Mining For Trouble : Noah & Riley
Riley folded his arms, hearing every little move his arms made with the sounds of the fabric rustling louder than he expected.
If he was being truthful, he’d say he didn’t trust this man. Maybe it was the smirk.
"If you’re willing to tag along then how can I say no?" He tugged on the brim of his fedora for a moment. "It would be extremely impolite to refuse."
Besides, I’m curious to what they want to do with this gate.
The dark haired man turned on the spot, eyes scanning the area of his ‘second home’. Turning to the shorter man, Riley spoke, while calmly, he didn’t bother hiding the suspicion in his voice. "Lead the way. I’d assume you know where to go."
It was clear this man didn’t trust him, Noah could see it as plain as day. And he had good reason not to trust him, really, but with that detail the grunt couldn’t have cared less. “Wonderful,” he beamed, turquoise wig bouncing slightly when he cocked his head. “Right this way, sir.”
There was a certain bite to Noah’s voice when he called the man sir, something mocking in his tone. When he turned and stepped leisurely towards the elevator he didn’t bother checking to see if the other was following, instead busying himself by fiddling with his Galactic uniform shirt — God, he hated wearing this thing. It tugged and pulled in the most uncomfortable places, and not to mention made him look like an idiot. Who even designed these wretched things? He’d like to give them a few fashion tips, he thought with a bitter frown.
Only upon reaching the elevator did the grunt check on his companion’s whereabouts, finding the man trailing just a few feet behind him and watching him suspiciously. Noah smiled innocently and gestured to the steel platform. After you, was the silent message communicated, and it seemed to be successfully received when the taller cautiously stepped past him and onto the elevator. Once Noah was too on board the steel began to groan and lower slowly, as if it sensed the passengers were ready without being told.
"So," Noah started casually, gazing out at the rocky scenery of the lower level as they descended, "do you have a name?"
He pulled the blue fedora lower on his face as he was called sir, another thing that hissed out a dislike for the other. It was like he knew exactly what sort of vocal tones and just behaviour in general pissed off the tall man. Holding back a bark at the tone he’d used, Riley instead spoke as calmly as he could, trying to act like it’d floated over his head like clouds. “Right.” He had mumbled, voice at a whispery level.
Riley stepped lightly onto the elevator, one he knew well, and felt somewhat like most of his worries over the other disappear as he let his mind drift for the time they’d been on the elevator. Even the rusty squeaks and groans of the steel lowering were blocked out as he just let his mind leave for the few small moments that felt like forever.
Of course, he made sure he’d drifted back once he realised he’d been asked something by the smaller of the pair. “Ah, sorry.” He excused himself with a cough again, it was a habit. “My name’s Riley, it’s a pleasure. And I have the absolute joy of meeting whom..?”

Mining For Trouble : Noah & Riley
A gate?
No such thing existed from what he knew on the island. And he knew the island like the back of his hand. Pursing his lips slightly, Riley to keep his face as expressionless as he could, although the nearly mocking sound escaping the others lips was definitely causing a twitch in his facial muscle. "It’s.. indeed a tall order.." He murmured, idly rubbing his hands together.
But a tall order for what? That was the part the dark haired trainer didn’t get. As the spaceman, as Riley had a lack of better words to describe him, continued speaking on, he couldn’t help but scoff a bit. "It sounds like you’re trying to keep me away, or just restricting me from the area." He paused for a minute, taking a small glance around before turning back to the turquoise haired man.
"Makes you look suspicious."
Keep him away? Oh dear, this young man was falling for his verbal trap even quicker than Noah had anticipated. He let his surprise show innocently on his face, blinking at the man slowly. “Keep you away?” he repeated, tone disbelieving. “You misunderstand. I only want to know your intentions. Whichever you choose is fine with me.”
Noah smiled warmly, cocked his head to the side. “Truth be told, I’m not much of a battler,” he chuckled quietly. “I’m more of an… observer, when it comes to conflict, you see. Why play the sport when you can spectate from the sidelines, route for your favourite team?”
In his own ears, the logic was sound. He had no reason to fight, so why should he? It would be simply pointless.
"So," Noah finished with a sigh, "what will it be? I’m not going to stop you, remember, if you decide to go down there." The raven-haired man laughed a little. "I’m just advising against it."
The smirk on his lips hardened then, eyes clouding and darking a fraction. “Though… if you do decide to interrogate, I wouldn’t mind tagging along. I’m interested to see what you will make of it all.”
