rayne and emily | @ghostofaformerself​

    NOTHING IS THE SAME. it hasn’t been since the case and the inquiry. the fact that she wasn’t fired, transferred, or pushed into leaving of her own volition is nothing short of a miracle. unpaid suspension for two months, a year of desk duty & strictly consultations, and mandatory bi-weekly sessions with a department psychologist for two years are pretty tame compared to what rayne had expected. though, the therapy sessions were entirely torturous for someone who doesn’t open up about her life. she’s just glad they’re over.     rayne hasn’t felt the same, though. there’s this part of her that doesn’t feel the same about her place in the bureau anymore. ever since she killed him it’s like she’s lost. like she has no direction. so much of her life and her career were focused on finding and killing catching him, and now rayne feels like she doesn’t have a goal. she’s just going through the motions now because it’s all she knows.

    consults, paperwork, more lectures over the last five years than she’s ever done in her entire tenture with the fbi—she’s been colouring in the lines more often than not because she doesn’t know what else to do, and can’t bring herself to leave the fbi ( or give anyone a reason to fire her ) because she doesn’t know what she’ll do without this place that’s become her whole life.

    when she hears from emily, that’s something else all together. the inquiry is the last time she saw any of them, though it’s not like she hasn’t kept in touch with a few of them here and there, but the last thing she expects is to find emily at her door.

    ❝did you take a wrong turn at albuquerque?❞ it’s said with a faint ghost of a smile on her lips as rayne steps aside to give emily room to step inside. ❝coffee?❞ she offers while closing the door.

     Five years have passed since the case that had shaken the BAU unit, and much has changed since then. Old faces leaving, a wave of new faces in, it had all seemed so fast; too fast. Perhaps the most notable switch is the appointment of Emily Prentiss as BAU unit chief after Hotch stepped down. She’s been in the role long enough now to come to terms with the compulsory responsibility and leadership that had been placed on Hotch’s shoulders for so long.

     With her position comes the power to recruit and assemble members to her team, and there’s a certain former teammate she could really use on the current case. That’s why she now finds herself standing outside the door of a person she hasn’t properly spoken to in years. Emily’s come with a proposal, one which she can see going either way in terms of response.

     In a way, Emily vaguely relates to Rayne. She, too, at one point, had been the outsider who hadn’t gone down too favourably and had stepped away thinking that was what the team needed most. Hotch had given her the second chance, and she’d found a real home with the BAU. This is an offer she wishes to extend to Rayne. 

     “I would never say no to a coffee.”

     diana flinched at the mention of ‘blood and gore’. she isn’t entirely sure if he’s describing the truth (and subconsciously confirming her mother’s warnings about her sister’s family and vampires) or if he’s trying to scare her away. which is effective, to her shame.

      “well… i can assure you that these flower arrangements aren’t made with blood and … gore.” she tried to get the focus back to the products they sell in here because the alternative isn’t really appealing. “am i to assume that you aren’t interested in a nice bouquet?”

     He can immediately see why Diana hasn’t dived headfirst into Mikaelson family drama. There’s a sort of timid innocence that resonates off her, a trait that, in other circumstance would be rather admirable, probably wouldn’t last long in the presence of his siblings’ personalities. 

     “As lovely as your bouquets are, darling,” he gives the flowers only the smallest sign of acknowledgement before promptly steering the conversation in his own direction. “I was rather hoping we’d get to talk.” A calculating smirk spreads across his face. “One family member to another.”

     Spoken like a true Mikaelson sibling. Rebekah can't seem to go a decade without one of them threatening to kill one of her love interests; at least Freya is willing to wait to find out if they're indecent before going in for the execution. A little pout, however, there's the faintest hint of appreciation behind the sulk. "I think you've been spending too much time with Nik, I am perfectly capable of inflicting pain."

rayne and hotch | @ghostofaformerself​

    TENSION APPEARS TO FADE from her features slightly when he assures that he doesn’t think she’s lying. rayne is uncertain how fully she believes that if only for the fact that something about his posture and the general way he’s addressing her says there’s something hotch isn’t saying. he knows something she doesn’t.

    ❝what do you want to look closer at?❞ the question comes in an effort to meet him halfway. rayne isn’t certain what he’s looking for, but retelling everything she’s just gone through isn’t going to help. it’ll just be the same thing again.     before he can answer, dark eyes have closed again and rayne takes another breath, fingers tapping away on her knees the same way they had before. her best guess is that he wants to start where she entered the house.

    ❝i made it to the house. it was quiet, pretty dark inside for early evening in the summer, but i just wanted to talk about my day with evan.❞ rayne waits for hotch to tell her what else he’s looking for.

     And there it is, the start of the cracks in her story, cracks he can use to unravel the real truth. “Tell me more about the house. You said it was dark inside?” That one, small added detail is the trigger to set the rest into motion. “If you don’t mind, I’d like to explore that a little more.” 

     He pauses, readying himself just as much as he’s trying to ready Rayne. Poking this particular bear will result in consequences that will change his colleague's life, and even though it has to happen, it doesn’t make the situation any more enjoyable. 

     “Why was it dark? Is there something obscuring the light? Can you see anything clearly? What’s in the room around you?” The questions are asked in a composed, measured manner, but behind his eyes lies unspoken sympathy. “What can you really see, Rayne?”

