It was a full moon’s night, many many years ago. A young couple was expecting to have their firstborn any time now. A boy, hopefully, as he would grow to be strong and able to take care of his parents when they were older. As the woman laid there, screaming in agony, the man told her to push. And with every breath she’d take, the pain would get worse. “Push!” he yelled. “Push!!” She let out a scream so loud it could be heard by everyone in the nearest village. And there it was… A baby, so small, so gentle, but it didn’t cry. What could possibly be wrong with it? The father stood over the baby and his eyes widened. The mother asked to see her child, but the father refused. “This is not our baby, what have we done so wrong? Have we angered you, Lord?” The baby, which had both male and female parts, was a clear message from God. They had failed him and were being punished. The father took the child and traveled to the nearest cliff, by the sea. As he looked down at it, he noticed the baby had eyes as bright as emeralds. There was something wrong with it, this was the right choice. And as he threw the baby in, he heard a soft laugh and then it was silent. The man went straight to the church. Hoping and praying the Lord would forgive him. The baby had been floating for a few minutes before the sirens noticed its soft laugh. They were hesitant at first, how could a human, so young, fall to the ocean and live? Lea, the oldest of the siren sisters, took the child in her arms. Their eyes met and she was startled. A human child, which had eyes so bright and could only laugh and smile. To be thrown in the sea by their own father. Humans must be one of the cruelest species she had ever heard of. And as a mother of 7 herself, her heart broke. She cried and her sisters cried with her. Showering the baby in siren tears. Siren tears were rumored to give anyone the ability to breathe under water. And that’s when all of them disappeared, to the deepest part of the ocean. Tarteria, where Lilin would be raised as one of the sirens, was a kingdom ruled by Lea and her eldest son. Which made Lilin princess of the Tarterians. She would grow to have fins and hair in the same color as her eyes. As she grew older, she’d learn so much about the world and its endless places. Her mother talked about humans a lot and when she turned 17 years old, she found out why. Her mother had told her the story of how she was found and rescued. She had parents in the human world. She grew to resent them, not only her parents but all humans. She hated them. And on her 18th birthday she decided she was going to find her real parents and take away any happiness they had. She left Tarteria and as she had two legs and two feet, she would be able to walk on land. But something was off. As she emerged from the sea, her skin turned greenish, she felt a sharp pain in her side and then everything went dark.