Riley folded his arms, hearing every little move his arms made with the sounds of the fabric rustling louder than he expected. If he was being truthful, he'd say he didn't trust this man. Maybe it was the smirk.
"If you're willing to tag along then how can I say no?" He tugged on the brim of his fedora for a moment. "It would be extremely impolite to refuse."
Besides, I'm curious to what they want to do with this gate.
The dark haired man turned on the spot, eyes scanning the area of his 'second home'. Turning to the shorter man, Riley spoke, while calmly, he didn't bother hiding the suspicion in his voice. "Lead the way. I'd assume you know where to go."
Looking for Someone? || Riley & Diantha
Diantha looked over at Riley then nodded her head. She would of been find but she didn't want to argue.
"It's fine, I would use my other coat but I left it back in the Pokemon center." She admitted, wasn't one of her smartest choice but she didn't want to be much of a burden.
"Kalos is pretty sunny and rainy but its warm." She told him and the reason of why she was dressed the way she is.
Even if she did want to bring out one of her pokemon, she doesn't know what pokemon lives in the cave.
Silence again. Least it wasn't awkward between them, "how long do you think the rain will subside?" She asked looking over at Riley. She hasn't experienced this much rain.
She wanted to keep the conversation going between the two but she still can't get rid of the thought that she has met Riley somewhere.
'Where have I seen him?' She thought not realizing that she was staring at the male.
Riley pursed his lips as she admitted to her little mistake of not bringing her coat, in response he waved his free hand softly, trying to dismiss it. "Well, once the rain stops, you can head back and get that jacket of yours. You'll need it, like I said."
"Kalos is pretty sunny and rainy but it's warm."
So where she was from was a practical opposite of Sinnoh. "Ah, I see." He murmured, voice just barely a whisper. "That would explain it then."
Looking back out to the rain, as thankful as he was for the silence, as Riley wasn't one for conversation, but when she started speaking, he immediately gave her another smile and glance, trying to be polite by, as he had been taught by practically every etiquette teacher he had, to look someone in the eyes whilst they spoke. "Well, I'd assume that it might stop in an hour or two, but it might even continue all night." He sighed. 'It's always either raining or snowing in Sinnoh. Can't we ever get some sun?' He always thought like this when it rained. Sinnoh honestly never got sun, and when they did, he could remember nearly everyone rushing to get to a beach or somewhere to have fun.
His gaze wandered over to where she'd been staring at him for, what he considered to be quite some time, but was probably only a second or two. Riley could feel his face tingle and burn, and pulled his fedora a bit further down on his face. As much as he disliked people staring at him, he couldn't help but wonder why. "Um.. Miss, do you need something?" He asked, grateful that the burning feeling on his face had disappeared.
Looking for Someone? || Riley & Diantha
Diantha looked at the male confused when he offered her his hand. She wouldn't mind shaking the male's hand, but currently she would let it be.
Well, its a pleasure to make your acquaintance, anyway. Even without the handshake. My name is Riley, and you?
'Riley.. I've heard of that name some where before.' She thought to herself then brushed it off.
"Pleasure to meet you Riley. My name is Diantha from the Kalos Region." She told him, since her clothing is pretty strange to some people. Taking off of her scarf which is drenching wet in the rain, she set it aside on a rock near by.
"The rain is coming down hard." She stated probably to no one as she looked outside of the cave and see the rain coming down hard.
Silence. That was all that was surrounding them other than the pitter patter of the rain against the ground and the cave. It was also getting cold since the temperature dropped who knows how much.
Diantha took off her coat a while ago, now all she is in, is her shorts and a tank top. Not really the best choice in clothing, but it was her first time in Sinnoh so, she didn't know what the weather was like here.
"Diantha, huh?" He gave a smile toward the woman and nodded. "Sounds easy enough to remember."
Analysing what the woman was wearing, Riley couldn't help but notice the fact that she must've been freezing. Sinnoh was known to be a snow covered region nearly all year round, so many of the natives dressed warmly. This was definitely the first thing he'd notice that she was probably a foreigner. Hell, if he was freezing, then Riley couldn't imagine the hell she was going through.
"I'd give you my blazer, but I'm afraid it mightn't be of any use." He chuckled as he lifted up the wet and somewhat heavy jacket in his hand. "Just for future reference, ma'am, yet I'd advise you to put on something warm while in Sinnoh. It gets cold here."
Mining For Trouble : Noah & Riley
Riley followed the other’s every movement with his eyes, suspicious, yet not the sort to dig to deep unless they had some sort of plot to hurt anything on the island.
