Just a reminder that Azriel stayed at the House of Wind because he would have absolutely DEVOURED Elain if he was in the same house with her. His sanity is hanging on by a thread.
At risk of being repetitive, because I've reblogged a few posts about the topic although I've never made one myself, something I need to shout out Elriels for is we're a pretty tight community that won't leave one of us hanging, especially if we're seeing unfair treatment, from whomever it is.
We don't precisely agree on everything, that needs to be said too. Lord knows many of my mutuals could've blocked me for how hard I go on Lucien when they like him and want him to be happy eventually. But it's fine, we understand that we disagree on stuff.
Some of us think Elriel are mates, some don't. Some think Lucien should get a POV, some don't. Some of us think Elriel will happen through Elain making the first step, some think that's not the case at all. And so on and so forth. I could maybe name more instances but you get my point.
What I don't see though, is people shaming others for "stepping out of line" or disagreeing on stuff, or calling out bad behavior (non that there's much, if any tbh 🤷🏻♀️).
I have to appreciate this little supportive community we've built for ourselves. I hope you know I appreciate each one of you so much.
And not to be sappy but I probably would've noped out of them fandom a long while ago had it not been because I detected pretty soon just how welcoming and open-minded and diverse this side of the fandom is.
You guys are the warmest, funniest, kindest, most intelligent group of women (gays and theys I see you too) I could've possibly asked to have around me while we wait for out girl's book. It sure as hell hasn't been an easy ride for us, as much as we try to make light of it.
I know some of you have had the most horrifying experiences with certain people. But we're closer than ever now.
I appreciate you so much. Stay amazing 🩷🌸
I just know Azriel drops the “my wife/mate” at every available moment.
“Yes my wife is an amazing gardener. Half of the flowers in Velaris are there because of her, my lovely mate”
“…. I just asked you how the weather was”
“Allow me to make one thing clear. You are to stay away from her.”
“You can’t order me to do that.”

Elain and Azriel - A Fairytale Romance
I’m so jealous of the future me that has read ACOTAR 6, 7, and 8
Hand-to-Hand
We learn in ACOSF Azriel is not a fan of “hand-to-hand” combat, as it is “too close” for his tastes. Azriel, whose hands were burned in childhood by his brothers, who is quite introverted, quiet, and selective with his touch, humor, and presence, does not readily touch many people in the series. One person he consistently and almost exclusively offers his hands and time to, is Elain.
In my opinion, Sarah brought his dislike of hand-to-hand combat and closeness to our attention to show us something. I believe that something is his selectivity, exclusivity, and gentleness as it pertains to closeness and touch. I have seen some discuss Azriel’s gentleness with Elain as a bad thing, but I disagree.
Azriel is extremely gentle, dare I say, even when he’s using his hands for torture…which we’re meant to see in this contrast that Sarah makes about the dynamic nature of Azriel’s character. I would argue that Azriel isn’t brash in the violent use of his hands- he’s thoughtful and considerate in a different way- but by no means brash. I would never describe Azriel as irreverent, even when he is engaged in torture.
“Cassian could have sworn Nesta’s fingers stalled on the laces of her boots. He drawled, “Nothing at all. We’re starting on hand-to-hand combat.”
“My least favorite,” Azriel said.
Toeing off her boots, Nesta asked, “Why?”
Az observed her, striding barefoot into the ring. “I like swordplay better. Hand-to-hand is too close for my tastes.” (ACOSF, p 340)
Azriel, graceful as any courtier, offered her an arm. I couldn’t tell if she was looking at his blue Siphon or at his scarred skin beneath as she breathed, “Beautiful.” Color bloomed high on Azriel’s golden-brown cheeks, but he inclined his head in thanks and led my sister toward the back doors into the garden, sunlight bathing them. (ACOWAR, p 347) set her down gently on the foyer carpet, having carried her in through the front door.
He set her down gently on the foyer carpet, having carried her in through the front door.
Elain peered up at his patient, solemn face.
