There are an endless amount of HC's on this blog. The basic idea stays the same but there are head-canons and references that might be unexpected. ➤ Tsunade's mother is a Yamanaka. ➤ Inoichi is Tsunade's second cousin. ➤ Namikaze Minato (whose grandmother was a Yamanaka) is third cousins with Tsunade. Headcanon shared with @minaa-munch. ➤ Tsunade knew kid Kakashi. After Sakumo's death, she'd sometimes bring the brat groceries and was gracious enough to allow him to cook her dinner. Kindness may as well be her middle name. Headcanon shared with @konohagakurekakashi. ➤ Tsunade was temporary sensei of the Inoichi, Shikaku and Choza's gennin team while their sensei was recovering from a bad injury. She led the cell for a month. ➤ Tsunade is not as 'light' as typically considered. During the second shinobi war, she wasn't just creating antidotes to Chiyo's poisons. She was also manipulating the formula to make them deadlier and use them against Suna. Quite a few of the techniques used by the T&I are failed medical technique experiments of hers. She is a kunoichi first and foremost. ➤ She cares deeply for her team-mates. They are all fucked up in their own ways and drift apart but her feelings for them never change. Even after she becomes Godiame, and Orochimaru is considered enemy, does not mean she does not care for the stupid snake and she mourns his 'death' as she mourns Jiraiya, later on. This is why you will see a LOT of sannin content on here. Those three deserved better, damn it!

#Blind Incandescence - Detective AU

Tsunade, a medical student in her final year, abandons her dreams to seek justice for her murdered brother, Senju Nawaki. The title says it all really. Was meant to be a thread. Mutated into a novella. Didn't stop there.... The gist of it is Pein's final resurrection had unintended consequences, bringing back more than it should have. The yondaime has risen again - a return neither he nor Konoha is prepared for.

Her trembling hand forms the ram seal again.

Sharp. Precise. Angry. “Kai.”

Nothing. For the fourth time—

nothing.

Tsunade stares in absolute horror.

Not mild confusion.

Not professional curiosity.

Horror.

At the sunset bleeding across the sky.

A sunset that has no right to exist considering it is barely after noon.

At the waves crashing against a shore that should not be there.

Because they are in Konoha.

In a forest.

A damn forest.

There are trees.

There is moss.

There are training posts twenty feet away and a squirrel frozen on a branch with the same haunted expression Tsunade can feel trying to crawl onto her own face.

There should not be waves.

There should not be seabirds crying overhead.

There should not be golden light spilling over them like the world has decided to become sentimental without first filing the proper paperwork.

Then how?

How?

Her eye twitches.

“What technique even is this?” she asks, equally fascinated and horrified.

Because she had heard of it.

Of course she had heard of it.

Everyone had.

The unexplained phenomenon of Might Gai and Rock Lee being able to manifest the mirage of a sunset through sheer emotional excess and deeply concerning amounts of youth.

She had thought it was a rumor.

A stupid rumor.

The kind of nonsense academy instructors whispered about after their third cup of tea because no sane shinobi wished to admit Konoha had somehow produced two men capable of violating reality through enthusiasm.

And yet.

Here ti was.

The ocean.

The sunset.

The wind catching in Lee’s bowl cut with all the dramatic sincerity of a war memorial.

Tsunade feels something inside her sink.

Not fear.

Worse.

Recognition.

This is real.

This is happening.

This is going into a report.

And no one is going to believe a single word of it.

Her fingers twitch at her side.

She forms the ram seal again because perhaps the fifth time will be the one that restores sanity to the world.

“Kai.”

Nothing.

The waves continue to crash.

The sunset continues to burn.

Rock Lee continues to stand there, eyes shining, fists trembling at his sides as if her telling him he had done well on a mission had personally resurrected his ancestors.

Alone.

He is doing this alone.

No Gai.

No paired technique.

No visible genjutsu anchor.

No chakra pattern she can read cleanly.

No seals.

No summoning array.

No logical explanation.

Just Lee.

Just emotion.

Just the terrible, impossible power of being praised by Senju Tsunade one time.

“This shouldn’t be possible,” she whispers.

The words come out thin.

Offended.

Almost betrayed.

Because chakra has rules.

Reality has rules.

The human body has rules.

Tsunade has spent her entire life cutting those rules open, studying them, mastering them, bending them until they screamed.

And this—

this sparkling, sunset-soaked, ocean-scented nonsense—

has the audacity to ignore all of them.

