Hiplet is a combination of Ballet and Hip-Hop, and it’s seriously STUNNING. Just watch dancers Camryn Taylor and Nia Lyons show off their truly impressive moves.
Yes Ahed Tamimi is one hell of a strong person but let’s not forget that she’s only a kid.
Let’s not overglorfiy her and forget the fact she’s only 16 and that she has emotions like anyone else and has her weak points.
Sure she’s courageous and has the guts to confront Israelis thugs but stop viewing Palestinian kids as invulnerable kids who were born ready to fight injustice and oppression. They’re still kids and they never asked or wanted to be in the situation they’re in, and Israel is robbing them from their childhood.
AFRICA IS UNDERPOPULATED.
The idea that Africans are starving and dying because it’s overpopulated is simply not true. Looking at the natural resources Africa has to offer, this idea doesn’t even make sense. The fact that people still believe this in 2017 is extremely upsetting.
Africa accounts for 20% of the world’s landmass, yet its population only account for about 16% of the world’s. While Asia accounts for 30% of the world’s land mass, with 60% of the world’s population.
Europe only has 6% landmass, but almost 10% of the world population. Looking at population density, Africa has an estimate of 90 people per square kilometre, against 250 in Asia, and 190 in Europe. If we’re being real, Europe should be considered the most overpopulated.
So, tell me why… Africa is constantly bombarded with people from the West pushing the agenda to stop population growth in Africa… if it’s not to take advantage of Africa’s natural resources? I’m just saying.
I mean… Africa IS the richest continent in the world in terms of natural and mineral resources. Africa outsold every continent out there in this department and has been undefeated since forever. The West has been trying for centuries to get rid of Africans, destroying any and everything, for the sole purpose of taking advantage of its riches.
Let’s not talk about the abundance of fake ass non-profit organizations, the numerous assassinations of presidents funded by the West in order to keep corrupt presidents in power, the continuous looting of the West and debts forced upon Africans.
You know… Some people African countries are still being forced by countries like France to pay colonial taxes? Is that not messed up? But for one dollar a day, eh? But this isn’t just Europeans, the Asians are hopping on this trend as well, subtly but surely.
I don’t want to keep popping up on your dashes, so I’m just going to leave you with this quote from the former president of France, “Without Africa, France will slide down into the rank of a third world.”
This alone says a lot.
This may be a stupid analysis but I’ve noticed that every prophet’s family mentioned in the Quran can be considered a dysfunctional family. I don’t necessarily mean dysfunctional in the worst connotation but they were certainly imperfect. Like how Prophet Yusuf’s (as) brothers through him into a well or how Prophet Musa’s ended up being adopted by the wife of one of the worst men in history.
Surely there’s wisdoms behind these stories that have been revealed to us. I see all this as a lesson that tells us that our family circumstances are not the end of us. We may come from broken situations or less than functional families but we can still move forward from that and build ourselves. If we take our prophets’ stories as examples of human potential (not that anyone can be as great as our prophets), we can surely believe that despite imperfect family situations we can still be destined for greatness.
I think I might go back to using Tumblr as I need an online outlet of some sort because I can’t handle some poeple anymore.
Will probably keep it mostly studyblr.
Urgh. Enjoy??? (I started making this six months ago so I’m obviously v productive) ✩✫✬✭✯✮✶✷
i have a question for you: what’s one (1) thing you dislike about pride and prejudice (2005)?
It ends…
that’s a very good point! but the correct answer is actually this:
I learned in a Latin Studies class (with a chill white dude professor) that when the Europeans first saw Aztec cities they were stunned by the grid. The Aztecs had city planning and that there was no rational lay out to European cities at the time. No organization.
When the Spanish first arrived in Tenochtitlan (now downtown mexico city) they thought they were dreaming. They had arrived from incredibly unsanitary medieval Europe to a city five times the size of that century’s london with a working sewage system, artificial “floating gardens” (chinampas), a grid system, and aqueducts providing fresh water. Which wasn’t even for drinking! Water from the aqueducts was used for washing and bathing- they preferred using nearby mountain springs for drinking. Hygiene was a huge part if their culture, most people bathed twice a day while the king bathed at least four times a day. Located on an island in the middle of a lake, they used advanced causeways to allow access to the mainland that could be cut off to let canoes through or to defend the city. The Spanish saw their buildings and towers and thought they were rising out of the water. The city was one of the most advanced societies at the time.
