted rocks and gemstones in the book, comparing them to the samples she had collected from around the house and yard. Corporal Lyrabhe had let her borrow the book when she started asking about how to tell the different types of rocks apart. She frowned and looked up from the book she had been reading, âSir?â
The corporal lowered the papers he had been reading over, his attention turned to where she sat in front of the fireplace. âYes?â
Maria stood and moved over to where he worked, âWhat is this word?â
Krys studied the book for a moment, âUnctuous.â
Maria frowned at the word as she repeated it, âUncuous⊠I⊠I donât get it, what does it mean, greasy feeling? Does it mean the rock has grease on it?â
Krys smiled as he shook his head. He motioned for her to wait a moment as he stood and walked toward his bedroom, he was back a few moments later with a thin wooden box. It was only a few fingers thick, but as wide and long as table placemat. He waved her to the carpet where she had spread out her collection of rocks and opened it up to show off an assortment of sparkling gemstones and oddly assorted stones. She recognized some, basic crystals and samples of gold, silver, and copper. There were a few that were more exotic, such as two clear stones with what looked like needles stabbed through them - one with black needles, the other straw-colored.
Krys handed her a rock from the collection, âClose your eyes and feel it.â
She did as he instructed and smiled, âIt feels like the soap we use for washing our hands.â
âMhmm. That is what unctuous means.â
âCan you tell me about these ones?â she asked, pointing to the stones with needles trapped inside of them.
Krys looked to the rocks a moment, then smiled as he looked at Maria, âDo you really want to learn about the stones?â
âYes!â
âThen you keep reading that, and when you are ready, you tell me about them. Okay?â
Maria nodded, biting her lip as she carefully set the oily feeling rock back in the empty space in the collection. She turned as Krys moved back to his desk, âSir? You forgot your gemstones.â
Krys smiled as he sat down, âKeep an eye on them for me, when you can identify all of them without the book as a reference you can have the collection.â
Maria felt her eyes widen, âReally?â
Krys nodded.
âThank you!â She was on her feet and to him in a flash, arms around him in a tight brief embrace before she raced back to the rug and grabbed the book, searching for where she had stopped reading it. She was going to learn all about the rocks in the collection.
------------------------------------
Iâm a rockhound, I had to use this meaning for the word. :D
No was a very versitile word when employed by one skilled in its use. Said emphatically and repetitively it could ward off brussel sprouts and postpone bedtimes to well past the midnight hours. Spoken in a high pitched shrieking manner it could drain a tub of bathwater before narry a toe was dipped into it.It was a very powerful word and at some point in the past few weeks, Ellen had learned to weild it like a master swordsman weided a blade. And pitched just right, it could cut just as well as any sword.
Prompt reactions to certain tones of the most insistant noâs had taught not only Ellen, but her older brother and sister as well. Now, at the encouragement of the twins, the younger girl had began to lead dinnertime revolts against the need to eat any undesirable vegetables in order to get the much sought after desert.
Today, however, Krys was prepared. He had taken advantage of having to run the kitchen stove all day to keep the house warm by experimenting with the various vegetables and some sweet syrups until he had discovered a combination that made a dessert-like side of sweet potatoes drizzled in honey with a soft mallow topping. The children were not sure what to make of the vegetables served with slow cooked smoked ham, but even Ellen had ate every bite without a word of protest.
-------------------
I took this as a challenge today, trying to create something that used each word as the first word of a paragraph.
A mixture of grease, soot and blood from skinned knuckled covered Krysâs hands and was smeared across his cheeks and brow. The shirt he wore was a ruined mess. He had been working on the steam heater for the better part of his day off and the thing still was not working right. It had needed to be replaced since he and his ex had bought the small house years before, but every winter the budget just had not been there and Krysâ ex had jurry-rigged the heater into making it âjust one more winter.â The thing had so much wire and patchwork rivited on scrap metal now that it looked like a kobold furnace.
The mornings were getting cold enough that he could see his breath when he got up to get the children ready for the day, and the cookstove in the kitchen had become the primary source of heating the house the past few days.
Krys sat back, a scowl aimed at the old heating system. He had planned to spent the day at the markets in Limsa. It was well past time to make a trip to the markets and buy new coats, hats, gloves, and boots for the children. He actually needed a new coat as well if he could figure out affording it, but he doubted his budget would stretch that far. Especially not with the heater needing to be replaced.
He would need to crunch the numbers, and possibly find some part-time work he could do in the evenings, to get the heater fixed or replaced. Even with the pay raise that had come with his promotion, he just was not making enough. Frustrated he refocused his attention on the old heating system. There had to be a way to make the thing last a little longer.
This one was a lot harder to think on how to use than any of the others had been. I wanted to use it exactly, not go with an easier âbisectedâ or âbisectingâ.
--------------------------------------------
The argument on whose job it was had been going on for several hours before Krys took action. Without saying a word he carefully measured out from either wall and hung a curtain in the room to bisect it into two equal parts. âYou, clean that side, and you, clean that side.â Problem solved he headed down the stairs from the twinâs room only to immediately hear the two begin yelling about the other throwing toys onto their side of the divider.
Another long one - 1044 words. And ugly rough draft, unproofed version because Iâm short on time.
