Glimpses and mentions of Sharon in Captain America v5 #50.
Sharon and Steve in Captain America v5 #50.
A happy ending! I really enjoy older comics because they tend to provide these emotional payoffs for readers.
Also, Sharon wearing a nifty jumpsuit -- she wore a lot of jumpsuits in the period, and always looked pretty cool to me. It would be fun if they tried to make this look work for live-action -- maybe not as a uniform/costume, but a one-off outfit.
Sharon and Nicky Fury examining the bomb that’s connected to the tape on the back of Steve’s neck. Fury has called in Tony Stark to disarm it - Stark is, after all, a weapons expert - but Sharon is a bit fretful nonetheless.
Captain America v1 #104
Silver Age Marvel Comic Book Science!
And a sweet panel of Steve holding Sharon, to complement the one of Sharon holding Steve earlier in the issue.
I’ve always loved the classic Jack Kirby art here.
I just really like that last panel of Sharon holding Steve (meanwhile Red Skull announces his evil plan).
Captain Ameica v1 #104
Sharon inadvertently barging in on Steve as he undresses, lol.
Captain America v1 #104
*cue dramatic sound effect*
This signals a change in the narrative. Sharon has something else to drive her now, and we now have a sense that Steve will be coming back sooner than later...
Captain America v5 #49
Sharon having another memory dream of recent events, this time involving Arnim Zola and Red Skull.
Captain America v5 #49
Peggy talking about Sharon to a mysterious figure, who she thinks is Steve Rogers. It’s actually William Burnside, who has his own history with Sharon that he doesn’t remember.
Captain America v5 #49
Captain America v1 #103: Wherein Cap comes to Sharon’s rescue, but she’s the one who has to make sure they have a getaway vehicle when he gets caught up fighting the bad guy instead.
Red Skull is up to something, but Cap and Sharon don’t know that -- although Sharon knows that need to prioritise getting away, ASAP.
Captain America v1 #103
That was before I knew -- how much you mean to me!”
Captain America v1 #103
Sharon would’ve saved herself earlier, but she knew that she was a pawn in a bigger plan. Actually, Red Skull could have easily captured Steve as well, since he certainly had him incapacitated while the kidnap of Sharon occured. But Skill has figured out that Sharon is someone that Steve cares for, and that hurting her would be much more ‘effective’.
Anyway, they make a great team, as these panels show! The spy & the hero. It’s very clear that the Peggy/Steve dynamic in Captain America: The First Avenger drew heavily from Sharon/Steve of this era.
Captain America v1 #103
"I--I feared you'd come for me, my darling!"
Captain America v1 #103
“And now -- I’ve got to see a man -- about a girl!”
Steve very singularly focused on getting to Sharon in Captain America v1 #103
