Hi friends! It’s been a while since I last updated, and I hope you’ve all been well! I know a few of you don’t follow my personal blog, so I wanted to give you a heads up about the new personal project I’m working on: It’s an animated webseries called Bleating Heart, about an anxious little sheep who becomes a powerful werewolf.

I currently have no plans to make more Sharklock installments-- I have lots of ideas, just no plans. Maybe someday! But if you enjoyed Sharklock, I think you might like this show, too! It’s also about anthropomorphic animals and has a pun-based title. I’d appreciate it if you checked it out. :^)

Festival Announcement!! 

Sharklock has been selected to screen at the Akron High Arts Festival! This may be his last silver screen appearance, as the film is reaching the “age limit” for many festival submissions. I’m excited that his final screening will take place in the city I was born in!

When a lighthouse keeper dies under mysterious circumstances, it’s up to famous land-shark detective Sharklock Foams and his otter companion, Doctor Flotsam, to track down the culprit and thwart a much more sinister plot.

The one-year anniversary of Sharklock’s online premier was two days ago!! I can’t believe it’s only been a year!!

Last Thursday (03/22/18), “Sharklock Foams” screened at the 66th annual Columbus International Film and Animation Festival! This is the festival’s first year under its new, animation-inclusive title, and I could not have been more honored to be a part of it. I even got the chance to do a Q&A afterwards!

Animation Students, 

The Columbus Film & Animation Festival is approaching fast! Founded in 1952, the festival is the oldest film festival in the United States. Presented by Columbus College of Art & Design, the festival showcases world-class independent films in central Ohio. This year the festival is Thursday, March 22th - Saturday, March 24th.

Thursday, March 22 1:00pm - 2:45pm, Animated Shorts Kick off the 66th Columbus International Film & Animation Festival with exceptional animations, featuring a famous land-shark detective created by CCAD grad Allie Vanaman, a cantankerous old matchmaker, narcotics addiction in West Virginia, and everything in between.

3:30pm - 5:00pm, Animated Feature: Constant Space Explore the stars with humanity in the distant future in director Emmett Fifield’s Constant Space, tag along as a politician faces a tough decision in Ishan Shukla’s Schirkoa, and find understanding through dance in Brandon Omari Lake’s The Mud.

6:30pm - 7:30pm, Motion Graphics Symposium Motion graphics are everywhere — in advertisements, in cinema, and now at the Columbus International Film & Animation Festival. Join a group of industry leaders and talented creators for a symposium on the state of motion graphics in central Ohio.

8:00pm - 9:00pm, Malt Adult Brew tea, dream of the dead, and think about time in this selection of animations for grown-ups. Curated by Columbus adult animation aficionado and CCAD grad Sarah Schmidt, this edgy collection will feature some of the best work screened at Malt Adult over the past year.

Saturday, March 24 12:30pm - 2:00pm, Saturday Morning Cartoons from Around the World The Columbus International Film & Animation Festival isn’t just for adults. Saturday Morning Cartoons from Around the World — a long-running festival tradition — features family-friendly cartoons. This year, children of all ages can hunt UFOs, sell stars, explore a Singaporean bazaar, and more in this selection of colorful animation. Plus, join us for fun foods in the Canzani Center lobby before and after the cartoons.

Two announcements!!

Sharklock has been selected for its first festival of 2018! It will be screening TWICE at the Tally Shorts Film Festival in Tallahassee, FL, as part of both the Children’s Films block and the Animation block! (This is Sharklock’s second Tallahassee festival and I think it’s a sign I need a Florida vacation...)

Please let me know if you would like me to make other items available, such as mugs/phone cases/tote bags/etc., or if you’d like a particular past design added to the store!

Revisiting my old film files! Due to time constraints, some of the scenes I really liked ended up getting axed during production. One of those cuts was a fairly large sequence in which Sharklock and Morayarty, while fighting, bump into the controls that operate Morayarty’s laser canon and accidentally start it up. Just when it’s about to fire, Flotsam heroically scrambles to reset the controls and shuts the canon down. The purpose of the sequence was to raise the stakes and provide a sense of danger/urgency, but the plot was still cohesive without it, so it was ultimately cut.

Sharklock has been accepted into the World Animation Celebration and will be screened at Sony Pictures Animation next Friday!!

Sick day. Yesterday I tweeted that I wasn’t feeling well and my friends all came to my aid, offering well-wishes, remedies, and comfort food. After some medicine and rest, I was feeling much better. Thank you everyone for checking in on me!