"People like to train here.." Riley pointed out, but this man was right. Not many where here today. "I suppose it would be natural to assume that."
He considered letting out a sarcastic laugh and saying something rather rude to the short man in response, but bit his tongue and held it back. "Oh dear, how’d you figure that one out?" He asked with a tone like he’d just been caught. "Did you guess by the fact their faces are plastered everywhere?" Rolling his eyes, Riley really did wonder how hard it would’ve been to guess that one.
He excused himself for making such a comment before shaking his head. "Tests, huh..?" He paused for a moment before asking. "It wouldn’t be too rude of me to ask why, now would it?"
The dry retort made Noah fight to repress the scowl that wanted to break over his face. Instead he kept his lips in a slight curve, eyes narrowed by half their usual size, and refrained from coming up with a reply that could really only land him in hot water.
"Tests, huh..?" Noah smiled, ducking his head a little to hide most of it from the man. This was what he had been hoping for — interest. "It wouldn’t be too rude of me to ask why, now would it?"
Now, ho should he respond? What a tricky position to be put in. With a small shrug the grunt averted his eyes for a moment, gazing around the cave and feigning avoidance of the topic. “Not rude, I suppose,” he answered finally. “inconvenient, mostly. I would hate to be reprimanded for letting slip what they’re up to… Hmm, but I guess I can tell you a little.”
Noah paused for effect, laced his fingers together behind his back. “They… We, are searching for a gate. More specifically… the key to a gate. No one knows where it’s hidden aside from that it exists somewhere within Sinnoh.” A laugh, quiet and almost mocking. “A tall order, if you ask me, but you have to start somewhere, yes?”
A hand reached up once more to pull his wig more comfortably over his head. “Now then…” Noah sighed, “what will you be doing? Staying away, or… going on ahead?”
A gate? No such thing existed from what he knew on the island. And he knew the island like the back of his hand. Pursing his lips slightly, Riley to keep his face as expressionless as he could, although the nearly mocking sound escaping the others lips was definitely causing a twitch in his facial muscle. "It's.. indeed a tall order.." He murmured, idly rubbing his hands together.
But a tall order for what? That was the part the dark haired trainer didn't get. "It sounds like you're trying to keep me away, or just restricting me from the area." He paused for a minute, taking a small glance around before turning back to the turquoise haired man.
"Makes you look suspicious."
What's your favorite pokemon, and why?
((mun does jazz hands at Lucario))
"I guess I like a lot of steel types, but I really like Pokemon with high attack. Fitting for my personality, isn’t it?" His voice had been void of sarcasm. "When I was little though, I loved the Pokemon Litwick. It was cute, and I liked reading about it."
"But now I suppose I like Lucario. I suppose it’s because It’s grown on me, but I think I like it for the fact that they have an unswayable loyalty. That, and the fact that they use aura as well really helps me learn more about this ability I have."
How did you receive your first Pokemon?
Riley kept quiet for a few moments at the question, his eyes drifting off to where he kept his Pokeballs clipped onto his belt.
"I guess I might’ve been about.. five." He started, trying to remember the moment he had received his Lucario, then a Riolu. "I never really wanted Pokemon, but Mother Dearest told me that I simply must have at least one with me.”
He rolled his eyes for a moment, before continuing on."I was, of course, enamoured with books, so I contemplated on what I wanted for a Pokemon, which usually, at five.. wasn’t something most would do. But then again I was an antisocial kid with an addiction to libraries, so what can I say."
"There was a older woman nearby who had a Riolu, but a lot of kids stayed away from her because they thought she was.. messed in the head. To make this long story short, she died, the Riolu ran off and hid in the library. I had been there with my mother when we found it, and I just started taking care of it.”
"It definitely had an attitude, but I guess the little thing grew onto me and now here I am, with my absolutely lovely Lucario.”
Looking for Someone? || Riley & Diantha
Diantha finally arrived at Iron Island. She let her Gardevior out of her pokeball for a while till it started to rain.
"Gardevior return." She commanded and let the red light shoot out of Gardevior's pokeball and bring her back to her pokeball for her to stay dry in.
Trying to find shelter she noticed an opening in a cave. 'Guess no harm in going in for the time being.' She thought and went inside the cave not knowing some one else was in there.
Stepping through most of the puddles she finally made it inside the cave. 'Didn't expect it to rain.' She thought and looked outside where the rain kept hitting anything it touches.
