let me just state upfront: I am excited to see what they do with Danganronpa 2x2! I am a staunch advocate of new instalments even if they wind up not being up my alley! New media means new fans, new engagement as well as potential future new material which I do actually like!

Honestly?

I know Trigger Happy Havoc isn't the most popular in the series, but... jumping straight to remaking Super Danganronpa 2?

V3 I'd get, but SDR2 is a direct sequel of THH; you kinda need to know how that game ends to get any of the payoff.

and unless they're planning on changing up all the motives for the 'different killer/victim AU' mode- (which to be fair that might be the case! That'd be super cool! but like.. I wanna temper my expectations in the light of Dangan's track record)

the original motives have some character specific plot-beats I don't know how they'll reckon with; -For trial 2, who other than Fuyuhiko, Peko, and Mahiru would care about Twilight Syndrome Murder Case motive? -No one else but Nagito could win the full reward from the Final Dead Room. -Trail 5 can't happen if Nagito or Chiaki don't make it -and Hajime himself is integral to the conclusion of trial 6

But THH, not only is it GASPING for a graphical upgrade, there's no need to change any motives or locations for a total killer/victim rewrite to still work. Barring Junko herself, all that's needed is a 'traitor' for trail 5 and a 'body' for trail 6- and those could be anyone. You would get a genuinely new experience shuffling around who succumbs to Monokuma's temptations and who pays for it

Hell, a THH AU mode could lead directly into SDR2's AU mode!

but I suppose THH will continue to be relegated to collecting mothballs at the bottom of Kodaka's underwear drawer.

regardless, I am excited for some new Dangan in the year of our lord 2026, no matter the form

I have a crack theory. Danganronpa 2x2 = 4. This is actually Danganronpa 4 disguised as a remake. The reason why they have to do this with DR2 and not DR1 is because Danganronpa 2 is the only game whose entire cast is alive at the end of DR3-- so they could all theoretically appear for another killing game in Danganronpa 4.
