LOKI SEEING SYLVIE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN S2
look at the pure unadulterated LOVE in this manās eyes
SYLKI: Locking eyes again
TOM HIDDLESTON as LOKI LAUFEYSON
SOPHIA DI MARTINO as SYLVIE LAUFEYDOTTIR
LOKI SEASON 2 (2023)
āHer name was Sylvie.ā
Loki told us to our faces that Sylvie is Sylvie. Sheās nothing like him. He sees her as her own person because one, itās what Sylvie has been searching for and demands for but two, sheās proven that nothing about their identities are identical. š¤§
Why She Did ItĀ (And Why Itās A Good Thing)
Sylvie was not distracting Loki.
Antis want to depreciate the romance of this moment by making it out to be some sort of calculated ruse, but it really wasnāt. I have no doubt in my mind that Loki and Sylvie are stronger because of what happened, and Iāll tell you why.
I donāt think she decided to send him away until the kiss ended. Because she knows then, after consummating her feelings for him, thereās no greater threat to her mission than Loki.
Sheās at an impasseā if he stayed, thereās a chance she could have to hurt him to get to Kang, but also, thereās a chance he could talk her out of it. And she doesnāt want either option.Ā
Sylvieās so fueled by vengeance and pain and rage that she canāt see the bigger picture. She just wants the gratification of killing the person responsible for all of her pain, even as the man she loves is telling her to stop, that sheās not alone, that sheās not this person.
Loki knows her. Heās seen who she is, truly. Theyāve bonded on a level no one ever has. He was able to calm her storm with just a few words. So, for Sylvie, it was either stand down, or harm him. She couldnāt do either.Ā
So she picked a third option. He needed to leave, in her mind, because her whole lifeās mission was in jeopardy.
Sylvie only decided to send Loki away as a last resort.
He wouldnāt stop her in combat, he would stop her by reminding her of the consequences of her actions, of whatās right, not whatās immediately gratifying. Loki represents the voice of reason, but she wants revenge, and sheās totally blinded by it. In her fury, she even starts doubting his intentions.
Loki made the comment: āYou canāt trust, and I canāt be trusted.ā We know the latter half to be untrue, that he can be trusted. thatĀ heās changed because of his time at the TVA, because of his time with her.
But she hasnāt changed.Ā Not entirely. As soon as he asks her to stop and consider Kangās gambit, she immediately accuses him of conning her, even when Loki is being extremely heartfelt and levelheaded.
Why does this matter? Because it proves how alike they are, and if Loki can change, so can Sylvie.
She says āIām not you.ā and I think she means that she doesnāt see herself as worthy of redemption. She isnāt in the frame of mind that he is, and why should she be?
Our Loki has seen his own death, and all his other failures. That shocked him out of continuing down his path. Heās a changed man.
Sylvie didnāt get that opportunity, so sheās essentially a 2012 Battle of NY!Loki that sees her glorious purpose right there in front of her (killing Kang), and being conflicted as itās threatened by another glorious purpose (being with Loki).
She makes a mistake. Sheās a Loki. Itās in her nature to be like this, because even Our Loki grew into a murderous despot after finding out he was adopted. Heās made many mistakes. Heās betrayed so many people in his own right. But, and this is important, he only betrayed one person out of love. He betrayed Thanos to save his brother.
Sylvie did it out of love, too.Ā She sent him away, ābetrayingā him, because she had no other choice in her mind. She would not harm him, and she would not give up her mission.
We saw that she was even willing to demand that he kill her, putting his blade to her throat, just so she didnāt have to do the same to him.
That in itself is progress on the road to selflessness, and proof that Loki has changed her for the better, just not all the way yet.
And as for Loki, I think heās heartbroken at first. Until he has this same realization, that this is just who she is at this moment. He realizes he canāt fault her for that, because heās the same. Or at least, he was.
Think of them like the same person, except one is from ten years into the future. One has so much more insight than the other, and theyāre trying to help, but the āyoungerā of the two canāt fully grasp the wisdom theyāre being offered. Their experiences are fundamentally different. Theyāre bound to make the same mistakes theĀ āolderā one did. Loki understands this then, albeit painfully.
And what does he do? He immediately scours the TVA to find a way back to her. He saysĀ āWeāve made a terrible mistake. We freed the Timeline.ā Not āSheā.Ā
Heās already forgiven her, because he loves her.
And she loves him.Ā Sylvie lets him know that by kissing him goodbye.
She lets herself have one moment of happiness, of belonging, then sends him away so that she doesnāt have to make an impossible choice, and he doesnāt have to see her fall from grace.
And when itās over and done with, she doesnāt celebrate. She weeps, because it doesnāt make a difference. Itās a hollow victory.Ā
I think in that moment, after she kills Kang, sheās having that realization of the futility of her mission, just like Loki did. That he was right all along. Sheās once again a scared child, shivering in the cold (as Mobius once put it).
But now, sheās on a better path. She needs Loki more than ever. And heās going to stop at nothing to reunite with her.
this is awesome
Hang on a moment. Letās just talk about it.
Well, how about we finish what we started and kill him?
I'm gonna leave these pics here after the 6th Episode š
LOKI 1.06 ā āFor All Time. Always.ā
I like how Sylvie inspired Loki to overcome his issues, stop repressing his tender side and do better. She did not "fix" him but she accepted him for who he is, did not see him as some irredeemable monster, did not reduce him to his flaws. Loki fell for Sylvie because he saw a heroic warrior in her - someone who shares his soul and he refused to reduce her to their shared role, so, he accepted their respective uniqueness and ability to be more than whatever Kang's regime dictated them to be.

loki (2021): a summary
I love this line: "Are you trying to enchant me? It won't work." I mean, Loki, honey, it actually worked, but in a different way š
I once saw a youtube comment that said āshe couldnāt enchant his mind but she enchanted his heartā and I was like š„²
Life goal: find a person who will look at you like Loki looks at Sylvie š
They found love
Tom Hiddleston as a president of the Sylki Nation:
(Tom Hiddleston predicted Lokiās future love interest in 2011.)
Okay, but can you imagine just how severe Sylvie'a PTSD has to be? She was forced to be on the run and constantly fight for her life EVER SINCE SHE WAS A KID. Not even a teenager. She has only been in THE WORST PLACES imaginable for almost entirety of her life. All alone... without any friends, the loved ones, someone she could trust or belong with...
Well... up until she met Loki.
SO, HE BETTER TREAT HER RIGHT!
