   Sasuke pokes Kaneko’s forehead with a smile. “I missed you.”

Showing up without warning to his boyfriend's house after a rather grueling hospital stay isn't his idea of the most romantic birthday present out there, but it'll have to do. He's got Haku to thank for helping him get here and keeping it relatively secret from Sasuke. Suigetsu knocks on the door once, twice, and then he waits, and practices in his head what exactly he can say to minimize the shit he's about to be in.

Sasuke isn’t expecting anyone. In fact, he’s getting ready to meet up with Naruto and Sakura for a (hopefully short but realistically-speaking all-day) birthday celebration. He hopes whoever is at the door doesn’t demand too much of his time. Maybe someone got the wrong house again. 

He doesn’t expect Suigetsu. Frankly, Sasuke would have expected the news of his death over seeing him in the flesh. 

Shock-still, Sasuke stares at him. This is a joke, right? Suigetsu isn’t supposed to be here, and he certainly isn’t supposed to look this rough. His posture is a little weird, and Sasuke doubts he is imagining the shadows on Suigetsu’s face. Gosh, he better not be AWOL. That would be such a Suigetsu thing to do.

Sasuke’s hand tightens around the door he is still holding before he takes a deep breath and rubs over his eyes. “What the fuck, Suigetsu.” But, despite the business of his ‘greeting’, Sasuke opens the door fully and walks inside. Suigetsu, of course, is supposed to follow. 

They have much to talk about.

"I don't like that puberty made you taller than me." It's a common complaint from her, one he should be used to by now. "It's just not fair. You were so much cuter when you were small."

“Are you saying I’m no longer cute now?” Sasuke says this with a blank face that soon breaks into a poorly-suppressed smile. As much as Anko may hate his height, Sasuke quite enjoys it. He finds that her jabs are less effective now that she has to look up at him when saying them. (His height is less helpful, however, when he wants to hide from her gaze. He can longer hide behind the couch after doing something that will most definitely set her off.) 

...Maybe Sasuke will buy her heels for her birthday. That should help with the height problem.

There's a lot of waiting going on here, leaving him ample time for boredom, and soon mischief. Suigetsu looks over at Sasuke, then the wall, then back to Sasuke. It's like he's waiting for permission for something, or the reassurance than any unregulated acts of tomfoolery will be forgiven.

Sasuke’s stare is equal parts intense and foreboding. If Suigetsu does what Sasuke thinks he’ll do, chaos is about to ensue, and Sasuke doesn’t like the thought of chaos right now. 

A silent exchange is the only conversation they engage in right then. Whereas Suigetsu’s expression is expectant, Sasuke’s borders the line of threatening. ‘Don’t you dare,’ it seems to say. ‘I’ll make you regret it the moment you do it.’ He may know a lost battle when he sees one, but that doesn’t mean he’ll stop fighting it. He’s too stubborn to do things half-way.

He didn’t expect that. Well, no, that’s not true. Rather, he should say that he didn’t expect her to say so openly what he thinks they both have been feeling around one another. Karin isn’t the only one who likes themselves better when they spend time in each other’s company.

A little stunted, Sasuke looks at her before giving her a small, one-sided smile. He wordlessly extends his arm and pokes her forehead with two of his fingers. “That’s good. I like you, too.”

Like a tarantula, you might not be the biggest beast out there when you are angry, but you sure are one of the most feared. No one wants to mess with you when you are mad! You always keep your cool and wait until it is the right time to strike but when you do, look out! No one stands a chance against you when you are angry.

I will never understand why you have so much self doubt with your writing - its foolish, really. Your writing is AMAZING! I love the imagery you create. I highly respect the devotion you display for each character you have ever taken up. Your world building skills are the best I’ve ever seen. Stop beating yourself up over it, please. ^__^ Or I’ll start doing the actual beating, one of these days. -_-

YOU ARE THE REASON I GOT INTO WRITING SUCH LONG REPLIES!! I can still clearly remember the day I first came across you and your writing. I was fascinated then. I’m fascinated now. Where the Insomaniac inspired my desire to develop crazy plots, you inspired me to always work on ensuring my characters very essence is present in every line I write. I’m still learning that. You’re still inspiring me. You write so BEAUTIFULLY, it always leaves me in awe. Every line is perfection.

Its a piece of art and I’ve often read them multiple times to just appreciate the beauty with you compose them. You and I have been writing partners for years now. She mirrors his smirk for a mere second before the practiced dead pan is back in place. “So…you’re technically here to bring me more work? Typical…” ah this farce was pretty amusing. 

“You know you brought the sake, yes? So I couldn’t have poisoned it this soon.” a pointed look follows the words.

If she wanted him dead, that’d have happened the many times they had ‘encountered’ each other in one of Konoha’s bars. At least this time she’d not have to convince him to pay for the sake. Another smirk breaks free. 

“And why is it almost always Oto?” Deadpan intensifies.

While it is true that Sasuke brought the sake, he wouldn’t put it past her to find a way to poison him regardless. What did Kakashi always say? A ninja always expects the unexpected. Sasuke knows better than to assume their past drinking escapades will save him from the occasional unpleasant surprise. (That’s why he came bearing gifts, to begin with.)

“As I’m no longer affiliated with Oto, I’m not able to answer this question.” It might have been a rhetorical question, but Sasuke still sees it fit to emphasize this point. He holds her gaze with a stare of his own.

“It’s not additional work for you if you put a stop to it now. The longer you wait, the more effort it will take to fix the problem.”

A drawer opens and two sake cups are dug up from within. Slightly worn out, for they have been put to use on multiple nights. This job was not easy for even a single day, after all. 

The sound of the sake being poured fills he silence of the room. Then one of the ceramic cups is being pushed in his direction, as she picks up the other, head tilting to indicate she would prefer if he took a seat. 

“Any particular reason I’m being haunted by an Uchiha?” her lips twitch slightly. Their poor ancestors must be rolling in their graves, she’s certain.

Sasuke follows her invitation and seats himself. He doesn’t yet reach for his cup and instead watches Tsunade as she speaks. 

“None as such,” he tells her. “I figured I should stop by since I was in the area. I hope you don’t mind the distraction.” Yeah, no, the last bit is spoken with a smirk crossing his features. It really is unfortunate that he is keeping her from her work. She seems very busy, after all.

“Though, you should consider sending someone to check near Otogakure’s border. I heard rumors that some rogue shinobi are troubling the villages there.”

Stares at the bottle. 

Stares at him. 

An eyebrow is raised. 

“Oh? Better be good quality, at least.” 

If not, she might chose a very sparkly pink when the time comes. Cough.

“Judge for yourself.” He made sure to pick a good one, knowing fully well that it would be unwise to get on her bad side.
