GUESS WHAT
I HAVE SUPER NEAT NEWS!!
WINDSWEPT IS SCHEDULED TO RELEASE JUNE 15!
YOU CAN LITERALLY GO PRE-ORDER THE E-BOOK RIGHT NOW!!
-The Summary-
Alinor is a magical, dangerous place: the shattered shards of the broken world shift around without rhyme or reason—and the monster-infested seas are no exception.
Gale, an honest fisherman with the power to drive the wind, has never been beyond the safe waters of his home. Though he longs for the horizon, he’s happy to stay with the woman he loves.
But when her father refuses to let them marry, Gale proposes a bet: if he can survive a year-long voyage working aboard a trade ship, her father will have to reconsider their union.
Gale is determined to prove his devotion—but he’ll learn there’s more to fear on the shattered seas than just monsters from the water.

100% on my reading list!
... as soon as I get money.
HEY YOU!!
Yeah, you, the writer scrolling through tumblr! I’m talking to you!
I can’t wait to read your future best seller.
Dear Tumblr,
Dear writers of Tumblr, commissioners of Tumblr, anybody who does writing for money, anybody who wants to do writing for money, anybody who has considered paying somebody to write for them -
A few days ago, I received a request for a commission. It was a fairly normal one, as far as mine go, but as we proceeded, it got more and more exciting. Yesterday night, I sent to him an estimate of price. He estimates price based on pages - I said that, going by 500 words a page, 5 pages would be $25 CDN.
His response was concerned, surprised and very nearly outraged. He didn’t say ‘How dare you’, he didn’t say ‘You’re a thief’’ - nothing like that. But he did say that that was very high for somebody with ‘no short stories in his gallery’.
Anybody who follows me well knows several things. All my work is on AO3 and FF, and I’m not shy about that (it’s said publicly on my DA and my commission form). I’ve been writing for years. And I do not, ever, post work I’m hoping to publish on a public forum.
I charge 10$ for 1000 words. Not only is this standard for this particular, hardly-regulated industry, it’s well below minimum wage. Ten dollars, for something that’ll take me between three days and a week to write. This man who was trying to commission me wanted that same amount for $4.
I said no.
Writers of Tumblr, know what your work is worth. There is a problem, a significant, far-reaching problem of us being undercharged, undervalued, treated like our work means nothing and is worth nothing. Don’t let anybody sell you on that. We all need work, and we all need money, but this is wrong and this is unfair.
So what do we do? We say no. We say ‘this is what we charge’ and we don’t cave. Maybe they’ll say fine, and go find somebody else who charges less, but eventually, there will be nobody who charges less. $10 per 1000 is our standard. That’s our minimum wage. Let’s stick to that. Let’s be absolutely, iron-clad clear that we will not accept less. And over time, let’s make it more.
Commissioners and clients of Tumblr. If you are part of the problem, fix it. If you’re not willing to shell out that money for writing, then write it yourself. Admit that what we do is important. Admit that what we do is worth paying for. And to those of you who do - to those of you who are respectful, and who don’t whine and complain about our prices - thank you, from the bottoms of our hearts.
Elliott Dunstan
I don’t commission right now, but I know a few that do. this is for you guys.
Once I get back to writing, I'd definitely do commissions for bundles of poems for a low price.
When you’re out in public and you get a new plot idea…
the sky is grey, rumbling with distant thunder
i can’t wait for the rain to fall
oh dear lightning just struck close enough to shake the house and scared the crap outta my poor dog
i’m so sorry puppy i promise everythings gonna be okay
Whenever a storm approaches I like to imagine a bunch of gremlins marching in a circle and chanting-
Storm! Storm! Storm! Storm! Storm! Storm! Storm! Storm! Storm! Storm! Stor
someone: so what do you do in your free time?
me: i’m a writer.
someone: oh cool, what do you write?
me:
me: I’m writing a novel!
someone: oh cool, what’s it about?
me:
I won't be able to talk about it but I can write the entire plot with a hook and everything in 0.24 seconds
are you a writer who can’t write beginnings or can’t write endings?
i’m a writer who can’t write
I'm a writer who can write both but can't write anything in the middle.