Hiding from the rain yourself? It’s a shame that it’s so wet today, I was sure it was going to be nice today
Diantha jumped, startled by the sudden sound, she turned around and noticed a male is inside the cave. "Oh sorry were you asleep when I came in?" She asked, she didn't know what the male was doing.
It seemed like a nice spot for a resting area but knowing some wild steel type pokemon around the area, anything could happen.
Riley chuckled when she assumed he'd been sleeping, and he rested his chin in his palms and began to take in what she looked like, rather soaked as well, by the look of it. "Not at all, ma'am." He responded, before taking a glance at his hair and the fedora resting beside him. "I was escaping the rain as well, if you can't tell."
Standing up and walking over to the woman, he held out his hand for her to shake, only to look at it as it still dripped with water. "Ah.. sorry." He murmured. "Well, it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, anyway. Even without the handshake. My name is Riley, and you?"
Looking for Someone? || Riley & Diantha
Riley sat on a rather large boulder in a pocket of the mine, which was closest to the entrance, water dripping off onto his face from his dark strands of hair. Watching rain drops fall and form puddles outside of the cave, he sighed as he pulled off his blazer and began to wring it out, trying to get as much water out of it as possible. He was soaked, his turtleneck clinging to his arms and his hair stuck to his pale skin.
Honestly, rain was so annoying. Yet oddly soothing to Riley. The gentle 'pitter patter' it made was relaxing and gave him some sort of sense of security. He found the sounds enjoyable, just not the rain itself. Tugging at his sleeves, his mind considered pulling it off and wringing it out as well, but he decided against it, even if the chances of catching a cold were very high.
Directing a soft glance toward the entrance, and the sound of someone stepping through a puddle had caught his attention, as a young woman, looking around his age or younger, had entered. Slipping back on his blazer, Riley chuckled and ran a hand through his soaked hair.
Giving her a smile, he spoke quietly but in his usual polite attitude at this woman. "Hiding from the rain yourself? It's a shame that it's so wet today, I was sure it was going to be nice today." He commented lightly, his eyes flickering toward the entrance and back to the short haired woman.
Mining For Trouble : Noah & Riley
Riley turned immediately when he heard the shift and sounds of footsteps of someone nearby and met eyes with a man, who looked like he was a tad short. What really stood out about him was his outfit, which made him look like he just jumped out of a spaceship and his bowl cut.
Was it real? Why on Earth would he cut it like that if it was?
"Well, I’m sorry to disappoint but if you wanted the island to be deserted you’ve come on the wrong day." Turning on his heel, Riley walked over and had to look down in order to look at the turquoise haired, which he wasn’t even sure was real, man. "But may I ask why you assumed that it was deserted?"
The raven haired trainer absolutely loathed the look on this persons face. It gave him the chills like he was plotting something. However, he gave a hollow laugh when he brought up some sort of talented trainer, as if it was some ghostly legend. "I? Some sort of subject of what appears to be travellers old wifes’ tale? Are you sure you’re not talking about the Gym leader or his son?"
If he was being honest, Noah would have said it was a little unnerving how much taller this guy was than him. As the man glared down at him Noah scowled up, the hand on his hip tightening in the fabric of his shirt. Is he trying to intimidate me? What an idiot. "Well," he began with a light shrug, "this is an abandoned mine. At this time of day it’s only natural to assume that nobody would be down here…”
Noah turned his head to the side but kept an eye fixed pointedly on the taller man, the smirk on his lips never wavering. “Oh, come now. I’m not a fool, you know.” The laugh he let out was dry, did nothing to hide his lack of sincere amusement. “You are far too young to be Byron, are you not? And his son, Roark… no, you aren’t him either. You’re someone entirely different.”
At that Noah took a small step around the man, started to circle him slowly, deliberately. He would do everything he could to stay on top right now, lest he miss his chance to escape when the moment called for it. “Hmm, no matter, I suppose. In any case,” the grunt sighed dismissively, “I wouldn’t go any deeper into this cave. My colleagues are… running some tests. I don’t think they would be very pleased if you decided to disturb them.”
Of course, that was the exact opposite of what Noah was hoping would happen. If he told this guy exactly what was going on just a level deeper on the island, he might just find it in his pure and chivalrous heart to go and investigate further. Assuming that he was indeed that sort of man, obviously. If not, that would just make for a boring exit, now wouldn’t it?
Riley followed the other's every movement with his eyes, suspicious, yet not the sort to dig to deep unless they had some sort of plot to hurt anything on the island. "People like to train here.." Riley pointed out, but this man was right. Not many where here today. "I suppose it would be natural to assume that."