Azriel smiled faintly. “Would you like me to show you the garden?” (ACOWAR, p 346)
“I can help her,” said Azriel, stepping to the table as Elain silently rose. No shadows at his ear, no darkness ringing his fingers as he extended a hand. Nesta monitored him like a hawk, but kept silent as Elain took his hand, and out they went. (ACOWAR, p 426)
“It has never failed me once,” the shadowsinger said, the midday sun devoured by the dark blade. “Some people say it is magic and will always strike true.” He gently took her hand and pressed the hilt of the legendary blade into it. “It will serve you well.”
Elain looked up at Azriel, their eyes meeting, his hand still lingering on the hilt of the blade. (ACOWAR, p 811)
Azriel still cradling Elain to his chest. He dripped blood behind him the entire time—a trickle compared to the torrent that should be leaking out. Contained only by the patches of power he’d slapped on it. Help—he needed a healer immediately. (ACOWAR, p 774)
Then Azriel, gently taking Elain’s hand in his own, as if afraid his scars would hurt her. (ACOWAR, p 645)
Azriel gently removed the gag from her mouth. “Are you hurt?”
She shook her head, devouring the sight of him as if not quite believing it. “You came for me.” The shadowsinger only inclined his head. (ACOWAR, p 763)
“She gave it back,” I amended, failing to block out the image of the black blade piercing through the King of Hybern’s throat. But Elain had given it back—had pressed it into Azriel’s hands after the battle, just as he had pressed it into hers before. And then walked away without looking back. (ACOSAF, p 60)
But Azriel only took Elain’s heavy dish of potatoes from her hands, his voice soft as night as he said, “Sit. I’ll take care of it.” (ACOSAF, p 135)
Azriel is gentle and considerate when offering touch to others besides Elain. The only other times he does so is with Feyre’s wings, with which he thoroughly asks permission and Mor, who pulls her hand away. He also grabs Cassian’s hand when he tries to dig-in to the meal Elain assisted in preparing ahead of her return to the table (if that is not husband and wife vibes…) He is careful. He is considerate. And he is…gentle.
Azriel’s hands, for all their scarring, were featherlight as he grasped and touched certain areas, patting and tapping others. (ACOWAR, p 285)
Mor opened her mouth, but Azriel laid a scarred hand atop hers.
She snatched her hand back as if she’d been burned—burned as he had been.
Azriel’s mask of cold didn’t so much as waver at the rejection. Though Eris chuckled softly. Enough to make Azriel’s hazel eyes…(ACOWAR, p 368)
Azriel’s scarred fingers wrapped around his wrist. “Wait,” Azriel said, nothing but command in his voice. (ACOFAS, p 135)
Getting Azriel to take any time for himself that didn’t involve work or training was nearly impossible. And when I pointed out that he did go to Rita’s with her whenever she asked, Mor simply informed me that it had taken her four centuries to get him to do that. (ACOMAF, p 507)
Peaceful. Quiet. Gentle.
And I think Elain—Elain would like it, too. Though she’d probably cling to Azriel, just to have some peace and quiet.”
I smiled at the thought—at how handsome they would be together. (ACOWAR, p 654)
That I would never be a gentle grower of things, or someone who burned like fire—but that I would.. (ACOMAF, p654)
Elain, who Nesta would have killed and whored and stolen for. Elain, who had been gentle and sweet. Elain, who was to marry a lord’s son who hated faeries … (ACOMAF, p 807)
Spring bloomed—the air gentle and scented with roses. (ACOMAF, p 829)
Elain had always been gentle and sweet—and I had considered it a different sort of strength. A better strength. To look at the hardness of the world and choose, over and over, to love, to be kind. She had been always so full of light. (ACOWAR, p 215)
Elain sat silently at one of the wrought-iron tables, a cup of tea before her. Azriel was sprawled on the chaise longue across the gray stones, sunning his wings and reading what looked to be a stack of reports—likely information on the Autumn Court that he planned to present to Rhys once he’d sorted through it all. Already dressed for the Hewn City—the brutal, beautiful armor so at odds with the lovely garden. And my sister sitting within it. (ACOWAR, p 351)
These two are peak comfort and peace. Peak hand-on-hand gentleness. Marital bliss.
“The lovely fawn, blooming spring vibrant behind her…”
-ACOWAR
I cannot wait for her to use this on Azriel.
