The concept confuses me.

Is it a religious or spiritual practice?

I'm aware it's some kind of joke for some people, who take it up as tongue and cheek, but I don't even understand the joke. What is going on?

Very short version because I’m on mobile: Otherkin is identifying as something nonhuman, partially or wholly. That is to say, when I say I’m dragonkin, I mean I am a dragon. Fictionkin, similarly, is identifying as a fictional character and/or species. I’ve got some good posts with a little more detail in my otherkin 101 tag, and I’m more than happy to explain further if you want to ask questions after perusing that a little!

I've been having a hard time really embracing my vampirism, not that I dislike it in any way but in that I've been having a terribly difficult time relieving my dysphoria of being perceived and treated as a human so I was wondering if my fellow vampires might have any tips or advice.

If you're willing to, please reply or reblog with things that help you feel more like yourself.

The few things I have found that help me:

Drinking red wine or absinthe

Wearing prosthetic fangs

Getting dressed up and going for late night walks

Using my typewriter by candlelight (or dim LEDs)
