now that I had some time to process I have FEELINGS about first kill. this is basically me rambling/ranting
first off the guild is basically a cult. blood in, blood out, kill marks like serial killers collecting trophies, don’t question them, if you’re not with them you’re against them. it’s a cult that indoctrinates kids as young as 12 into picking up weapons and killing. right on the first episode apollo was saying he prefers monsters that don’t beg or plead for their lives. like what kind of fucked up shit has he done?
also every time someone said the word “monster” I cringed. not gonna lie it felt very much like a slur in this universe and considering the very blatant allegories, that’s basically what it is.
also I like the burns a lot, but jesus christ why are they so dumb?? like attacking a party full of vampires who were minding their own business and who they didn’t know how to kill? they only have themselves to blame for the couple who died and the kid who was orphaned. basically pretty much every time they attacked a legacy unprovoked they were asking for something bad to happen. also can you please explain to me like I’m a four year old, mama talia, why in the name of christ are you trusting your recently turned child to someone you were literally torturing five minutes ago? there wasn’t even enough time for stockholm syndrome to develop lady.
that last episode frustrated the hell out of me in terms of character development for cal. she spent the entire series learning that jules is different, that not every supernatural being is bad, and trying to convince her family of that and then bam, jules is a monster and she’s gonna kill all legacy vampires, when literally five minutes ago she was begging jack not to kill theo because he was still her brother. what happened to that sis? that was a bit of a cop out to me, like a shortcut to create massive amounts of drama between cal and jules.
re: the fairmonts. elinor is creeeeeeeepy and like. no. I mean as a character she’s fun, but there’s something seriously wrong with that girl. she’s a sociopath and I just don’t see how she could ever be redeemed. oliver on the other hand seems a bit more complicated. equally manipulative and fucked up, but I haven’t seen enough of him to make a firm judgement. I don’t know what to think of margot. margot seems to swing between trying to be a good mom and relate to jules and elinor, like with the consecration ceremony and such, and trying to make them conform to what she feels they should be. I mean, there’s obviously a biological imperative when it comes to feeding and killing for vampires, but there had to be a better way to encourage jules to accept her own nature.
basically both the burns and the fairmonts are fucked up as families and cal and jules need a shit ton of therapy, is what I’m saying.
