Please please please, let me know how you would change it. Also you great. And now for my opinion. (They did the little mermaid dirty! But despite all it's fault I do kind of like Meledy.)
There has been bad blood between the merpeople and the humans that King Triton had forbidden any contact with the human world to the point that Humans had forgotten about them saying mermaids are just mad sailor stories. But once Ariel fell in love with Prince Eric King Triton just totally flipped, lifting the band and their marriage, acting like a peace treaty between the two kingdoms.
( Important note: no one in the kingdom knows that Ariel is a mermaid only a small handful of Eric's staff. All the kingdom knows is Ariel is a Princess from a distant kingdom)
Melody birth is supposed to re enforce the alliances because she represents both kingdoms. So when Ursula's sister Morgana ruins the ceremony introducing melody to the underwater kingdom. Instead of Morgana acting alone she starts an uprising against King Triton revealing several guards and merpeople aren't on board to forgive all the damage the humans have caused. As she attempts to assassinate baby Melody to shift the power and take over the throne of atlantis.
( Important note: Morgana isn't as powerful with magic like her sister but she is smarter so by causing an uprising to turn the merpeople against Triton cares more about the well being of his family over his kingdom)
Fortunately the assaination attempt failed and the rebellion disappeared. But not knowing who is loyal to Triton's reign and that there are several merfoke who want to see Melody dead, Ariel has no choice but to keep Melody away from the water and Ariel's other life.
(Note: in the movie they outlawed the whole kingdom from the sea whitch is stupid because there kingdome thrives off the water. So instead only Melody is forbidden to go out into the water)
So 12yrs pass the rebellion is still growing. Melody watches from her balcony as her parents and everyone else in the kingdom can go out to sea not understanding why she can't join. Ariel goes out to see Eric as a diplomat as she tries to keep a “secret war” from unfolding with the assistance from Sebastian to pass along messages from Ariel to Triton and occasional updates about Melody.
( Ariel and Melody have a strained relationship. Ariel has a hard time connecting with melody because there's so much she can't tell her about her life and on top of that she's busy trying to prevent a war between both kingdoms. So melody has a closer relationship with her dad occasionally sneaking her out to the reef with Sebastian tagging along )
I would also expand on Melody not feeling she fits in her kingdom and how people think she's odd for talking to crabes not knowing she can actually talk to sea life. When Melody finds the locket and uncovers that merpeople exist Ariel and Melody fight and when Melody finds out her dad knew and keeping this from her the only person she felt close to she runs off. Not knowing the danger she's putting herself or the kingdom by leaving.
Even with Morgansa growing army she’s still not strong enough to go up against Triton but when she runs into Melody who she tricks into stealing the triton promising she could turn Melody into a full mermaid. AS we see Melody Travel to Atlantis we see her feel more comfortable as a mermaid then she was as a human.
When Sebastian Informs Ariel Melody has run off Ariel realizes she's doing the exact thing her father did to her by keeping Melody way from the water. Eric travels by boat in search for melody while Ariel goes back to the ocean to inform her father hoping they find Melody before Morgana does.
I want there to be a small moment between Melody and triton But triton not realising that its melody because the last time he saw her was when she was a baby.
Right before Melody is about to give Morgana Ariel tries to talk her out of it but melody doesn't want to hear any of it.
Melody:” I finally found someone who actually listens to me, no one here thinks i weird, and im not going back to being alone in that castel.”
Ariel: “Your right im sorry i didnt listen to you, I was trying to keep you safe from her but i went the wrong way about it. Just come back with us and ill explain everything.
Melody: shes not dangerous she helped me.”
Then melody hands over the triton and Morgana reveals her true attention but once the rebellion sees they were only using them and she wasn't going to fulfill her promise of equality for the merpeople they turn against her. And Melody is able to return the triton to her grandfather before getting knocked out.
Melody apologies to her Grandfather who gives her a big hug and is just happy his granddaughter is ok.
And some how Melody does what she was born to do and brings together both kingdoms