SARAH BRING THEM HOME ALREADY 😫🩷💙

dudes be like..
“I would die for you.”
“I would kill for you.”
okay, well..
i would be kind for you.
i would reject the impulses to indulge in my violent nature for you.
i would wake up and get out of bed an hour early every morning to make tea and breakfast for you.
i would be there for you no matter what.
i would leave the light on for you until you felt safe, and i would hold you so tight until you felt at peace.
sure, i can be strong if i have to.
i can fight if it’s truly necessary.
but when i think about the way that i could love you, it does not make me feel violent.
it makes me feel quiet and gentle and calm.
when i look at you, i know that i am not a violent dog and i will not bite.

"Elain is so boring, SJM doesn't even like her" (Pt. 2)
I just know Elain and Azriel would be the best at hosting Solstice.
Azriel decorating the townhouse and Elain baking and cooking since dawn with the help of the twins. Both of them sitting in the living room, Azriel’s arm around Elain’s shoulder as they sip their glasses of wine while waiting for everyone to arrive, basking in the shared sense of accomplishment.
They pretend not to notice the IC pawning hosting off to them year after year.
this is actually facts because i think (correct me if im wrong) azriel was the one to fix the shitty decorations feyre and cassian put up while drunk
That’s right! I feel like he’d have an eye for it and would be super meticulous about it too 🤭
Time to revisit some iconic Elriel moments. 🩷💙
And I think Elain—Elain would like it, too. Though she’d probably cling to Azriel, just to have some peace and quiet. I smiled at the thought—at how handsome they would be together.
and Elain, noticing Azriel’s ease as proof that things weren’t indeed about to go badly, offered one of her own as well.
Azriel arrived first, no shadows to be seen, my sister a pale, golden mass in his arms. He, too, wore his Illyrian armor, Elain’s golden-brown hair snagging in some of the black scales across his chest and shoulders.
He set her down gently on the foyer carpet, having carried her in through the front door. Elain peered up at his patient, solemn face. Azriel smiled faintly. “Would you like me to show you the garden?” She seemed so small before him, so fragile compared to the scales of his fighting leathers, the breadth of his shoulders. The wings peeking over them. But Elain did not balk from him, did not shy away as she nodded—just once.
It made sense, I supposed, that Azriel alone had listened to her. The male who heard things others could not … Perhaps he, too, had suffered as Elain had before he understood what gift he possessed.
From the shadows near the entrance to the tent, Azriel said, as if in answer to some unspoken debate, “I’m getting her back.” Nesta slid her gaze to the shadowsinger. Azriel’s hazel eyes glowed golden in the shadows.Nesta said, “Then you will die.” Azriel only repeated, rage glazing that stare, “I’m getting her back.”
Rhys lunged for Azriel, taking Elain from him and gently setting my sister down. Azriel rasped, swaying on his feet, “We need Helion to get these chains off her.” Yet Elain didn’t seem to notice them as she rose up on her toes and kissed the shadowsinger’s cheek
The lovely fawn, blooming spring vibrant behind her. Standing before Death, shadows and terrors lurking over his shoulder. Light and dark, the space between their bodies a blend of the two.
But I strode to my seat—nestled between Amren and Mor—in time to see Elain say to Azriel, “Hello.” Az said nothing. No, he just moved toward her. Mor tensed beside me. But Azriel only took Elain’s heavy dish of potatoes from her hands, his voice soft as night as he said, “Sit. I’ll take care of it.”
I found Elain studying it, beautiful in her amethyst-colored gown. I made to move toward her, but someone beat me to it. The shadowsinger was clad in a black jacket and pants similar to Rhysand’s—the fabric immaculately tailored and built to fit his wings. He still wore his Siphons atop either hand, and shadows trailed his footsteps, curling like swirled embers, but there was little sign of the warrior otherwise. Especially as he gently said to my sister, “Happy Solstice.” Elain turned from the snow falling in the darkness beyond and smiled slightly. “I’ve never participated in one of these.”