     “ You  don't  even  have  friends.   You  couldn't  possibly  lead  a  life  outside  of  getting  on  my  nerves. "     her  sculpted  brow  is  raised  as  she  sinks  deeper  into  the  chair.     ” You  kept  track  of  the  seconds  until  my  arrival?   That  qualifies  as  a  stalker.  Just  admit  it  grandpa,   you  actually  like  me. “

     “I don’t have friends? Me? Do you realise who you’re talking to? I could befriend anyone here in a heartbeat, Cammie.” Not that Silas wants to. He will never admit it, but annoying Cam has made his day a lot better. “The same cannot be said for you. You have the charm of a -” he clicks his fingers in an annoying fashion, searching for the right comparison. “Wet dish cloth.”

“It’s nothing big. Just my SIX YEAR OLD’S BIRTHDAY PARTY that YOU ARE MISSING.”

      In a blink he’s changed, a superhero into a farm boy who’s missing a very important birthday. If he’d looked apologetic before, it’s nothing to his look of self-invoked shame that he now wears. It feels weird to be late, it so rarely happens due to the speed in which he can travel. However, sometimes saving your city from a threat can unknowingly clear the mind of other prior engagements. “I’m so sorry, Kara. Have I at least made it in time for the cake and present opening?”

         “our eternity here? i do hope you’re wrong.” just the idea of being locked up here forever and ever was terrible. she didn’t want to feel like the walls were going to close in and suffocate her. she also didn’t want to starve. she should not think of all the bad possibilities because it makes her nervous. apparently, elijah really didn’t feel like discovering the infinite worlds of youth slang. a shame, the expression on his face after she mentioned the word ‘yolo’ was kinda amusing. instead, elijah wanted to indulge in more serious tones which caused katherine to shit slightly. “i figured it’s advantageous to be in your good graces. i also figured that you’re not the type to lead me into an ambush so that you can kill me.” her brows knotted together slightly as she eyed him. “call it foolish but i trust that you’re well-intentioned.”

      Despite the years they’ve spent apart, Elijah finds comfort in the fact that Katherine ( the ultimate survivor ) feels like she can still trust him, especially when it comes to ventures that aren’t risk-free. However, he’s also rather surprised by the fact she wants to ‘be in his good graces’. Elijah’s sure that Katherine knows that he’ll never bring her harm, so there must be other advantageous reasons for her to want to be on his good side. “And I, in return, hope that you are also well intentioned, Katerina. I would like to clarify that this is not a - as the youth would say - ‘you owe me one big time’ situation.” The corners of his mouth twitch slightly at his own, very debatable wit.

        geez, silas should join a drama group with his very obvious gestures and facial expressions. “oh come on, seems like you’re envious that stefan managed to get affection from his female doppelgängers. perhaps it gets even beyond that, perhaps you’re envious that stefan is desired and was involved in physical exchanges.” what were the words nowadays? dick down? bang? shag? “be reassured, he was quite happy in these moments.”

       “and yet, everyone hates you. it’s not hard to see why women choose stefan. no matter how ‘great’ the blueprint is. perhaps your crazy ex with the unpronounceable name did have justified reasons.”

       Silas’ face twisted into a look of pure disgust as the words registered and sunk in. This, Silas privately thought, was what this century would call TMI.

       “Well, that is disgusting,” he shuddered again, still trying to get the mental picture of Katherine and Stefan’s fornication out of his mind. He wasn’t surprised that Stefan was so desired, after all, good looks seemed to get you very far in this century; it was the way in which Katherine spoke from experience that repulsed him. “You really need to get better at reading the room. Seems like tact skipped a few doppelgänger generations.”

               “And when I’m the one with common sense, you know it’s time to check out.” Leah’s beyond over this pattern. Nik will start a petty war, with Elijah and then Rebekah promptly taking his side ( now freya, too, because all their brother needs is a super witch with delusions about a happy family doing his bidding ). “Hence my question: how would you feel about taking a little field trip? Preferably before Nik notices we haven’t tripped over ourselves to fall in line yet.”

       "The opportunity to ruin Nik's day and have some chaotic fun?" He doesn't even have to think twice before answering, the devilish smirk breaking over his face as he acknowledges Leah's idea. "I'm in. Did you have a particular destination in mind?"

        a compliment. sort of. interesting what an emergency situation could trigger, even if she hid the approach of a grin behind the display of her phone. some things are better to text than being said out loud. even if the content of course remained the same. katherine peaked up behind her phone, her eyebrows slightly knotted together “i could say ’yolo’ but i’m sure that’s another phrase that’s better left alone, isn’t it?” of course it is. she isn’t even sure if elijah knows what it means. “i’ll keep in mind that next time, i do not trust your judgment skills.”

       YOLO? Elijah’s brows raised in slight confusion. Unsurprisingly, he’d never heard of this word, nor did he have any desire to learn what such terminology referred to. “I do hope we won’t spend our entirety here learning about trivial phrases that the modern youth have come up with.” Small talk had never been his forte. In fact, he was rather hoping for an in-depth conversation with Katerina that he believed to be long overdue. “Forgive me if this is too forward, but why did you agree to join me on this little escapade?”

               She’ll never spare him the stubbornness. But the moment blood’s drawn, her vision becomes as sharp as the fangs that pop out; in a blur, she’s on the witch’s body. Usually a lot more discreet, she lets herself go and doesn’t stop until there’s not a drop left.

               He was dead anyway – no use crying over spilled milk.

               “Ah, they taste so magical.” Refreshed, Leah straightens up and stretches. “Always nice seeing you, big brother.”

       Her pun causes a fraction of a smile before he goes straight back into responsible mode, an accusatory brow raising. Hands rest on hips, as if he's daring her to challenge him and walk away.

       "I trust that you'll help to clear this mess up before you think about disappearing and starting another pointless physical altercation."