Lee’s tears catch the impossible light.

“Thank you, Tsunade-sama!”

A wave crashes behind him.

Tsuande closes her eyes.

Slowly.

With dignity.

With restraint.

With the exhausted grace of a woman who has survived war, death, politics, Jiraiya's flirting, Orochimaru's tantrums, Kaksshi's tardiness, the council, and one too many men with dramatic eyebrows.

“Never mind,” she mutters. “I don’t want to know.”

Shizune's eyes were still red from crying. "Lady Tsunade, I need you to be honest with me... What do I mean to you?" (Hiiii~)

Her hand stills just as she is about to raise the sake bottle to her lips.

Bloodshot honey eyes turn toward the voice.

Dan.

She shakes her head.

Blinks.

Her vision finally clears.

No.

Not him.

Never him again.

Shizune.

His niece.

His—

She looks away again.

Hurting.

Bitter.

She raises the bottle to her lips.

Drains it.

Sets it back on the table.

The sound of porcelain meeting wood is soft.

And yet...

Deafening in the silence that has settled around them.

What was Shizune to her?

She does not know.

The world thought Shizune to be her apprentice.

Dan had hoped Tsunade would become a mother figure to his niece.

Tsunade knew better though, didn’t she?

Shizune was a constant reminder of all the ways Tsunade had failed.

A grown woman. Dependent on a child. For survival. For company. For—

“Go back to bed, Shizune,” she whispers, bitterly.

Shizune was the sole reason she was continuing to pretend this meaningless existence still mattered. Pretended hard enough to actually believe it some days.

Kagami laughed fondly, letting one hand fall on her hand gently. "Aw, he doesn't mean it, Tsuna-chan. He has just a pretty rough shell for a quite soft core. Just give him some time~."

"You did not even ask me which friend, Kagami-chan. Meaning he IS a jerk."

She's a very smug chibi all of a sudden.

Operation: Tiny Kunoichi

Hashirama had been ambushed. Not by enemy shinobi, not by political rivals. He had been ambushed by his lovely wife Mito.

"Hashirama, you're in charge of her today." "All day?" "All day. It will be fine."

Hashirama knew it would not be fine. He had to retrieve an old scroll. Not just any scroll, a very important Senju scroll he had stored in the old Senju compound, the one no one used anymore, because it was half-collapsed, drafty, and full of memories he didn't want to face. It was also quite far from Konoha, behind woods and swamps. He knew how much Tsunade hated walks. He tried to take her to the river once and she told him she thought he was a serious person.

He also wanted to visit Tanzaku-gai on his way back. But his best laid plans were ruined by Mito's plan. It wasn't that he didn't like to spend time with Tsunade, he loved her and he spoiled her, but the scroll was important for his next jutsu.

But he couldn't leave Tsunade alone. So he improvised. He crouched in front of Tsunade, grabbed an old cloth, and tied it around her head like a forehead protector. He drew a Konoha symbol on the front. He gave her a paper kunai. He found a tiny west, and dusted it of.

"Tsuna-hime, I have a mission for you, for us. Only you can help me," he looked at her with the seriousness of a Hokage about to brief an elite squad.

"I need a very brave ninja who will accompany me to the old Senju compound and who can keep secrets. And I think you're perfect for that."

Senju Tsunade was three.

She was spoiled.

She was hungry — because her grandfather had forgotten little kunoichi needed to be fed.

Meaning she was not happy with her grandfather at present.

She was also—

too smart for her own good.

As well as very cranky because apparently crankiness was an inheritance she had claimed from Hashirama’s brother. Claimed it as her own. Wore it like armor during early mornings.

Mornings and little Tsunade were not on good terms.

Not that she was ever happy at bedtime.

It only took her three hours of nonstop wailing — loud and painfully sharp — before she finally exhausted herself into sleep each night.

At present, the little blonde looked at the paper kunai in her hand.

Then looked up at her grandfather.

With a deadpan he had only ever seen on his brother’s face before.

Tsunade was imitating Tobirama perfectly.

Too perfectly.

That should have been Hashirama's first warning.

"Ojii-san, I will need an actual kunai if we are leaving the village."

Suit and Tie Tsunade 🌌

My muse Orochimaru stumbles on the diary of Tsunade. It's open, and he sees his own name. What does the page read?

I failed Orochimaru.

Not in the grand, theatrical way fools like Jiraiya would describe it. Not with screaming and shattered earth and some poetic nonsense about fate.

I failed him quietly.

Cruelly.