Anyone who thinks that Native Americans were the savages instead of the filthy, disease ridden colonizers who appeared on their land is a damn fool.
They’ve also recently discovered a lost Native American city in Kansas called Etzanoa It rivals the size of Cahokia, which was very large as well.
1,400-Year-Old Chinese Ginkgo Tree Drops Leaves That Drown Buddhist Temple In A Yellow Ocean.
So my dad used to teach human evolution at the University of Minnesota, right? And his favorite thing was discussing Native American cultures and bashing misogyny.
So he’d start off class by going “Raise your hand if you think you know why men hunted and women stayed back in the settlements” and most kids would raise their hands. He’d list off a few various reasons and kids would slowly start participating. Then he’d go “How many of you think it’s because men are stronger” and of course most of the males would raise their hands with a few girls. He’d then proceed to rip apart the patriarchal views they had all been taught. “No,” he’d say, “It’s because if five men went out and three or two came back no one would bat an eye. They’d grieve sure, but society would go on. Now if five women went out and three or two came back you know what would happen? Society would collapse.”
And it was true. For many Native American cultures the only reason women did what they did was because the men couldn’t do it. We are (usually) taught a twisted, self-aggrandizing form of history despite evidence suggesting the complete opposite of it.
This was present in a lot of cultures in the past before white colonization (see: imperialism and genocide)
In Australia the Aborigines believed that women were more powerful than men and closer to gods because of their ability to give birth, and men would make themselves bleed just to be like women when they came of age
In the Philippines many people held practices which celebrated a woman’s first menstruation, encouraged free sexual exploration before marriage for young men and women, and believed women to be spiritual leaders, so that the only way a “man” could be one was to become a woman (transwomen were able and even encouraged to marry, and were identified as women within the community)
Also in the Philippines economic structures defined power, so a man who was poorer than his wife would take her name, and daughters would inherit and become heads of the family if they were the eldest
Westerners love to flout how great they are at women empowerment when it comes to other cultures that treat women badly, but actively try to hide the fact that there are thousands of other cultures who treated women better centuries ago than they do even today
And that’s a fact.
when kosinski wrote “i’m sure there are aspects of my personality buried within me that will surface as soon as i know i am completely loved.”
Our mothers and their mothers before, all had a uniform understanding of womanhood. That is, to be a woman is to suffer. They were not taught the definition. They all arrived to this conclusion, independently of each other.
Thank you Muslim Tumblr for helping create this, it WOULD NOT have been possible without you. You all helped so much with your heartfelt stories and honest suggestions that inspired this journal. THIS IS FOR YOU ✊🏽 💜
I struggled with depression and anxiety after moving to a new country, having no friends, grades dropped and I got rejected from university. At my lowest point, I’d wonder if Allah cared about me or if He even existed. As cliché as it may sound, gratitude is what saved my life. I would write letters to Allah every day, thanking Him for the good things in my life. Even on the days where living was a struggle, I stuck to it. I gradually became more positive and motivated. Fast forward to today, I’m praying daily and doing all that I can to stay strong as a Muslim. Alhamdulillah.
Muslim mental health is hugely overlooked in our communities and it’s frustrating for all of us. No, you are not just overreacting or needing to “pray more” because you have a mental health condition. No, you are not hated by Allah and no, you are not alone. The mosque isn’t always a safe space for everyone and not all parents are educated on how they are impacting their children’s mental health. I have spent exactly a year after graduating university until now, working daily to create The Journal for Muslims. I believe it will help Muslims of all backgrounds build a positive daily routine around their Islam and be closer to Allah, as well as increasing productivity in school or work. I’ve already been using it myself and it freaking works!
Please don’t ever think you are “too far gone” or that “it’s too late” to have a healthy relationship with Allah. It’s NEVER too late. Allah is waiting for you. PLEASE BOOST THIS POST and let’s change the narrative around Muslim mental health! CLICK HERE TO GET A COPY OF THE JOURNAL.

serious talk but i grew up thinking that its easy to be kind, its easy to be soft, that it was supposed to be effortless to do the right thing but thats a total lie. being kind, being soft, being gentle and being a good person is the hardest thing you’ll ever have to do.
it will exhaust you. it will drain you. you will have to learn and make mistakes and fuck up repeatedly. its not effortless. it takes everything you have inside you and then some more.
but its worth it. nothing in life is more important than learning to be kind and good.