Elain bit her lip and then smiled sheepishly. “It’s for the headaches everyone always gives you. Since you rub your temples so often.” Silence again. Then Azriel tipped his head back and laughed. I’d never heard such a sound, deep and joyous. Cassian and Rhys joined him, the former grabbing the glass bottle from Azriel’s hand and examining it. “Brilliant,” Cassian said. Elain smiled again, ducking her head. Azriel mastered himself enough to say, “Thank you.” I’d never seen his hazel eyes so bright, the hues of green amid the brown and gray like veins of emerald. “This will be invaluable.”
Azriel and Elain remained in the sitting room, my sister showing him the plans she’d sketched to expand the garden in the back of the town house, using the seeds and tools my family had given her tonight.
“Because of the shit with Elain?” Azriel stilled. “What happened to Elain?” Cassian waved a hand. “A fight with Nesta. Don’t bring it up,” he warned when Azriel’s eyes darkened.
“Eyes can be blinded,” Nesta said. “Not the ones under my command,” Azriel said with soft menace. Nesta met his stare, knowing he was the only one aside from Feyre who could truly understand her hesitation. He’d gone with Feyre into the heart of Hybern’s camp to save Elain—he knew the risk.
Elain just linked her arm through Nesta’s and led her toward the family room, where Azriel stood in the doorway, monitoring them. As if he’d heard Elain’s sharp laugh and wondered what had caused it. “I was just checking on dessert,” Elain explained as they approached the doorway and Azriel. Nesta met the shadowsinger’s stare and he gave her a nod. Then his gaze shifted to Elain, and though it was utterly neutral, something charged went through it. Between them. Elain’s breath caught slightly, and she gave him a shallow nod of greeting before brushing past, leading Nesta into the room.
Shadows darkened his eyes, full of enough pain that she couldn’t stop herself from touching his shoulder. Letting him see that she understood why he stood in the doorway, why he wouldn’t go near the fire. His secret to tell, never hers.
“Azriel told Elain it was a mistake after he almost kissed her.”
His hands tightened slightly on her waist, his thumbs grazing the bottom of her ribcage. It was an effort not to arch into his touch. ..
He dropped her hands as if they were on fire, stepping away, those green eyes flat and dull in a way she hadn’t seen for some time now. Her throat closed up even before he said, “Don’t do that. Don’t—touch me like that.” ..
“I didn’t mean—” She backed away a step, toward the door on the other side of the roof. “I’m sorry,” she repeated. “It was nothing.” ->queen of shadows, ch. 44
She was now lying on her side, her back to him. “About last night,” he said through his teeth.
“It’s fine. It was a mistake.” ->queen of shadows, ch. 49
“Azriel felt entitled to Elain when he questioned the Cauldron.”
“I wanted it to be you,” he breathed, closing his eyes. “For months and months, even in Wendlyn, I wondered why you weren’t my mate instead. It tore me up, wondering it, but I still did.” He opened his eyes, and they burned like green fire. “All this time, I wanted it to be you.” ->kingdom of ash, ch. 41
“Elain said she doesn’t want a male.”
“Good,” she wound up saying, though the idea of her having her emotions so easily identifiable was unsettling. It made lying and pretending almost worthless. “I’m not interested in men … males.” ->heir of fire, ch. 25
i love when antis try and use comments like these against elriel, thinking it was the end of them..
after all, history sure has a way of repeating itself..
aelin and rowan say hello x
Elain Archeron is not boring. She is not dumb or dull. Elain Archeron is an unknowably powerful Seer. Yes, she loves to garden and bake and read. That doesn’t make her boring or less capable. Feyre sacrificed her life for love. Nesta allows her anger and resentment to control her. Elain is compassionate and kind. She wants to be seen as a fully capable woman who is more than a tool to be brought out when it’s convenient. She also doesn’t need to be protected from everything. Her family all only see her one way. Afraid she’ll break at any moment. Azriel dared to ask her what she wanted and what would help. Yes she was catatonic for a long period but it was Azriel simply sitting with her in her garden and talking to her that helped pull her out of the darkness. Everyone else abandoned her but Azriel didn’t. For all the pretty words and performative concerns, no one bothered to actually listen or help. Femininity doesn’t equal weakness. Neither does a fighting spirit mean strength.