Mining For Trouble : Noah & Riley
Riley was, to put it bluntly, bored of waiting around a cave, or mine, or whatever it was now. Sure, it had been once plentiful in material, but now it was a barren waste that had no true purpose but for people who wanted to train their teams here.
Pursing his lips as he realised his mind had trailed, he pulled his own attention back to reality, and back to training his team. The screech of both bat Pokemon and the loud roaring sound coming from his Garchomp rang dully in his ears as he directed his Lucario to speed up the attacks.
As the two powerhouses for Pokemon, each with ridiculous attack power that Riley joked was his specialty, clashed, Riley hadn’t realised that Garchomp had been thrown into a wall and caused several rocks to fall, as well as a loud bang.
“Honestly, Lucario! I said don’t go all out, not smash something and go all out!” He snapped, not something the usually calm man did. Quickly and quietly lifting the rocks off with the help of his Lucario, who’d growled something at his trainer that had earned a harsh glare, and returned the dragon Pokemon back to it’s Pokeball, but was now sure he’d attracted attention.
Riley looked around, his eyes scanning the area before turning away. It wasn’t wise to use his abilities now, who knew who’d saw that little slip up? Aside from his own loud bang causing more noise in the rundown mine, he could’ve swore he’d heard the elevators. Riley was sure of it, someone was watching him. But where were they? Was it wise to call them out? He chose to keep quiet but continuously looked around the area.
Ah… A trainer. Noah smirked reservedly, peeking around one of the rocky islands littered around the mountain. His index finger traced idle patterns in its dirt-covered surface while he observed from a distance, the languid movement lulling him into a calm half-conscious state that made him almost forget he was watching a potential enemy.
I wonder… what sort of trouble this man could cause?
It was too intriguing that the Galactic grunt just had to find out the answer. Lifting a hand to tug his turquoise-coloured wig more securely into place Noah planted a devious smile on his face, stepped out into view with one hand on his hip.
"Well now, what’s this?" He inquired innocently. He was nothing if not a little theatrical, but it was just something he couldn’t control. If it helped stir up trouble, there wasn’t much he wouldn’t do. "I was under the impression that the island was deserted today… Yet here you are."
It might have been the twist of his lips, or the slant in his brows, but something in Noah’s expression shifted so fluidly then that he looked almost fox-like. “You wouldn’t happen to be that… incredibly talent trainer I’ve heard mutterings of around these parts, would you?”

Mining For Trouble : Noah & Riley
Iron Island… He really didn’t like this place much.
Noah was an urban soul, didn’t have much patience when it came to the wilderness. He would much rather lounge about in the Galactic headquarters (or something to that effect) than wander the darkness of some abandoned mining island. However, he didn’t exactly have a choice right now — a squad of Galactic grunts had sent to the old excavation site to investigate… well, Noah didn’t really know, nor did he find much space in his mind to care. Iron Island was quite close to Canalave City, and frequented by their Gym Leader.
Noah could only hope the League member was lucky enough to pay the island a visit while Team Galactic was there.
Zubat and Golbat fluttered noisily around the ceiling, the Galactic Grunt’s brows twitch minutely in irritation. He trailed behind the couple of other grunts he was groups with, hands in his pockets and making no attempt to keep up with them. They didn’t seem to care, they never did; to fall behind was your own fault, no one else’s. But Noah could look after himself, and the others knew it well enough.
The two in front began conversing quietly, mumbling something about a well-known trainer around these parts who apparently trained at the island on a regular basis. Noah listened in mild interest with one ear, the other attempting to catch any little noises being made around the cave. “I’ll follow in a moment,” he answered vaguely when the group reached a rusted elevator platform, boarded and turned to him expectantly. “I just want to check something…”
They were already descending by the time Noah had finished speaking but the man’s attention was already elsewhere, caught by the sound of a small impact against the far wall of the island. He approached cautiously, eyes narrowed and body twisted into something of a defensive posture. Perhaps it was nothing to worry about, none of his concern, but… well, there was no harm in checking.
In any case, if it were anything troublesome he would rather know about it in time to escape the ensuing chaos. Noah liked to observe such scenes from afar, not in the thick of the danger.
Riley was, to put it bluntly, bored of waiting around a cave, or mine, or whatever it was now. Sure, it had been once plentiful in material, but now it was a barren waste that had no true purpose but for people who wanted to train their teams here.