-----------------------------------------
Paper, charcoals, dip pens, inks, paints and brushes covered the desk where Maria sat carefully creating her masterpiece. As soon as she had come up with the idea she had carefully hunted through the house for the perfect sheet of paper, which turned out to be the back of an old map that had been rolled up by the map table in the corner office area downstairs.
The first step had been to draw the base image as perfectly as possible. She had used the lightest lines of charcoal and spent days carefully drawing the lines, hanging the paper on the wall to study it, then carefully adjusting a few lines at a time until she was satisfied that she had captured the essence of her subject. It had taken her weeks.
Corporal Lyrabhe had been teaching her and the others to draw, she knew how to make some lines a bit darker to add the illusion of weight, how to turn the drawing upside down to better tell if something was not right. Small criss-crosses of gradually lighter charcoal marks helped to define where the figures were more rounded along the arms, legs, and torsos. Every trick she had learned from the Corporal and at her lessons in school were used to make this the best picture she had ever drawn.
Once she was completely satisfied she used dip pens and black inks to carefully ink in the lines that would need to be black, then once that was dry she had carefully erased all those weeks worth of sketching so that she could use the brushes and paint to start coloring in her masterpiece. She worked slowly, a bit at a time with thinned paint. She had been practicing on small pictures and knew that she could add more paint, but taking off excess paint or correcting an area she had made the wrong color was far harder to do. Patience was as important for painting as it had been for sketching the picture the first time.
She had got the colors all perfect, except one. And so she had sat down at the desk and gone through all the paints and inks until she had found the perfect colors. Delighted with her discovery of how to blend two colors to get the perfect silvery-white color with a faint tinge of golden highlights and silvery-blue shadows she had stayed up all night for several nights to hide her work from any risk of it being seen before it was finished. A few pretty green pigments she had found in the Corporalâs desk made the perfect dusting of color on the scales of the dragon and at long last Maria had finished and her creation was on display on the wall over her bed.
* * *
Krys frowned as he moved the stack of maps for the twentieth time, certain that he had left the one he needed in the stack. Shaking his head he stood and stepped to the base of the stairs that lead up to the loft above his bedroom. âMaria? Adam?â
Maria appeared at the top of the stairs, looking tired but happy, âYes?â
âDid you move one of the maps from the table down here?â Krys felt a bit of relief, he could tell by her reaction that she knew where the map had gone even before he had finished the question.
âI, uhm⊠I have it up here.â She hesitated, then motioned for him to join her.
Tired and much preferring that she bring the map down to him, he nevertheless ascended the staircase and stepped into the room the twins shared. It was a disaster of toys. All of the blankets and pillows had been draped near the railing where they had collapsed, a fallen fort of some kind. Maria led him to where her bed was and pointed to the wall.
âIâm sorry, I didnât know the map was important.â
Krys recognized the frayed and slightly torn edges of the antique map immediately. The paper so yellowed it had turned brown. The map itself was to the wall, displaying a painting of a fight scene. Maria had captured her subjects with amazing skill, the colors of the sunset mountains a perfect backdrop for the bright green mist dragon that fought a knight in armor and⊠a palico. Krys stepped a bit closer, finding it very hard to be upset at the use of the ancient map and what looked to be hundreds of gil worth of inks. The girl had clearly put her whole heart into the painting.
âUhm⊠Maria?â
âYessir?â
Krys looked at her, a soft smile reassuring her that he was not mad as he reconsidered just how much the inks used had cost, âIs that the platinum ink from my desk drawer?â
Maria timidly nodded, âYessir. Iâm sorry, I did not think you would mind if I used it.â
A former lifetime of being a street performer and spy aided him in not looking as sick as he felt when he smiled to her and nodded, his attention turned back to the picture. She had also, it seemed, used his gold and mythril inks in her efforts to make her heroâs armor as radiant as possible.
âDo you need the map back?â
Krys shook his head, âNo, thatâs okay. I will see if I can find another map I can use. ButâŠâ He forced himself to smile still, not wanting to make her think he was upset, she had clearly worked very hard and it was a lovely picture. âCan you ask before you use the maps or my inks from now on?â
âYessir, I promise!â
Krys nodded and looked to the painting, âIt is a very good picture. The best youâve ever made I think.â
Stiffling a small shriek of delight, Maria hopped onto her bed. Her attention was locked on her masterpiece as Krys headed back down the stairs. He understood the map room at the 1-9 had been expanded while he had been in Doma, maybe they would have a copy of the map. Otherwise he would have to go searching the local map shops and bookstores for an impossible to find map of a little mapped portion of Gyr Albania.
@sea-wolf-coast-to-coast
Short, but it was a long day so I feel lucky to get even this much done.
-----------------
The plants in the garden had began to wilt as the summer months faded to autumn and the evenings grew colder. It was as though like the plants the summer itself had began to wilt anf the colors fade to the more subdued tones of autumn. The corn was ripe, the pumpkins and gourds near ready to be picked and carved for All Saints Wake or turned into late autumn treats. As sad as it was to see the garden come to the end of the growing season, it was exciting and terrifying to think of how soon the days would fade to long winter nights. All too soon the first Starlight celebration would be upon Krysâ small family. He needed to get started hiding away whatever toys he could. He was determined that the celebration would be as memorable and wonderful as he could make it for the three children.
