Foster Dad Robby
Guys, this isn't a joke, I need Robby to foster Baby Jane Doe instead of going on that death wish sabbatical.
We've had so many hints thrown at us throughout both seasons of Robby wanting to be a dad. Every time he saw a baby, he automatically added himself to the conversation and found a way to hold the baby or talk to them. [I need the editors out there to compile all those scenes]
We saw it with Jake too, how Robby was a father figure to him, no hesitation, despite not being together with his mom anymore.
And I've heard the argument that 'if Robby can't take care of himself, how can he take care of a baby' and 'a baby will just give him more stress'.
Robby has no life outside of that hospital. He's said it himself, Robby is distracted in there, because outside of it, he's probably alone. With a 'sick bachelor pad', but alone. Robby needs something in his life outside of the hospital.
Samira questioned whether Robby's 'story' was true [wanting a wife, kids, a pond] or just to make a point, and Robby didn't confirm or deny, but I think that was more to avoid the vulnerability of it all. Because Robby has been more and more honest as the episodes progressed, spewing things he kept close to his chest [like telling Dana that his mom left him]. I think part of Robby has mourned not having the life he wanted outside of the hospital, and thinks he'll never get it now. [Him subtly asking Samira if it's too late]
With depression, if you're given something to take care of, it can sometimes make taking care of yourself easier. Taking care of yourself so that you can take care of them. Like how some people get a pet and the only reason they can get up in the morning is so that they feed them, and due to that, the person takes their meds too if they have them.
Robby has seen so much death, some at his own hands. He needs something that he can help bring life to. Something that can heal him. And that baby girl was abandoned, and Robby can sympathize with that since he was abandoned at age 8. And even if he doesn't adopt her in the end, he'll feel better knowing he made her feel loved and wanted.
