come on everyone you know what to do
idk man sometimes i like it when video game writers are allowed to plan a series of events that happen in a specific order and affect each other in turn to become an overarching narrative, and i don’t mind trusting those writers to take me through those events in the order that is emotionally effective. i don’t really care if a game forces me to go through the forest area first before i can attempt the icy area because maybe there’s things that happen in the forest area that inform later scenes in the icy area. maybe we don't need more superficial player choice open world concepts if it comes at the cost of the ability to write a story with actual significant plot events and character development in each section

AAHHHHHH TAURICE
the realization that the unhealthy trait you’ve given your favorite oc for funsies is actually something you unintentionally do is like watching a five year old innocently and perfectly mimic your bad habits
the direction my life is taking right now often reminds me of the traits I have already given to Taurice. guy in my head who isn't real. occasionally, straight up word-for-word events seem to take place in my life after they've already "happened" to him.
I call it retroactive projection. i'd probably call it manifesting if I believed in such things. but really I think it's the result of the characters you write taking on the things you love, the things you hate. when these traits are employed in the story, this usually means they progress in very natural ways. the same way they would in a real person. the character isn’t real, but their vices and habits are true to reality.
it's deliberate sometimes, it's good to "write what you know," but I've learned that it can absolutely be completely subconscious.
I've given him specific harmful coping mechanisms and then fallen into them myself. And I fired my therapist because I found her doing her job to be annoying, after I wrote extensive fanfiction where Taurice did the same to Dr. Glass. I wasn't thinking of him in these moments, but these ideas and tendencies were always in my head and writing it in an oc was a safe way to explore it. It happens in positive ways, too. I'm going to college next month and it has an extremely robust outdoor program. i'll earn a wilderness first responder certification there. it's new and it's scary but the mountains always called to me when I was living far from them.
When I was writing Taurice as a hiker it was just because I rather liked hiking a couple days a week. Expanding his wilderness theme was a natural progression, and now I'm living that progression, too.
maybe what I'm trying to say is you are what you eat write, and the things you pour yourself into sometimes breathe and grow just like you will, if you do it right