The crazy idea- A writblr co-writing
Like some of you noticed a week ago I got the crazy idea the writers in Tumblr could co-write a story together. It got a stronger response than I imagined. So I thought about how we could do this. Rules: 1. Each post has a minimum of 150 words and a maximum of 500 words. 2. Stay with the genre. It would be annoying to read a genre jump with every post, so please keep it to a minimum. 3. Since we can’t be sure this doesn’t reach minors please keep your posts PG13. So the mentioning of sex is ok but no explicit scenes or too much violence. 4.. The language is English since obvious all of us know it. 5.. You may add one of your Ocs. If you want the other writblrs to use your character leave a short note at the end of the post about typical mannerism and basic appearance if it wasn’t mentioned in your post already. 6. If you intend something with your post leave a note in brackets at the end of the post to inform the writer after you. 7. When you nominate the next writer to continue please make sure it doesn’t end up with the same 5 or 6 writers all the time. 8. You always can leave any time. Leave a note you don’t want to participate anymore at the end of your last post. 9. You have a week to post your addition to the story. I tag all who liked, reblogged or commented on the original post. You have until June 1st 2018 11pm UTC+2 (5pm EDT /2pm PDT) to like, comment or reblog this post and let me know if you want to participate. This also includes those I didn’t tag with this post and like to participate. I will start the story on June 2nd or June 3rd, depending on how fast I can come up with a post. The start will also have tags to everyone who wants to participate. The interesting part about this shall be what happens when multiple writers work together without much planning or consent what to do. It can lead us everywhere.

Writeblr Introduction Post
Um, hello dear writeblrs!
This is Sarah from Germany and she likes to write stuff *timid waving from the distance*
So, I’ve been here as @zwergenmaedchen for a bit but now I’ve decided to make a sideblog dedicated solely to writing (my own, other people’s, and writing advice/resources) because my main blog gets too cluttered in fandom, cute stuff, mental health, and social issues.
I’m writing mainly poetry at the moment but I’m in the process of creating characters for a new wip, which I’ll post more about once it is a bit more concrete.
I write mainly in English but also sometimes in German.
I’d love to get to know more writeblrs and your works, so please like or reblog and of course you can follow me or send me a message :-)
Just letting you know: @thewingwriter @painterofhorizons @artattemptswriting @enasroterfaden @accioinvisibilitycloak
ok but like when did self-sacrifice become synonymous with death? writers seem to have forgotten that people can make personal sacrifices for the greater good without giving their lives. plots about self-sacrifice and selflessness don’t always have to end in death. suffering doesn’t have to be mourning. you can create drama and emotional depth on your show without killing everyone. learn to explore the meaning of living rather than dying
Death. Is. NOT. The. Only. Way. To. Advance. The. Narrative.
Fun things to sacrifice for your loved ones in your free time that don’t include death and actually set up for a whole new season of high level drama:
- humanity (mostly applicable to sci-fi/supernatural genre) - memories (mostly applicable to sci-fi/supernatural genre) - love for that special someone (mostly applicable to sci-fi/supernatural genre) - emotions (mostly applicable to sci-fi/supernatural genre) - rank/position/ - yourself/your brain/your skills (give yourself over to bad guys and become their brainwashed agent so your loved ones live) - years of bloody ruthless traditions to make way for peace (hi lexa and fuck jroth tbh) - freedom (includes that of speech/mind/will) - your grandpa’s fortune - hell even material possessions have that girl sacrifice her goddamn house so they can pay off her gf’s student loans or whatever juST STOP KILLING CHARACTERS TO FURTHER YOUR PLOT
Other things to sacrifice:
- your most sought-after goal
- a strongly-held belief or conviction
- your own chance at happiness
other fun things to sacrifice:
-a finger -an eye -10-20 years of your life -some of your vitality or dexterity -your ability to magically see in the dark -your proficiency in battle axes -your good looks -your memory of the man who killed your wife -everything but your head
You can do all this.. but sacrificing a character's life to further the plot and simultaneously make your readers sob is fun.
Person on the phone: Hello, am I speaking to the head of the household?
Me, handing the phone to my cat: It’s for you
So my cat Lydia likes paper right. If I open my mail on my bed, she’s right there, walking on it, listening to it crinkle under her toes, and then laying right down. Even if I leave paper on the floor, on carpet or tile or hardwood, she’s there, curling up, standing on it, happy as can be. And like many of my fellow fanfiction addicts, I don’t read a lot of print books, but I recently borrowed a novel that sounded a m a z i n g and I wanted to get it back to my coworker on Monday. It was going pretty well Saturday afternoon until
Every time I put this book down, whether open or closed or page up or down, she was there. Happy as can be. And so freaking cute that I didn’t want to move her, which meant I was not going to finish it.
So finally, in protest and so I could actually finish this book, I gave her another one
I finished my book (White is for Witching by Helen Oyeyemi, highly recommend) but I left the decoy out.
She’s been sleeping on it every night. It’s been a week.
This is a wise cat
reblog the book cat
I'll praise this cat for the rest of my life if I have to.