The way only a friend can.

Nawaki died. And I died somewhere with him. Not completely. No. That would have been kinder. Cleaner. Less inconvenient for everyone unfortunate enough to keep standing near me.

I kept breathing.

Kept walking.

Kept wearing my hitai-ate like it meant something when all I wanted to do was tear the village apart stone by stone and ask which one had taken my brother from me.

But I had no enemy to blame but war.

No face.

No throat to close my hands around.

So I chose Orochimaru.

Because he was there.

Because his words were sharp that night. Acidic. Ugly. Wrong in the way grief makes even brilliant men stupid.

And I knew.

Of course I knew.

I knew the venom in his voice was grief dressed in teeth. I knew he had lost Nawaki too. Not the way I had. Never the way I had. But enough. Enough that something in him had gone still and cold and wrong.

I knew that.

I ignored it anyway.

Because I needed something to hate.

Someone.

And Orochimaru let me.

That is the part that still sits rotten in my chest.

He let me be selfish.

He let me spit blame into his face and did not hand it back. He let me make him responsible for a death that had never belonged to him. He let me turn my grief into a weapon and aim it at him because he knew I had nothing else left in my hands.

He was the better friend.

Damn him for that.

Nawaki’s death was not Orochimaru’s fault.

I knew it then.

I know it now.

I knew I was not the only one who lost someone precious that night.

I knew.

And still.

I let the silence gorw.

Days.

Months.

Years.

A whole lifetime of things I did not say because Senju Tsuande, apparently, can punch through stone, split earth, restart a dying heart, stare down death itself—

but could not look one friend in the eye and say, I am sorry.

Because I am damned to fail in every thing that truly matters.

She knows she shouldn't ask.

She knows the answer will give her a headache.

She knows she will regret this.

But when has she ever listened to reason?

She wouldn't be Tsunade if she saw danger and didn't throw herself directly into its path, now would she?

The meeting room feels suffocating, every breath drawn thick with the staleness of politics and false pleasantries. The drone of voices arguing back and forth pounds against Tsunade’s skull, making her fists tighten beneath the table until her knuckles pale. She’s pushed, she’s pleaded, she’s fought to get them to listen—Gods, how she’s tried. Her plan—her vision to place a medic on every team—could save so many lives. It could’ve saved Nawaki.

But they don’t care. They’re too wrapped up in their own power plays, stuck in their damned traditions, blind to the blood that soaks the very ground they protect.

Her heart clenches as Nawaki’s face flickers in her mind—the blood, the brokenness of his body when they brought him back. His voice, so full of life, of ambition, when he spoke of becoming Hokage, now just a memory she can't outrun. Tsunade swallows hard, fighting the tears that burn behind her eyes, refusing to let them fall here. She can still see him, hear him, and it makes her want to scream. He’s gone, and all she’s left with is the bitter emptiness that gnaws at her insides like a wound that will never heal.

Her voice had been nothing more than background noise to them. The council. The elders. They dismissed her as always. Idealistic. Impractical. They hide behind words like that, cowards shielding themselves from change. They talk of resources, of how the village has always functioned. The word makes her sick—always. How many have died because they cling to what they’ve always known? How many more will follow?

As the meeting draws to a close, her stomach twists with a heavy, familiar disappointment. The elders congratulate themselves with smug nods, patting each other on the back for their so-called wisdom. Tsunade sits frozen, her throat tight, anger and heartbreak twisting into something bitter and volatile inside her. They don’t understand. They never will.

Seventeen. Too young, they say. Too young to hold any real power, too young to see the broader picture.

Bullshit.

She’s about to stand, her defeat swallowing her whole, when a voice cuts through the room—a voice she hadn't expected.

"I agree with Tsunade's proposal." The calm, steady tone belongs to Kato Dan.

The words hang in the air like a lifeline, cutting through the suffocating indifference that has been strangling her all day. Tsunade’s heart stutters in her chest. She stares, wide-eyed, across the room. Dan stands near the back, his tall, composed figure framed by the dim light filtering through the windows. He’s relaxed but commanding, his silver hair catching the faint glow. He speaks with the quiet assurance of someone who knows loss—someone who, in that moment, understands her.

It’s fleeting, his words barely shift the course of the meeting, and the elders, in their typical fashion, brush him off as easily as they did her. But it’s something. His voice was there, offering support when no one else had. Someone listened.

