The sun had just come out here at Craiova’s city center. From the whites and grays of winter, color appears one by one. Although one of Romania’s lesser known cities, Craiova’s people are proud of their rich heritage without falling behind in being a city in the 21st century. It has everything a city has but in smaller scale giving it the small town charm without the bore.

Terracotta Warriors, Xi’An By: Sophia

Built in the Qin Dynasty, these warriors were made to guard the tomb of the emperor. Various artisans from all over the kingdom were recruited, resulting in the unique face of each warrior. The intricate design includes the mausoleum, different ranking officers and soldiers, chariots, figures made of copper, jewelry made of gold among others. The three pits held soldiers originally in color using azurite, malachite, ochre and cinnabar; the weapons discovered to have made use of chrome-plating technology.

At the foot of the mountain, Zhoukoudian Park holds numerous archaeological sites where the Peking Man, Homo erectus, was first found. Animals that coexisted with them were found in the surrounding area as well. The discovered remains can be found in the nearby museum.

798 exhibits many local and international artists, not limiting visitors to witness just one culture. Personally, that’s what I enjoyed about it: as an art district: it does not restrict what art is and what it is not. Fascinating, humorous, and occasionally disturbing-- anything but boring.
