When establishing Shangri-La in 2018 it was our goal to create a special place for our tenants. So we put a lot of thinking, planning and love into this project, hoping that our tenants will enjoy their stay.Â
Our motto is We are not just looking for tenants, we are looking for friends, so we are trying not only to offer a place to stay, but also to help, support and provide fun tips to make the time in Shangri-La perfect.
With Shanna, Reuben and Akiva we found the perfect first tenants (do you realise their names are even to be found inside the name of our place Shangri-La - what a perfect coincidence!! And look what little Akiva is wearing - a perfect fit, isn’t it?!
Below you can read what they have to say about their time in Shangri-La (Thank you so much for those kind words, Shanna, Reuben & Akiva!)
Shangri-La Munich will always have a special place in our hearts—and not just because it was our son Akiva’s first home!Â
The second reason to love Shangri-La is the place itself.  It is abundantly stocked—we had everything we could possibly need for a plentiful day-to-day existence. Its clean and elegant style gave us the feeling of tranquility. And it should go without saying that it is a real treasure to have your own private garden smack dab in the middle of the city. It’s a house that really feels like a home.Â
The last reason to love Shangri-La is its owners!  Daniela and Emre are exceptional in their joyfulness and generosity. And they genuinely care about the well-being of both their space and their tenants—very rare virtues in the rental world!Â
We consider ourselves so fortune to have found Shangi-La and thus to have gotten the chance to know them.Â
Not enough or bad sleep makes you fat, stupid, sad, sick and intolerable. We do not want such tenants:) We want fit, clever, happy, healthy and lovely ones. So we try to make sure you sleep very well and picked a very comfy mattress.
In Shangri-La you will sleep on a 140 cm x 200 cm mattress called “Bodyguard”. It  is suitable for all bodies and sleeping positions as it can be “adjusted” to individual needs. Its two sides gives you the choice between different firmness  - all you need to do is flip it. And with the additional topper we have added you now even have the choice between 4 different firmnesses.Â
The mattrass did win many awards -  just in  October 2018  Stiftung Warentest did run another test and  BODYGUARD® once again came at the top.
The fridge is empty, stores are closed, it’s  too late to cook or you are too lazy ... or maybe you just want to get out and treat yourself to something special.

For our living room we are going with a mix of “natural green paradise” and scandinavian style white simplicity: Opulence meets Minimalism.
While the sofa still has to be delivered, and the dining table and benches still are being hand made, we at least managed to buy the chair:)
And I have to tell you - I really love it!! Â And the girls at Hay Munich really have been nice helping us to decide <3
This pretty white chair is from the J77 series of Folke PĂĄlsson.
It has a nice wide seat and curved spindle back, so you can sit very comfortable. The lightly conical legs create extra stability. Hay’s version is made of solid beech with a white lacquers.Â
Dear tenant, if you do not like it - no problem - I want one too, I will take it for my own home:)
Shagri-La Munich offers you the best of 2 worlds. You are very close to the Isar so you fully can enjoy the nature. At the same time you are close to the city center to enjoy the urban living at it’s best.Â
So once you are done planting flowers in the garden, feeding the birds and squirrel, going for a run along the river and watching the swans at the near by lake, dress up and visit downtown for a stroll along the pedestrian zone, shop till you drop and relax at cool bars and restaurants. Best place to start would be Marienplatz - the center of the town.
What do you think: How long will it take for you to get to the city center Marienplatz? Well, lets do a small race!Â
Let’s see how long it will take you getting from Shangri-La to Marienplatz -  door-to-door - using different options: Car, bike, public transport and your own feet.
Our initial thought was that the clear winner will be by car....
Well it is actually a tie :-)
Based on the google maps results actually the fastest way to get to the city center at any time of the day will be by riding your bicycle in 14 Minutes.Â
Depending on the traffic you could get there by car also in 14 Minutes, but due to traffic most likely it will be longer (up to 22 Minutes).Â
Maybe this is also a good point to mention we are both bicycle enthusiast and switched to car sharing 5 years ago by selling our car (and never looked back). We also are planning to provide a bicycle for our tenant so no excuse not to enjoy the great biking lanes available all across Munich.
Here comes the official listing:
By Bicycle - 14 Minutes
By Car - Depending on traffic between 14 and 22 Minutes
By Subway/Bus - Depending on what option you take (underground v.s. bus) between 16 and 23 Minutes
On Foot - 37 Minutes
Busy days, lots of work - you can’t wait to finally come home....Â
Put the key in the door, one turn, enter your place and .... Relax!
Once you open the door to your Shangri-La, you can leave the world behind.Â
Our entrance room offers you a shoe cabinet, so you can step inside your comfortable slippers (I personally like to go barefoot in summer and use thick socks in winter indoors), a nice set hangers for your cloth and some colourful pictures to make you smile and uplift your mood in a second. Â Be Welcome - Feel at Home.
The sleeping room is the room to recharge your batteries, relax and enjoy cosy hours. We spend most of our lives in the bedroom. So it is important that we feel completely at home there.
To help you unwind from your busy day and enjoy a good night’s sleep with sweet dreams we did pick calm, clean colors and a comfortable mattress which offers different degrees of hardness. With plenty of storage room to hold your stuff you will be able to find inner peace and calm.
We provide you with:
Minimalistic white bed - 1.40 m  with 6 drawers underneathÂ
Big blanket (200x200), two 80x80 pillows and two 40x80 pillows so you can snuggle in
2 sets of white bed linen, and a cosy blanketÂ
A closet with a rod and several shelfs, plus additional shelf space with pretty baskets
1 big chest of drawers
Lamps, beautiful decorations in white/grey/bluish colors with some red accents - we are working on the details.
The sleeping room has laminated flooring, electronic shutters and provides you direct access to your private garden.
My husband and I recently did buy an apartment in Munich, which we are renting out fully furnished starting 1st of May 2018.
Now, why would you do something like this? Why not better spend the money on travel, food and other nice things? Especially now that the prices for real-estate are going through the roof.
Well, actually we are trying to “hedge” against the future.
One day we may need to move out of our current home, which we are just renting. We have been living here for quite a while and do still pay affordable rent, but once we have to go back to the  Munich’s wild-wild west rental market, we for sure will be out-priced. So it is a big comfort to know there is this cute little apartment close to where we are living, we always can go to.
Additionally my Mum is not getting any younger ( as all of us). Currently she lives all by herself in a big house at the country side. I have to admit, I want her to move closer to me, so I can spend more time with her and support her.
The search for a suitable place has not been easy, but we did find something we really love - a 2 room apartment with it’s own garden close to the Isar. Just perfect!!
So we made the jump, pulled our money, took a credit, bought the place and now are renovation it (new flooring, new kitchen, new white doors and windows). We will be leasing it out fully furnished starting 1. May 2018 for 6-24 month.