The room empties out, and Tsunade sits for a moment, her mind racing, her pulse thudding loudly in her ears. Kato Dan. She’s heard the name plenty of times, in the hospital, in the halls. The nurses swoon over him, their gossip always filled with whispers of admiration. She never paid attention. Never cared for those kinds of rumors.

But now? Now, he’s the one who stood up for her, who spoke when no one else would. He listened.

Before she can stop herself, she’s on her feet, the adrenaline propelling her forward before her brain catches up. She catches a glimpse of Dan as he exits the hall, his broad shoulders disappearing around the corner. Her heart hammers in her chest, but she pushes through the doubt, her voice breaking through the otherwise empty corridor.

“Wait!” she calls, her voice sharper than she intended.

Dan stops mid-step, turning slowly to face her. For a split second, Tsunade hesitates, suddenly feeling foolish for chasing after him. But then his eyes meet hers, and there’s a softness there, a quiet understanding that draws her closer.

She slows to a stop just a few feet away, breathless, her emotions tangled in a mess she’s trying so desperately to keep contained. Up close, Dan is even more striking—tall, calm, and composed in a way that feels foreign to her right now. The sunlight catches him in just the right way, casting a soft glow that only emphasizes the steadiness in his gaze. Tsunade swallows hard, struggling to find the words.

“I—” Her voice cracks, and she curses herself for it. She forces herself to take a breath, trying again. “I just… I wanted to thank you. For what you said back there.”

He tilts his head slightly, a small, almost amused smile playing at his lips. “I meant every word,” he says, his voice gentle but firm. “Your plan makes sense. It’s practical, even if they don’t want to admit it.”

Her chest tightens at his words, the relief hitting her all at once. He doesn’t just agree—he understands. He gets what she’s trying to do, what she’s fighting for. And for the first time in what feels like forever, Tsunade doesn’t feel so damn alone.

Dan’s gaze lingers on her, soft yet unwavering, as if he can see right through the carefully built walls she’s constructed to protect herself. She’s suddenly hyper-aware of the weight of his eyes, and she realizes she hasn’t had someone look at her like this in... she doesn’t even know how long. Like she’s more than just a voice they can easily ignore.

For a moment, the corridor seems to contract around them, quieting the world outside.

Tsunade clears her throat, looking away briefly to gather her thoughts. She hates feeling this exposed, hates that her guard slipped just from a few kind words. But something in his presence makes it hard to armor herself as she usually would. She tries to play it off, her voice sharper than intended. "Most people think it’s a waste of resources."

"Then they’re not seeing the lives that’ll be saved." His reply is immediate, resolute. He doesn’t blink, doesn’t back down.

Her chest tightens again, a feeling she recognizes but refuses to name—a strange comfort mixed with disbelief. She’s so used to being told her ideas are radical, impractical; hearing her vision affirmed so simply, so earnestly, feels almost surreal.

She lets out a shaky breath, crossing her arms in an attempt to ground herself. “Why?” she asks, her tone laced with suspicion, but it’s not directed at him. Not really. “Why would you care? None of them do.”

Dan’s expression shifts, a flicker of something darker passing through his eyes—a shadow of loss, of something he’s tried to bury but can’t quite let go of. “I lost someone too,” he says quietly, the words barely above a whisper. He doesn’t elaborate, but he doesn’t need to. She recognizes the weight behind them, the invisible scars left by battles that had no victors.

The silence stretches between them, filled with an unspoken understanding that feels both raw and strangely grounding. She doesn’t know him well, hardly at all, but in this moment, Dan feels like the only one who understands what drives her.

When he speaks again, his voice is gentle, almost like he’s speaking to a younger sibling, or to someone he knows is fighting an impossible fight. “You have the right idea, Tsunade. Keep pushing. They’ll come around eventually.”

She wants to scoff, to tell him he’s being too optimistic, that the elders are stubborn beyond measure. But the look in his eyes makes her pause. She’s known her share of hard-headed men, but there’s something different about him—a strength that isn’t about force, but about conviction.

She nods, the words catching in her throat as she tries to keep her composure. “Thank you,” she says, softer this time, with a trace of sincerity that catches even her off guard.

Dan gives her a small nod, his expression softening. “You’re welcome. And for what it’s worth... you’re not alone in this.” With a last, reassuring glance, he steps away, leaving her standing in the dim corridor, his words echoing in her mind.

As his footsteps fade down the hall, Tsunade realizes that something in her has shifted. Just a fraction, just enough to make her feel a spark of hope again.

And she knows she’ll hold onto it, even if no one else stands by her.
