The Sun is the representation in most descriptions of the ‘true creator’, no matter the religion in Thedas.
As we know the maker’s first children were Spirits; made in his own image, so it would be safe to assume the Maker himself is a type of ‘spirit’. This also applies in Elven Mythology. The sun created his first child Elgar’nan, Elgar itself means spirit in elvish, whose body was formed from the blood of the earth.
Now this part is where things get a little interesting. I believe Elgar’nan, also known as the ‘All Father’, is the maker.
Let us begin with a little delve into the Elven mythology.
The Sun eventually fell to rage and bitterness and began to burn the world to ash. The land began to crack and split from the inflicted pain. The earths pools of tears became oceans and cracks became the first streams.
Funny how we can also find reference to this in Andraste 7:19 ‘Those who oppose thee shall know the wrath of heaven. Field and forest shall burn, the seas shall rise and devour them, the wind shall tare nations from the face of the earth, lighting shall rain down from the sky…’
Elgar’nan, furious at what the creator was doing vowed vengeance and became determined to defeat him. It was said they warred for an eternity.
(Mythal and others of pantheon played large part in that war but I will come back to that)
Eventually the Sun grew weak and was thrown from the sky
It was Mythal that taught Elgar’nan that his rage had lead him astray. Mythal convinced Elgar’nan to free the sun and so he was placed in golden city in the sky.
Now this is how the war truly played out.
It is said that Mythal walked out of a sea of ‘the earths tears’. As already started above, that the elves made ‘bodies from the earth’ and also stated, more specifically, that ‘Elgar’nan’s body was made from the blood of the earth.’ I believe that this might be an explanation of how Mythal removed herself from spirit form. Mythal choose a mortal form in order to save the world from the maker’s rage. There is a codex entry that hints that she is the one who taught others to do the same, The rest of the pantheon.
The war that lasted an eternity was waged by the Evanuris, not by Elgar’nan. This battle was against the ‘Maker’ and in so, Elgar’nan himself. This was to keep him from destroying the world.
It’s said Mythal placed her hand upon Elgar’nan’s head and suddenly he became clam and he saw the error of his ways.
This is a method often used by Cole while trying to help others. Cole refers this to ‘making them forget.’ Using this ability Mythal made Elgar’nan believe that he had helped defeat ‘the Sun’, his father.
From here we can take A cryptic message from Cole, were he states, ‘he was their enemy the whole time, but she made him forget, so he could change.’ Further evidence of this can be found in another one of Cole’s messages, as he says; ‘He didn’t kill his father. He was his father.’, Elgar’nan’s father – in elven mythology- was ‘the Sun.’
(I know that these cryptic comments by Cole are taken simply as Easter-eggs but I feel like it is a bit of a clever play on their part, something easily denied and but also plays a part in foreshadowing)
We can also take proof from the constellation representing Elgar’nan- He was depicted as Solium, or ‘the sun’.
In the Constellation Solium – codex text it says ‘All objects in the sky, the sun and moon in particular. Indeed, many believe the proper depiction of Solium is as both.

In elven mythology It states that after the sun defeated Mythal turn him into ‘a pale reflection of the sun’s true glory’, which most elves believe to be the creation of the moon. From here let’s examine codex entry: Mythal: the great protector. In this we find that after Mythal had calmed Elgar’nan’s rage they returned the sun’s body to the sky, were she created a sphere (A foci) to be placed in the sky.
Quick reminder, the maker was returned to a ‘golden city within the sky’.
What Mythal had stripped from Elgar’nan’s body was his ‘god-like’ powers; and the placed this power in a ‘sphere of fire’ (a Foci). Mythal had made Elgar’nan naught but a ‘pale reflection’ of his true self. Interesting, is it not, how the Maker is ‘the Sun’ while this ‘pale reflection of the sun’s true glory’ or ‘the moon’ is who the elves know as Elgar’nan? They are, in fact, two halves to the same coin.
The removal of ones powers is something Mythal has been known to do. She had also stripped Andruil of her strength when she went mad and possibly did the same Falon’Din when he became power hungry.
I would like to point out something said by Corypheus, ‘I have seen the thrown of the gods, and it was empty’; but in elven mythology what had been sealed within the golden city was a Foci, There would be no Maker left behind to be seen… and honestly who would have thought twice about an innocent looking sphere?
